@@isaacyiserecovery Not only similar , Yak-130 or to be more précise Yak-UTS was supposed to built under licence by Aermacchi under the designation AEM-130. After Russian and Italian partnership ended in the late 90s Italy made very minor modifications to the Yak-130 and named the result M-346. Aerodynamically both aircraft are identical which is explained by the fact that M-346 is just a copy .

Not a good argument to say a nuclear bomber is a pork barrel due to not being used. What if it had been used? Also Congress had less to do with it than Reagan wanting it did. Congresses problem ala the B1 is that they doled out the money in small batches which meant that there are a large number of B1s that are unique from others making parts not interchangeable.

@@shawn97006 ICBMs and SLBMs are the tools of nuclear war, not bombers. When President Eisenhower cancelled the B-70 in 1969, he said reconnaissance and strike mission was "crazy" since the nuclear mission was to attack known production and military complexes, and emphasized that he saw no need for the B-70 since the ICBM is "a cheaper, more effective way of doing the same thing". Eisenhower had it right, as did Clinton when he cancelled the B1, and even NATO said the B1B was not the right weapon, suggesting that the money would be better spent building thousands of cruise missiles. The B1B did not have the votes in congress to pass the funding measure until the manufacturer got to some congressmen and promised to build some parts or components in their district. Likewise, the F-35 gets parts from 1900 vendors in 48 states. Even though the program was already being questioned on 2012, it still got built even though it was late and vastly over budget. Money talks. The F-22 has only shot down a balloon. The B1B never flew a low level penetration mission. We spend hundreds of billions a year on these advanced weapons and they only ever get used against third tier powers, you know, like Iraq and Afghanistan. Meanwhile, the AV-8B Harrier is still out there flying combat missions and shooting down threats.

The B-29 wad the only bomber to fly & drop nuclear bombs. Be thankful for that in that nuclear weapons have not been used since WW II!

@@guyh.4553 It will be the only plane to have ever dropped a nuclear bomb. Nuclear war will be fought with ICBMs and SLBMs. Even Eisenhower knew that when he killed the XB-70 and Carter knew it when he killed the B1. The B1B got built because it made jobs in congress representatives districts.
