I lived on the Trinity River east of Cleveland, and we used to catch big crabs, gafftop, and a Redfish or two. Mullet jumped all the time.

Awesome video sir !! 😊 I just traded my 25 Tohatsu for a 40 like yours and am breaking it in at present. My water sampling business on the big Atamaha River in SE GA requires a 100% reliable motor, and i have run Tohatsus exclusively because my life depends on it. Hint: Amsoil is the oil to use as it will last indefinitely with only a filter change every 100 hours. Expensive but oh so so worth the extra $ !!!! Be safe and keep safe ....

Glad you got some footage of that expansion bridge in Liberty. That railroad bridge has been replaced now by something much uglier, but I guess more efficient. I enjoyed the trip.

I used 1-inch-thick Styrofoam boards that I bought from Lowes. Lunds are not fragile. LMAO, if they were they wouldn't be using them in Alaska. Folks told me my riveted boat would leak , that was 20 years ago. It still doesn't leak , I'm on the Gulf coast , it's getting beat on constantly.

Hi Robert, congrats on your completion of passage, I followed along on Facebook. On the 120 hours oil change, I seriously doubt that's a problem since 100 hours is recommended interval. I'm on my 2nd Tohatsu mfs20e and love the engine. Tohatsu states you can run oil filter for 200 hours and oil for 100. I think this should be reverse, filter every 100 and oil at 200. Oil doses not go bad. just needs filtering. Good advise on the cover lanyard, I think I'll do the same. I also have a tach and hour meter, I mounted mine on tiller handle for easy view of rpm. When draining motor oil it's less of a mess if you tilt engine up and lay tiller over to starboard, oil drip clears the lower unit while draining. A note, don't smear oil around on any painted surface while cleaning up, I did this to my first engine and it contaminated my paint and discolored it. Tohatsu has been a leader in outboard engine around the world for decades, the U.S. market is late to the party. I've noticed in last several years Tohatsu has increased its presence in U.S. marketing. Once again thanks for sharing your tips and experiences with us.

I'm sure the 120 hours between changes is probably no problem. I'd check for oil level at 100 hours and if no loss, then press on until the next ability to change :) Thanks for sharing, Sir!

good to know about the bearing buddys

The bearing buddies that I use has a vent hole near the end so you can't overfill it. I prefer the ones you use but my trailer is a 1986. Changed the bearings once. They were worn out from thousands of miles.

That's a lot of gas on a 16' boat ! What's the weight capacity of the boat ?

I have a question about your kickplate. I have the same one on my jon. I'm needing to raise my motor more but I'm out of mounting holes on the motor base to move up. Are the holes under the stainless shafts where the kick plate hinges meant be used as another form of adjustment? Like could I raise up my motor by moving the shafts to the center hole?
