NG1 Jurie van den Berg sailing home in heavy weather
As an American of Dutch descent I find this video a unique and graphic representation of the Dutch people's struggle with the sea. They have pushed it back for farm land, sailed it to become leaders in world commerce and plied the rough waters of the North Sea with their sturdy sea-worthy viskotters. This video was originally posted by jacobuk61 in October, 2006 as "NG 1 Jurie van den Berg uitstomende met slecht weer". The song, "Sailing Home", is by Dutch singer Piet Veerman. The music and lyrics match the movement of the beam trawler and the waves in perfect harmony and conflict just as the Dutch have lived in harmony and conflict with the sea for centuries. This also serves as a poignant tribute to those who have plied the seas for their livelihood and a solemn recognition that not all have returned from the sea. I do not own this song or video and there is no intent to infringe on copyrights or any other legal technicalities.

these Dutch beamers are such seaboats, I'd buy one over a yacht any day, you see them running down weather, they have great rudders, track beautifully

This was a former Urker trawler. I was a fisherman in Urk in the years 1989 tot 1994. Nice Video.!
+Max Caspar Kees Flevoland/Urk Urk has a rich tradition with the sea and with traditional Dutch culture. I have searched and watched numerous videos on both those topics. I'm glad you enjoyed this video. My hope is that it will serve as a poignant tribute to the Dutch as individuals living with the sea and as a nation that has capitalized on the sea.

Thank you for posting this Gary. It's more than 25 years ago that I sailed out on the kotter but when I watch this video, those days come back to me like if it was yesterday. I had a marvellous time back then, I realise now ;-) Beautiful memories. So thanks again.
