Hi there! My name is Ali and I want to help you relax and learn how relaxing it can be to knit, crochet, and spin wool into yarn, as well as how to prepare the fiber for spinning. Here you can find relaxing, fun, and educational videos about knitting, crocheting, fiber preparation, and spinning wool into yarn. You can also find tutorials on how to spin, crochet, and prepare fiber for spinning.
A few years ago, I realized that my fiber art tools can be use to create ASMR sensations to help me relax, so I decided I wanted to share them with you! Knitting, crocheting, and spinning wool into yarn can be so satisfying. You can also see the various ways to prepare fiber for spinning, including making art batts on a drum carder, rolags on a blending board, carding using hand card, and more! I love using a variety of colors to make both art yarn and regular yarn.
I hope you enjoy it!

Knitting and crocheting vlog: So many WIPS; so little time! Vlogmas Day 1
Welcome to Vlogmas 2024! In this knitting and crocheting vlog, I'll show you all my knitting and crocheting projects I'mm working on. I've decided to devote Vlogmas 2024 to finishing my knitting, crocheting, and spinning projects, so in this video I'm going to show you all the things I have to knit, crochet, and spin during the month of December. I'm also going to unwrap three packages of fiber and tell you my plans for spinning those.
What are fiber arts?
Fiber arts refers to the creation of textiles and the materials used to create textiles. Not all fiber artists are the same, but I knit, crochet, and spin wool into yarn. I have used my yarn to make hats, scarves, baskets, shawls, blankets, and more. My mission is to show people how relaxing and fun fiber art can be through the use of unintentional ASMR and educational videos.
What is ASMR? ASMR stands for Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response, and it refers to a feeling of relaxation that some people get when they hear certain sounds. A lot of people describe it as a tingly sensation on the head or neck and spine. Some people say they feel relaxed, while others say it helps them fall asleep or treat insomnia. I've used it to help study or fall asleep. It should not be used to replace professional help.

Very pretty yarn. Have you spun Polypay?
@@LDSVenus thank you! I have not spun Polypay. What’s that?
Polypay is a sheep breed, it’s not as soft as merino but it is next to the skin soft. It’s an easy spin.
@ I’ll have to try it! I’ve been doing a breed study project for over a year now, but that’s not one I’ve heard of. I’ve heard of Polwarth, but not Polypay.
@@ColorsofHopeCraftsASMR I have a friend that raises meat sheep and crosses the ram, a Suffolk (not a softer wool), and they use Polypay ewes (who can also be used for meat sheep) because they are better moms and usually give birth to twins (they do have softer wool). Every once in a while they give me a fleece that I skirt and sent off to a close fiber mill to have turned into roving :).

We're you able to get it figured out? I read that you are doing a thick n thin yarn? My suggestion would be to slow down on your treadling. I have a tutorial of a demo I did in a group on my channel if that's helpful? @ where do you live? Donald Trump was President for four years here, including 2020, and I felt like my life was in the hands of him and our governor, because our governor did the least to protect us from COVID out of any governor. I started my channel right before the start of COVID, and I hope it helped some people during 2020 and 2021. A lot of my videos back then were in the style of ASMR because I wanted to use my fiber tools to help people relax. As we have gotten further along, I’ve started branching out with my channel, but the goal is still to show people how relaxing and fun fiber art can be; there is just a little less of an emphasis on soft sounds than there used to be.
@@ColorsofHopeCraftsASMR Hi Ali, I hope you're OK xx ❣️❣️❣️ Thankyou so much for the Heart ♥ Sending Heart ♥ back to you ❤️💞 I live in England. We have a Prime Minister who Trump thinks he's a Nutter and he's spot on there. He's taking more and more money from anybody and anywhere. If he has his way no one will have very much left to spend . I only learned to spin in 2021, I'd been Weaving during our Lockdown when Covid first happened. I decided I wanted to learn to spin to make yarns for Weaving with(.I could already knit and Crochet ) That didn't really happen has I found so much pleasure in the Spinning process and still do. I have used some of my Handspun Yarns for Knitting and Crotcheting, just not Weaving. Covid hasd a way of showing us how to take our Crafting in different ways from what we wouldn't have thought about. I started Spinning with Drop Spindles and then I got the eWheel 6, I wouldn't be able to use a Treadle Wheel due to arthritis in my Spine and also have issues with my feet. I love you and your Channel, I only found you through TH-cam recommending you. I wish I'd found you sooner though. I love learning about the different Fibre Prepping tools that people use. I have a Blending Board and somesmall Hand Carders. I use my Blending Board the most though. I love making Art Yarns, I've only recently started trying Core Spinning, I couldn't work out why I was finding it difficult to do, then suddenly realised that it was probably because I wasn't doing it from a Batt and what I was using as a Core wasn't quite thick enough. So I thought I'd alter my Core Thread and use a Batt and it was so much easier to do. Thanks to you showing how you Core Spin and your information it suddenly clicked. Also for the inspiration and your expertise, everything you do is greatly appreciated. ✨️🌞🌟 I hope you have a Wonderful Weekend 🥰✨️🌞🌟 Happy Spinning, Knitting and Crotcheting Special Fibre Friend 🎡🧶🧶🥰🐑🥰 Take care and stay safe Lots of love, Blessings and Huge Hugs Jen xxxx ❤️❤️❤️❣️❤️❣️❣️❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏🫂🫂🫂🫂🫂🫂🫂🐕🐕❤️❤️ PS. Hello!
Cardigan
I have a heap of tutorials showing how to spin this yarn with a few how to fix tips etc. As the others have mentioned please tighten your tension slightly, ether straighten the hooks or replace them with rounder ones, and with thick n thin you need to take your time, spin for the thin section and then feed on the bobbin with your hand on the wheel. Once you get the rhythm you will be spinning fast with the thin and then 1 or 2 peddle pushes with the thick. If your only trying to spin a thicker single ply then you need to spin slower.
@@josparadiseofcolor Those are some good tips! This yarn is a thick and thin core spun for a project I’m working on.
@ColorsofHopeCraftsASMR core spun you need to work much slower as it's a lot of hand eye work. I would also put the yarn through all the hooks, including the one next to the orifice.
@ColorsofHopeCraftsASMR I keep watching it and I think you are feeding it onto the bobbin faster then it can wrap it on the bobbin. So you need to tighten your tention to match how fast your spinning and feeding. I just set the tention to a speed where it pulls but not out of my hand. Like I can still core spin without it running away. Also I only slightly feed and the flyer does it for me. I hold the yarn and let it run through my hands as I core spin. Your pushing too much yarn onto the bobbin too fast and then it's becoming loose and going everywhere.
@@josparadiseofcolor that’s a great tip! Thanks, I’ll try it!
@@ColorsofHopeCraftsASMR good luck
Fluffy scarf 🧣❤ from Egypt ❤
I think when the overspun sections (places where you can see it is very coily, making little spirals) gets to the hook it gets caught, and gets thrown off.
Thanks, I have noticed that too.
I notice you are like trying to make lumpy art yarn. That in itself is an issue because the thick parts don’t twist much and the thin sections over spin causing the yarn to pigtail onto itself and when that happens as it is sliding across the hooks it causes the yarn loops to catch causing the yarn to jump off the hooks. It is the parts that are overspun that are causing this. Also you have an issue with not using the first hook and when the thicker parts move along they can grab the edge of the spinning bobbin and cause jumps and maybe even tangles but the main issue is the thin over spun areas. On occasion I get mine to jump as well and I spin super thin and consistent but when I overspin those loops will grab the hook wire and cause it to jump off. It doesn’t happen much. If you are looking to get smooth even consistent yarns I can help with that and as the others have stated, slow down. My suggestion is to slow down and if you still have the issue change one thing and try again. If it doesn’t change then go back and try something different but small changes. The over spun thread will catch the hooks and that can stop it from taking up the thread as well. Because of that I gather you are changing the tension yet still have the problem but you also have another problem of too aggressive of an uptake and now you have two problems. If you want that art yarn you need to slow way down so the thin sections are not over spun. Over spinning causes loads of issues. If you over twist, stop and draft out some more to undo that over twist then proceed a bit slower. th-cam.com/video/u9Io0ODSMQ4/w-d-xo.html. th-cam.com/video/lBZhyZTwXho/w-d-xo.html
It looks like your take-up is not quite strong enough and you do need to make sure you use that top hook.
@@FairilyFiberFun I have this problem regardless of how strong the tension is. Another problem is that the uptake doesn’t do a good job of getting the yarn onto the bobbin, regardless of how strong the tension is.
@@ColorsofHopeCraftsASMR The issue is over twisted skinny sections. Your tension should only be enough to easily pull the yarn onto the bobbin. Over tightening won’t help an over twisted thread.
I think overtwist is the problem, and your hooks are at all sorts of angles If your tension spring is stretching, it's a sign that you're tightening it too far. Try oiling your bobbin shaft because it may be binding on the bobbin. This will cause the bobbin to stop momentarily, throwing your single off the hooks. Replace your spring with an elastic hair tie. Replace the tension band at the same time. Treadle more slowly and only apply as much tension as will allow the thread to go on to the bobbin as it's produced. Try spinning more slowly Replace your hooks if possible Seek help from other local spinners
1. Put a bit more tension on the Scotch tension cord so it pulls more strongly. 2. Straighten out your hooks. 3. Treadle more slowly and draft more quickly. Your yarn is overtwisted and the snarls shown in the video hamper smooth takeup. 4. Try to keep the yarn feeding smoothly instead of fits, starts and jerks.
I have a Sonata, I get this issue mostly when I ply. Comparing it to my Ashford traditional, and checking the Sonata instruction book, I'd guess it's a combination of things. This is a little stream of consciousness, sorry for being so choppy. The hook shape makes it real easy for the fiber to jump off when it gets going fast since they don't curve back in on themselves. But I really suspect it's a tension and speed issue, and the hooks can't do anything to stop it from happening. I see some some corkscrews on your bobbin, which means too much twist to me, so I'm thinking tension is the root issue. Since your spring is stretched out, you might need to replace it. Make sure you install the bobbin with the larger groove on the back! I mess this up all the time. It looks like you might have yours the wrong way, which I have found will absolutely mess up the tension. For the immediate issue you're having, I find if I'm going too fast for the take-up, the extra slack flies out off the flier and goes wherever it goes, usually wrapping around at the base of the whorl for me, which is a lot of fun to stop and untangle. If you can fix your tension and try to draft/let the yarn take up at an even pace, I'd bet the issue will start to go away.
Actually for scotch tension, it doesn't matter if the large wheel is in the back or the front.
@@annasullivan2564 I agree there is too much tension. One of the things that has been happening (particularly when I make art yarn) is the yarn doesn’t always get sucked up onto the bobbin, which leads to over twisting. The bobbin is installed with the larger groove on the back.
I have the same issue on my Country Craftsman. Someone suggested that I add more hooks to the lower angled part of my flyer. I notice that you are not using that first hook. Try that
@@denisepulginostout827 I’ll try using the first hook, but this happens on my standard flyer as well.
it is because your hooks are on the left side of the flyer wood, try changing the hooks from one of your sides of the flyer to the other side of the wood, or put some extra hooks on one of the other sides of the wood. I hope you know what I mean? If not let me know. You could probably also try to solve this problem by bending your hooks a little more zo they get more of a round snap instead of this rather flat curve. I would try that first because it is a little easier. Good luck
@@ToBDefined this is how the Kromski Sonata was designed. I’ve talked to other people with these wheels, and they don’t have that problem.
You could try to change only the first hook, closest to your orifice, it looks as if your yarn just slides off. Does this also happen when you spin in the other direction?
@@ToBDefined Yes, I haven’t notice a difference in direction of the spin.
It does not matter where the hooks are located. I have wheels where hooks are on either side, both sides, same side or just one side. Hooks are hooks. Set up your tension right and get the right twist and you are good to go. Drafting is the keystone of spinning.
Get a better wheel. I have 4 Louet wheels and none of them give me problems.
That is amazing! So beautiful!

It was August of last year that I discovered the joy of spin my very first yarn… and it’s been a blessing. Sadly, treadling isn’t an option due to health issues but since picking up that first spindle and getting that first cop started, I’ve learned so much and now I have two e-spinners (both the Nano2 and the EEW 6 by Dreaming Robots). I’ve spent endless hours spinning and recently saved up enough to buy myself a blending board. I’ve washed my very first sheep’s fleece and am working myself through an alpaca fleece. Knitting with my own hand spun yarn is absolutely wonderful. I’ve participated in my first Tour De Fleece and that yielded me enough lace weight yarn for a large haapsalu (Estonian) lace shawl. Spinning is, to me, the perfect gift for a fibre addict: you get to spin exactly the yarn you want, in the weight, texture and colour(s) you want, made out of the fibre(s) you want and after the initial investment of a spindle or a wheel, weight-for-weight, the yarn is much cheaper and higher quality than anything you can buy. And you get hours of enjoyment and relaxation out of it. And… if at some point you don’t feel like spinning or knitting, you have endless hours of spinning content you can watch… like your videos. Plenty of inspiration! Greetings from Belgium’s countryside!
