I wanted to give you a couple of suggestions which will greatly improve your 4wd experience. From what I gather, you are using a manual transmission. You should avoid using 4 Lo when in muddy conditions as the torque will dig you right into a hole. Staying 4H muddy conditions and use 4 Lo when crawling, mainly up or downhill. 4H will properly disperse the work between all four tires without digging into a hole with thw additional torque. Though you can take advantage of 4 Lo with a manual transmission by shifting to a higher gear, you really should only use 4 Lo in dryer conditions or for steep incline/decline.
