Finale @ Michigan Celtic Festival '24 - Appalachian clogging
The CommonWealth Dance Collective celebrated its 21st performance at the Michigan Celtic Festival, formerly known as the Saline Celtic Festival. The CDC was founded by Sheila Graziano in 2004, who serves as artist director, lead choreographer, and lead dancer of the ensemble. She received the Michigan Heritage Award in 2023 and has mentored several dancers as Mentor Artist through the Michigan Traditional Arts Apprenticeship Program (MTAAP) and the Ann Arbor Community for Traditional Music and Dance (AACTMAD) Apprenticeship.
In our Finale we celebrate each member and guest dancer, along with our musicians. Issac of the Saline Fiddlers Philharmonic @salinefiddlersphilharmonic3114 has previously performed with the CDC, and this was the debut clogging performance for Jen Paruk, Cathy Behrendt, and Gabrielle Tazzia.

Appalachian clogging!
Where is this marvelous group of ladies from? Eastern Kentucky?
We are an ensemble based in the Ann Arbor, Michigan area. Our group was founded 20 years ago by Sheila Graziano, who grew up tap dancing and then was first exposed to Appalachian clogging and flatfooting by the Green Grass Cloggers, Ira Bernstein, etc. at Wheatland over 40 years ago.

This took place literally 5 minutes drive from my house in the States. It was an absolutely amazing weekend! I went last year as well. I’m Irish/Scottish, so you know I had a keen eye out for anything not fitting traditional Irish/Celtic things. They did a phenomenal job. Even had “Strawhenge” with photos and the history of Stonehenge posted. It was built with bales of hay and was brilliant fun. I’ll be sure to be back in the States for next year’s Festival!

Clogging is a German thing.
Go to a Methodist church or one in is you're neighborhood. You're origin is German.
@@kirstencampbell2593 The style of clogging that we do, Appalachian clogging, developed in Appalachia when Euopean immigrants (Irish, German, etc.) shared steps from their dance traditions and those then also combined with steps from African and Indigenous dance. So you will definitely recognize many similarities and influences with other traditional percussive dance styles.
"Turkey in the Straw" variation. 🎉 💗 🎉
They make it look so effortless and easy, but I think that it would take me a while to learn the steps and choreography.
