    The potential for ammonia as a green fuel and a potential liquid fuel replacement for any country, or area without access to traditional fossil fuels can be a life and world economy changer. Imagine no need to be indebted to tyrants for your energy source! The potential for distributed and democratized energy is immense. Now add to the mix the ability to make carbon negative hydrogen inexpensively (less than $1.00 USD per kg) and about half the cost to make ammonia is eliminated. There is an expanded future for ammonia!

    Hydrogen will always be a tiny niche energy source because it can never beat battery technology in efficiency and safety. Ever. Period. That’s just physics. Electricity can be transported almost instantly over inexpensive wires that blanket the planet. Hydrogen requires cooling, compression, pipelines that don’t exist, massive storage tanks, and most all hydrogen is still reformed from natural gas, meaning it isn’t any cleaner than methane. If you want to talk about using solar to perform electrolysis on water, that process is only a small fraction of the efficiency of just connecting a solar panel to a battery. Hydrogen is really the last dying gasp of a fossil fuel industry in decline. Given nearly all the wars in the last 50 years have been over fossil fuels, it’s time we rid ourselves of this toxic pursuit of a dwindling resource that will eventually run out anyway, collapsing civilization. We need to transition away from burning chemicals (reacting them with oxygen) to generate energy for the sake of humanity’s future. Solar, wind, tidal, geothermal, fusion, fission, and graphene superlattices are all energy technologies that can last hundreds of thousands, if not millions of years. There are also vacuum energy systems in development that would also produce clean limitless energy by pulling virtual particles apart (Hawking generators). Fossil fuels, even when reformed into hydrogen literally have no future at all, for any reason.

    Contrived- batteries do not need nickel, cobalt or even lithium. Sodium-iron batteries quickly becoming the 'go-to' for static storage. There is plenty of lithium for lithium-iron-phosphate car batteries, which are proven much safer than nickel-mangonese-cobalt batteries, or even lithium-ion (not to be confused with lithium-i'r'on) batteries.

    Hydrogen is not suitable for transportation, equipment for distribution is down much of the time as leaks are almost impossible to contain. Want proof NASA, Boeing, and ULA were unable to contain hydrogen from leaking on their Space Launch System even after identifying the problem. How can you expect pipelines to be leak-free? It takes 16 hydrogen tube tankers all burning diesel to move the same amount of energy as 1 diesel tanker. Green hydrogen to make ammonia for fertilizer on site is how excess green electricity should be used.

    But all this kind of talk is outdated and/or irrelevant. Now we have ` gold hydrogen ' (and plenty of it) which provides instantly available pure hydrogen. This is even being used to supplement manufactured hydrogen in B.C.s new province wide hydrogen re-fueling programs. And cost isn't even relevant when we are talking about the total solution to climate change. The present lethargy in going green hydrogen ' is due to having taken the EV route which has now proven undesirable, We need gutsy politicians to ensure that we get on with hydrogen.

    We have an unlimited amount of water to produce hydrogen. Lithium used in batteries is limited, mining Lithium and other minerals used in batteries is polluting the environment. Batteries last for a few years and their performance degrades every year. A typical EV battery lasts for 10 years and we need to recycle 60 old EV batteries to produce one new EV battery. In the long run investment in batteries is a waste of money.
