picked this old gem up from a thrift shop yesterday. carefully pulled the casing apart to find out how it worked. cleaned up a bit of dust from the insides, put it back together with a battery, and this is the result. inside it has a turntable that is "belt driven", and when the rotary is turned, it resets the stylus arm and produces the phrase. the phrases are random, and often you will get 3 ...

RUNNING ON HOT WATER
I watched these few laps with heart in my mouth as the rider (was it Jason McEwen ? or Andrew Stroud ?? some one will correct me, ) almost high sided the bike right in front of me just on the railway track "S's , the back end slid way out and I thought we were going to see our precious bike wreaked I thought that was a bit reckless to do such a hot lap but the crow loved it of course. Great to hear. I would love to own one. What did you pay for the engine? I would also like to see a higher quality video of this set as this is currently the only video thereof on youtube, and I cant afford the engine to make one myself.
the engine was a gift from a boss i had a few years ago, one of her thrift shop finds for $20USD. if i remember, i will try and put together another video, as i have a new camera, but it likely wont be until the end of february as i dont have a layout at home.
NO WAY!!!! $20?!?!?!?! You are one lucky person. I'm just amazed to actually see one run. I am currently working to aquire the Chessie set, which is their most rare. I want to make a full length video going over each set car in detail.

thanks :) its a work in progress and designed for portability so i have added some of the tomy capsule range tunnels etc, which can be removed. i do plan on adding more plants and such, eventually. i have fits and starts where i wont touch it for several months, and then get inspired and cant do enough, haha

How big is this
will get measurements this week. its not overly big, i can lift it easily. maybe 1m x 2m? roughly.
finally got measurements, Mike. its 1205mm x 600mm.
That model was made by Tyco, and was part of a special set in the 1970s and 80s! Looks cool!

i tested the set and it doesnt go. gotta figure out how to repair it and dont have time at the moment.
sunhuntin you still have It? I’ve repaired several Rivarossi red box units and they run nicely.
thanks, bud. the loco usually earns me a number of friendly insults and semi serious death from the other guys threats whenever i run it. my boss paid $20USD for the loco and tender, and i paid $300USD for the coaches.
sunhuntin Why would you get death threats? Sure, it’s a rare model, but it’s made to be run! I’d love to have one on my layout, but I have a Chessie so I can’t complain. That one’s more rare, but no one has ever given me a death threat for running it. It’s what they were made for!!
