The True Story of The Kneeling Drunkards Plea. I sing and play guitar and tell the story of a young girl (5 or 6 years old) witnessing the Carter Sisters singing this song they had written growing up in rural Virginia. They had been inspired to write songs because of their mom Maybelle, Aunt Sara and Uncle AP Carter. (The original Carter Family) A young Helen Carter is attributed to having to b...

This is awesome. 🙂
For that time a lot of pressure for a 19 year old!
GRUEN HALL TX OK.
Sixty years ago, in 1964, I went with friends to Nashville to see the Grand Ole Opry. At that time, the Opry was still a radio program broadcast from the Ryman Auditorium. The featured act of each segment would be at the microphone, but there were always groups of people milling about the stage, taking care of production or talking together, waiting to go on. The Ryman was filled with people from far and near, drawn by famous recording artists and the mystique of the "home of country music." Every performer got a big hand, and the crowd seemed happy. Then, a middle-aged woman came out alone, wearing a simple house dress and holding an Autoharp. It was "Mother" Maybelle Carter. She approached the microphone and began to play "Liberty" on the Autoharp. No daughters, no vocal, no Carter "scratch," just that old square dance number on the Autoharp. Well, the Ryman exploded. She got more applause by far than anyone else that night. Suddenly, everyone stood applauding loudly and wouldn't stop or sit down. It was then I realized why all those people had come. It wasn't merely the stars whose recordings they could hear any time on the radio; it was what Maybelle Carter represented to those people. To them (and me), Maybelle was what country music is about, where it had come from, and what it meant. I will never forget that night and that great lady.
@@DubClark Thank you for the great memory ! Mother Maybelle was the best ! Too many accolades to list ! You'll want to read the book I've been working on for years ! It's almost ready for publishing. It's about the great success story of Maybelles band, " The Carter Sisters and Mother Maybelle" The story has never been told From Poor Valley to the Grand Ole Opry and beyond!
@@tonylupo1764 Get that book published! As an old guy, I don’t have that long to wait. LOL

can't stop listening to these recordings! the instrumental tune is Chet's tune "Canned Heat" (which seems to be based on Merle Travis' tune "White Heat")
Never let our culture die…
I’m sorry but Sarah carter sucked at singing lol maybelles voice was a million times better
I had no idea how significant the Carter family was on country music, music in general. They were fabulous.
Precious.
I Love being white
yes I loved that family!
I love the entire Carter family things for many years of great music
I love Anita Carter's music, I love her work with Hank Snow. What was Anita's children's name
❤️❤️❤️. Someone help me. Who is playing the bass violin?
Remembered from childhood. The death angel visited so many during epidemics, especially in the south it seems.
Maybelle had such beautiful eyes and a voice to match. Love this music
Yes, gorgeous eyes!
Anita had the voice, she knew how to sing. Her sisters said,” She had the pipes.”
Beautiful music indeed.
Anita Carter ,she must of been going through so much pain ,with her rhumatoid arthritis, her voice, was one of the most ❤beautifulest sounds in Country ,thankyou Anita love you always xxx
I love her eyes. Piercing ice blue
heard that Chet played on this song
Beautiful music.
BEAUTIFUL SONG AND AMEN
貴重な映像をありがとうございます😂 アニタカーターの天使の歌声よ永遠に❤
A Rose Covered Grave (for our baby) A jewel from this earth now shining in heaven Our baby today to God we have given Her coming brought sunshine Her leaving brought pain When they greet her in heaven how the angels will sing Chorus; Tonight my heart is aching, with the sad and sweet memory A rose covered grave for our baby and a broken heart for me We miss you dear baby, your toys on the floor A doll and a crib you will play with no more Two little shoes and a teddy bear too Lye where you left them to remind us of you Chorus; Tonight my heart is aching, with the sad and sweet memory A rose covered grave for our baby and a broken heart for me #3rd verse (not sung on this recording) Mommie will meet you in heaven some day You have just gone to light up the way Sleep peacefully in a home for the blessed You look so happy I know you're at rest. Chorus; Tonight my heart is aching, with the sad and sweet memory A rose covered grave for our baby and a broken heart for me
BEAUTIFUL SONG
A Gem!
Would you happen to have the full show that aired on march 26th, with Hank Williams?
By all means it is a beautiful documentary. Good ladies all of them and great musicians. It is a pity they have all passed away... but their music and their memories stay forever.
The whole Carter family are beautiful people ❤
A great documentary on their early careers. What a blessed talented family!
Bella cultura que en la vida en alguna oportunidad iremo a conocer personalente. GRACIAS BENDICIONES

That's so beautiful. The Carters were so talented and gifted. Thank You for the music.
2:20 -- I didn't have to hear the familiar words, "Hello. I'm Johnny Cash" to know whose resonant voice it was. Joaquin Phoenix did a pretty fair job in _Walk the Line,_ but nothing really equals the sound of Cash's voice.
I love it when the two things I love the most, music/the guitar and history merge and we learn about these amazing musicians through these great documentaries!
Absolutely love these, thank you for posting. The instrumental piece Chet is playing here is "It Makes No Never Mind"
Anita could sing me to sleep everynight forever.
the instrumental track that Chet plays is "Ida, Sweet As Apple Cider"
Thanks for you input , I love these great old programs. Seriously This was the most talented 5 artists in one band ever. They all had successful solo and band contracts over the years. Amazing resumes
@@tonylupo1764 agreed, what a supergroup!
God, Tony, you've sent me this at 1.40 in the morning and there's nothing I can do but listen to these beautiful girls pick and sing, like they did all their lives. But I have to sleep sometime, you know.
A child wrote this song! That is amazing.
❤❤this 042024😊😊
A blessed and talented family of the 20th Century!
A young Anita Carter. Not given enough credit. Talented and beautiful. God blessed her with a huge voice.!
I also would like class to come back
Doesn't June just sparkle like a diamond! I've loved the Carter Family since I was a small boy and was the reason I learned to play the guitar.
