My parents took me to see this when it was released - not at a theatre but an auditorium - pretty packed too. I was only 9 years old but as soon as I hit the slopes I was doing (badly) royal christies and looking for bumps to jump off. I mainly raced as a kid but did take a detour for a few years in my early teens to get into "hot dog" skiing - then back to racing. Some of the skiers in this film are still alive and active as far as I know. Eg: Art Furrer is living in Switzerland and is well into his 80's. Suzy Chaffee is in her 70's now, living in Vail. Herman Gollner learned to flip watching Stein Erikson and was the first to perform the mobius - as far as I know he's still alive - probably skiing and climbing in his 80's. Remember too that these skiers are all doing their tricks on skinny, long skis - over 200 cm. And check out the boots. You can see Raichle Fiber jets on one skier - and you can see why a boot top fracture was one of the most common injuries back then. So great that this movie lives on on TH-cam - brought back a lot of memories.

I remember seeing this film in 1968 in the lobby of the Bear Valley Hotel, Bear Valley California. Heavily influenced by San Francisco, this film was emblematic of that generation and the times. The fledgling ski resort hosted Club Med and the fastest downhill race in North America. In 1968 it was the ski resorts first year with runs like Strawberry Fields , yellow submarine, and groovy gully.

Thank you sooooo much for putting this up! I own the laserdisc, although I haven't had my player connected into my system for years, and watching the above VHS version, I thought I was going out of my mind! - Where's "The Temple"??? Some of the segments I remembered vividly, others differently, still others not at all. I'm going to come back and study this a lot more! And now I have a good reason to reconnect my LD player. BTW, re "Love Found," has anyone ever pointed out its similarity to one of Tevye's lines in Fiddler on the Roof? - "A bird may love a fish, but where would they build a home together?" Anyway, thanks, thanks again!

This is my least favorite of the Mind's Eye collection. I know Jan Hammer is a very talented and well known musician, but I just don't think his style works for this type of computer animation. A bit too poppy and guitar driven at times. The music from "Mind's Eye" and "The Gate to the Mind's Eye" was much more varied and interesting. Just my opinion. Thanks for creating the compare though. I always wanted to see that. Here is a link to another comparison video of the original Mind's Eye side by side. th-cam.com/video/vt8wKl_UGNQ/w-d-xo.html

Seriously, Thank you for posting this. Until now I never knew that an alternate version of this existed. It's interesting to see the differences. I suppose that it is pointless to ask WHY the "RADIOSHACK" version existed in the first place. It was so bad. Then again I did FINALLY get to see the ducks faces, so that's fine.

Some friend made copies of videos for me in EP mode (6 hour mode). One of them was The Mind's Eye. Later, I've found a Video-8 version of it in Radio Shack. Some years later, I saw it on TH-cam. It was a little different. Now, I can see why. The copy and Video-8 version I have are versions for Radio Shack while the one I first saw on TH-cam was the original. As I checked out this comparison video, I kinda prefer the Radio Shack over the original.

I just picked up the Miramax version on LD a couple days ago for $5... I worked at Radio Shack in the early 90s and we played the tape almost constantly. When I left Radio Shack, I bought the Jan Hammer CD of the music... Anyway, I just figured my memory was bad and didn't remember some of the scenes... but yeah. I prefer the RS version. Is it available anywhere? (I'm nearly about to just digitize my LD through my DV Camcorder, and manually mix back in the RS scenes!) It's quite different, but I like the shots in it more.

Very interesting indeed. I remember being blown away by this as a HS freshman when our computer teacher showed it to the class, calling it "this neat virtual reality movie made entirely by computer animation" in 1993. After getting it on VHS the following year, I knew something about it seemed different...but was relieved to hear the tune Voyage during the end credits vs in an actual clip. Always wondered what exactly the difference was between the 2 versions, but now I get it. Too Far is laughable considering it was a satirical jab at how far technology had come by the early 90s...all archaic compared to a world of smartphones, apps, Google earth, and social media. Still cool to watch tho...and the soundtrack is still beyond awesome, pardon the pun.

Awesome! Thank you for taking the time to do this. I worked at Radio Shack when this came out and we had to keep it playing all the time. Even still, I bought me a copy and my kids loved it. I knew about the original from a copy I later checked out from the library and was confused at the time about the differences, as we almost had the RS version memorized we watched it so much. I pulled it up tonight and while watching, I told the wife I wish I could split screen them. Then I came across your awesome split screen. Thanks again.
