You should mention the Coriolis effect, the effect which spins an ice skater faster as they pull in their arms. The trick is to know your square numbers. This problem shows why it is important to memorise the square of each number up to 25 at least.

I solved it using more simple and quick method, I factorized x^2 - 1 = (x - 1)(x + 1) and cancelled the square root of (x + 1) from both sides knowing that x can't equal -1. Then by squaring both sides and taking the common factor x I left with the equation x^2 - x - 1 = 0 directly
