    1. Thats not saving money on rails. Thats just reallocating that money to addditional footings. 2. Hope you never have to change panel sizes... The entire point of rails, is the flexibility to allow different things, for different uses. Your needs may change, and rails allow for that. These things simply lock you into what you bolt them in for today, and screw tomorrow. Absolutely terrible idea.

    All fastening systems come with specifications to respect. How do you respect the torque (NM) specifications with the driver tools used in the video?🤔

    • @TheMetalRoofingAcademy
      @TheMetalRoofingAcademy 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Martin, For our self-piercing fasteners, we recommend to use a screw gun which can be set to a specific stopping point so that after a few screws, you won’t really need to worry about over-torquing. Being said, our self-piercing fasteners have an epdm washer, and you’ll want to watch for the visual indication that the washer is compressed. That will be your visual cue that the fastener has reached the appropriate torque and stop.

    Thanks. Re. Grounding: can you run copper wire through the discs? Would you run then through each mounting point or only some?

    • @TheMetalRoofingAcademy
      @TheMetalRoofingAcademy 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You’ll want to use a grounding lug on each section of bonded sub-array or array. Our PVKIT will bond each column of modules, and by using a bonding jumper (or similar) to bond column to column, the entire sub-array will be bonded. Then, a grounding lug can be used to run a copper wire to ground. The grounding lug can attach to a module frame or a PVKIT disk. Grounding lugs, bonding jumpers, and other useful solar hardware can be found on the hardware section of our website (www.s-5.com/hardware), and can be purchased through our distributors.

    Nope. Flat mount will overheat under the panel, collect too much snow, can't be properly sun angled. There is no free lunch.

    • @TheMetalRoofingAcademy
      @TheMetalRoofingAcademy 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      While some projects certainly still have more success with a tilt mount system, the roof top solar industry has largely shifted towards flush mount systems. This is mostly since module efficiency has improved to the point that the ROI from the project is often better with flush mount systems compared to tilt. Flush mount systems can have more modules/roof space, compared to tilted modules which can get better efficiency per module due to the ideal tilt, but module/area is lower since space is lost due to shadows from the raised modules. Tilt mount systems also face much greater wind forces compared to a flush mount system.

    • @TheMetalRoofingAcademy
      @TheMetalRoofingAcademy 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      What I believe you are describing is a common misconception. What you are referring to is when buildings are designed with a "slippery roof load reduction". This is quite rare, and in nearly every high snow load area, using a slippery roof load reduction is against building code since buildings must be able to safely withstand the absolute most snow load the project location could experience. Adding snow retention on those roofs does not pose a risk, since the buildings are designed to handle the entire snow load that building code dictates.
