Africans never specifically asked reggae or dancehall artists to sing songs about freeing Africa-that’s a choice the artists make based on their preferred genre. Dancehall addresses different issues than reggae, and Afrobeat focuses on what it needs to. That doesn’t mean it’s rubbish. In fact, Afrobeats is doing way better than our music. Just look at the videos-they’re getting more views, and more people are being drawn to the music because of its melodic feel. Sound and melody existed before words could be formulated, so maybe Jamaicans should focus more on that rather than just focusing on lyrics. We don’t embrace differences, yet our motto is “Out of Many, One People.” Lol, pure rubbish.
