You pronounced not only the authors name incorrectly but almost every name and place in the entire book. Cringe af.

Your Dad’s commentary already has me rolling my eyes 10 minutes in. The women don’t have to be included just because it’s 2023. Saying that Vis isn’t “beta”… spare me.

If you got through Isington's first series (major growth as a writer late in the series... Almost quit the series more than once during the first two books, but was really glad I didn't after I read the third);) you would know that James isington is excellent at planning and landing long-term story arc payoffs.... And the ending of the will of the many is not just going to be a tangent.... But a complex and well thought out story arc with very satisfying payoffs

I love the way James Isington uses troops in this book... Unapologetically.... He makes some of the most used tropes just work... It doesn't take me out of the story at all...

Agree with Sarah about the first person perspective - I’m not always the biggest fan, but I don’t think this story could have been told in any other way. By locking it down to a singular POV you’re never 100% certain of anyone else’s motives and that really ratchets up the sense of stress and paranoia (and exhaustion) that Vis must live with every day. Very effective.

Enjoyed your discussion. The bit where you were discussing 'toll for validity" 'I think has something to do with the blood. Why they've been taking blood samples etc

it's teleportation. If you go with the idea that there's not lightspeed space travel, and that Obiteum, Luceum, Res are planets, the "cloning" could be a way of transportation: the red lit room and the arches are beaming Vis consciousness to a copy of hid body in Luceum, the one left in Solivagus would have probably been destroyed back in the days before the cataclysm. I think the cataclysm has something to do with the paradox of having copies of the same person, something to do with soul/mind/body and consciousness. Remember that were mostly children who survived the cataclysm, probably because they were the only ones who weren't teleporting in that society. They call the cataclysm the rending which means tearing (?) separation mind/soul/body/ consciousness, and that the eyeless human drones were sentenced to guard the passage to Luceum because they attempted "synchronism"... maybe it's the state of merging all of one's copies. Interesting that the "magic" in this series is called Will, from willpower, it's simple, it's what almost every magic systems use: changing circumstances or the matter with your intention, and you can only have willpower because of conscience . This is a lowkey sci-fantasy of the dying earth genre that happens to start the series with the fantasy genre tropes but I bet it will get more and more techbological/sci-fi ish... notice that when Vis describes the ruins and the dome he is constantly talking about "light symbols and light sources that seems either etched on the stones or coming out of it without an obvious source" that sounds really close to a monitor screen, if he stumble upon a LED panel he woul think it was a glass like structure in with light is etched into it... obsidian.

also, the epilogue is called "ex uno, plures" from one, many... it's all about the copies... that's somehow what caused the apocalypse of that advanced society. good thing we banned human cloning. Maybe that's also how that society managed will, instead of pyramids in which the poor ceded to the top, a person would have copies of oneself hooked to their own sapper at home ceding will to their original

Point of note, his first book was self published and it was similarly paced, so I'm not sure how much the the pacing is from the editor.

In an interview, he stated how reading Sanderson's mistborn era 1, was a revelation and inspiration as far as pacing goes... Also.... Self-published doesn't mean no help with editing! The writers I know all... Self-published or not.... Work with others for feedback and editing purposes

I think Vis/Diago might end up on Suus again and help rebuild after the Heirarchy collapses, but he def wouldn't become their king (cause this is not a Prince Caspian story). The best happy ending i can envision for Vis is as an innkeeper or fisherman or something on Suus, just a peaceful normal life alongside someone he loves( could be Emissa or Aequa or someone else entirely depending on what Islington has in mind). 12:00 There might be another possibility if the boat is real:Indol. Indol is the only one who knows for sure that Vis grew up in the palace, and I think we can say he has spent a fair bit of time in the palace, possibly snooping around( it is his father's vacation home, so that would make sense). If he ever hears anything like "The body of the Prince was never found" or something like that, i wouldn't put it past him to put 2 and 2 together. I think the implications would be interesting, especially if Indol is being set up as the next best friend character now that Callidus is dead( especially since Callidus never knew). Indol is supposed to be the "closest thing to a prince the Republic has" and the "perfect Catenan" so the parallel would be interesting. Its a bit far fetched, but 🤷🏾‍♀️

Indol leaving the boat is interesting thought, I could be down with that interpretation. But I agree with Sarah sister, I don't think the dad being alive somehow is an entirely new special thing. I am guessing it has something to do with synchronism somehow but I don't have enough details to hypothesize more than that. I'm definitely not voting on Veridius, that's too simple and Islington is not a simple plot planner.

1:03:49 I agree, it's most likely different dimensions because in the first ruins there were 3 different maps of the same place.

@@spencercorpuz To be fair, the pronunciation guide that Islington gives and is used in the audiobook is also wrong based on latin pronunciations. He's not consistent with his letter phonetics at all.

Have you guys read the bound and broken series? Love the talk 1000% disagree with the wolf take give wolf's, dragon, big cat or do something and go with I don't a turtle or rabbit or pig but I love supernatural pets as helpers!! Love animals! How did you guys not talk about the guy that showed up a page or 2 that clearly has super of speed or had figured out time perfectly like the flash! Says everyone has to give up something that gets touched that gets power. Dieago might have get super speed buy his might be super spider man spiders sense, telepathic ability. Everyone who runs the labyrinth gets there own special ability based on there mind and body. He clearly the evil guy and Terrorist and the Anguis don't even know but there just his little bitches being that think are in control. But there like the dark lord and just using them for his soldiers well he tries to take over with this specials powers.
