While I like all the music they've made.....to this day, I still love *_Oracular Spectacular_* the most. Hands down. A big part of that is timing. I first discovered them via their 2005 6 song Time to Pretend EP. That EP, and Oracular, were THE soundtrack to my 20s. I'm the exact same age as Andrew(by like 3 days) and their music immediately resonated with me. I also love how that album isn't remotely _trying_ to be pop...it's super psychedelic and weird and eclectic. But the songs are SO good and impossibly catchy and well made that it _can't help_ but be pop...indeed, top 40 pop. I think that's cool. My favorite albums tend to be that rare confluence of experimental creative expression...AND hyper catchy hooky perfectly honed pop songwriting. And Oracular is perfect on those counts. Along with Merriweather Post Pavilion, All Hour Cymbals, and KALA, that was such a fertile time for that scene of music. I also remember loving their interviews back then...they clearly loved music and took it seriously, but they were my age, young, hîgh like ALL the time, funny, and just seemed like the cool yet awkward creative weirdo friends I knew.
