Terry's Rifles

I like to tinker with rifles. I also tinker with 1:48, 1:19 and 1:29 live steam locomotives, here: th-cam.com/channels/SuVKG97Jwn580jAGBMyuRQ.html
Victoria B.C.: Modifying the KWC .177 Replica Mauser 712 for Bolt Hold Back (More in description)
This KWC CO2 powered air gun is a very good replica of the real Mauser 712, which was a 1930s full selective fire “machine pistol.”
Out of the box it operates in function and handling almost like the original real thing. Given the price, I was very happy with it as it was. However, my other automatic KWC BB replica handguns hold the bolt open after the magazine is empty, which is one of their best features.
So...
I set about staring at the parts and worked out how to make it hold back and stop firing after the magazine was empty. This is especially important in a gun with selectable fully automatic fire. The only way to know the magazine was empty was to count the shots, or guess, or feel, when it was empty - especially tricky in full auto. This distraction resulted in taking a lot away from the experience and aura and inevitably led to wasted CO2.
My mod does not hold the bolt all the way fully back, nor does it have a catch to keep it there once the spent magazine is removed. But importantly, it STOPS firing and holds open.
My mod also opened a little space in the magazine so I now load 20 BBs (the real gun’s magazine held 20 cartridges). I can get two complete magazine loads out of one CO2 cartridge. This means 40 shots in semi-auto or full-auto without worrying about when the magazine runs out or wasting CO2.
I must note that I can usually get 5-10 more shots out of the CO2 in a third loading. When I try this it usually does not hold the bolt back after the last BB simply because there is no longer enough CO2 to push the bolt back far enough, which is typical of blowback BB or air soft guns.
I’m good with small tools and measurements and am quite experienced at tinkering with mechanical things. If you are tempted to try this make sure you are reasonably skilled as the warranty will be voided.
I’ve continued to test and shoot this gun numerous times since finishing the video and it works well every time!
Cheers

Victoria B.C.: CO2 .177 BB Pistole 08 Luger & Mauser 712 - Great replicas by KWC! (see description)
มุมมอง 1723 ปีที่แล้ว
I will never afford an original Luger P08 or Mauser ‘broom handle’ despite these being very favourite pistols. (Especially not while I enjoy other hobbies too!) While I have experience with real hand guns, these metal replicas provide the experience of seeing how the originals were thought through and put together. They take down just like the originals, weigh within grams of the originals, the...
Victoria, B.C.: BB gun replicas - A cheaper/easier option for those interesting in historic arms
มุมมอง 843 ปีที่แล้ว
My M1911 by KWC is a BB gun replica that feels, operates and field strips just like a real 1911 (minus the powerful cartridges and smell of burnt powder). I’ve had this BB gun for about 6 years. Since then many accurate BB shooting replicas of historic and military side arms have been produced. In fact BB replica historic WWI guns like the British Webley & Scott revolver use metal cartridges wh...
Victoria B.C.: Lakefield Arms .22 Mk II (before Savage bought Lakefield) - see description
มุมมอง 7K4 ปีที่แล้ว
I made this video for my cousin in Alberta, Canada. I admire Savage rifles and I have a few of them. This, however, is the Mark 2 before Savage purchased Lakefield Arms in 1994 (I think it was 1994 - someone correct me if don’t have the right year). Lakefield Arms was/is in Lakefield, Ontario, Canada. The same factory still produces smaller calibre rifles as part of the Savage company. The Mark...
Victoria, B.C.: CHEAP metal gun range target - discarded railway tie plate
มุมมอง 3074 ปีที่แล้ว
This tie plate is the first of four I have rigged up. I saw the first one walking along the old Esquimalt and Nanaimo Railway (defunct) and the idea hit me that it may make a good range target! This one has a bunch of heavy chain. You don't need chain this heavy - I just happened to have it. My others have lighter chain with cheap bolts and washers covering the spike holes. In another of my pos...
Victoria B.C.: 1916 Ross Mk III, 1943 Lee Enfield No. 4 Mk I & 60s Cooey with repaired ejector
มุมมอง 1134 ปีที่แล้ว
These are my first shots with a 1943 Birmingham Small Arms (B.S.A.) Lee Enfield No. 4 Mk I and a Canadian (Quebec) 1916 Ross Mk III - otherwise known as the M-10. This video shows the second time I shot my early 1960s .22 Cooey 750 (made in Canada). The first time was a pain because the ejector seems to have been been bent and twisted at some point and it would feed, but not eject. I repaired i...
Victoria, B.C.: Lee Enfield No.4 Rifle - Accessories - dummy cartridges, stripper clips, bayonets
มุมมอง 3034 ปีที่แล้ว
If you are a fan of military history, and Lee Enfield in particular, you can get accessories for very little cost in Canada and the U.K. Probably in other commonwealth (former British Empire) countries as well. I particularly like the original military dummy practice .303 British cartridges and the WWII 'pig sticker' bayonets are easy to come by and for a collector the sky's the limit on manufa...
Victoria, B.C.: 1916 Canadian Ross Mk III (M-10).303 - Refurbishment and Cycling the Action
มุมมอง 4894 ปีที่แล้ว
The Ross was the Canadian Expeditionary Force's service rifle until 1916 when it was replaced by the British Lee-Enfield SMLE. I took the images and video during Nov 2018 but edited it together and added voice description on 22 Dec 2020.
Victoria B.C.: .22 calibre case smacking iphone 5 rear lens, ejected from Savage 64 rifle
มุมมอง 88411 ปีที่แล้ว
The rear lens is tiny and I hade it looking out through a small opening of a protective barrier, but that casing found its way directly through! Thankfully not so much as a scratch on the ipphone.
Victoria B.C.: Shooting my Antique Model 1894 Winchester 32-40, Gun Made in 1907
มุมมอง 38K11 ปีที่แล้ว
The 32-40 cartridge is rare to come by. That is the only thing I don't like about this rifle, but in a way it is also something that I do like about it because it is a little off the beaten path. Shoots great and the action is smooth. I referred to the cartridge as a 'bullet' twice! My bad.
Victoria B.C.: .22 Savage Arms Model 64 Homemade Wood and Aluminum Pistol Grip Stock
มุมมอง 188K11 ปีที่แล้ว
I love my Savage Arms model 64 .22 auto-loading rifle for target shooting and plinking. I like the robust stock for back-country, but at the range I prefer pistol grip. Not able to find a replacement on the market, I made a new stock from 20 dollars worth of hardware store material. It took six hours of work not including mulling how I would do it beforehand.
