Lush Walking Interview, Tokyo, Oct. 1994
มุมมอง 29K16 ปีที่แล้ว
Miki, Emma, Chris and Phil answer questions as they walk around Tokyo
Man, those harmonies are so powerful it practically hurts.
Just finished Miki’s book and am trying to find all online interviews now that I understand her better. I can see why Emma would get mad when interviewers only wanted to speak to Miki but it wasn’t Miki’s fault. At times, Miki came across as anxious at all of the attention she got and she knew that the attention would bother Emma (main songwriter) and this anger would be directed at Miki at some point. Emma was nurtured to be competitive and prove others wrong. Miki had more boyfriends and was thinner than Emma. Emma viewed being in a band as a business and therefore could come across as cold. Miki was looking for friendship and closeness from Emma, which she feels she hardly got, but ended up getting it from Moose. Miki was very close to Chris and tried to rally Chris from his depression before he killed himself. Miki is the type of person I would want as a friend. I met the band in 1996. Emma was the nicest to me (she asked where I got a poster of the band that I wanted to be signed), Phil was pretty quiet, Chris was drunk but pleasant, and Miki seemed exactly like she is in this interview, surprised by the attention. I met them in that order. I used to love Britpop in the mid-90’s but detest it now (it wasn’t very good). After Lush disbanded, I found Linoleum, who I still love, but Lush excluding Lovelife, is still my favorite band of all time.
thanks for this :)
This was my first live show! Thank you so much for posting this. Babes in Toyland opened for them. I remember Miki standing in the front watching Babes' set.
Before I met you I was blind Pills and liquid filled my mind Beneath your outline I was new Overflowing with your tune And don't you know you're beautiful Next month I missed you like a child Couldn't see past you though I tried And don't you know you're beautiful Now I think of every hour When you still retained your power And the precious nights we'd share When we'd breathe in common air The feeling now you're gone This wretched life goes on The knife inside of me It turns just like a key The sunlight always comes too soon My body asks me what to do I was so small and vulnerable And you were only beautiful The seasons shining in your hair And it was more than I could bear But I can see you in my smile And you are only beautiful
I was at this gig. It was my first date with my ex husband. ❤️
This performance is SPOOKY good, Miki the cutest girl of 1992. Lush the best band of that year!🎉🎉
93-94 to !!
“Don’t ignore me, do it!!”
I was there and I still remember this blowing my mind
Who the f*ck conducts an interview with a band while walking in front of them???
Angelic voices Emma
Sends me f brilliant. Like I am walk-in in Europe
Damn Chris SO F’ing happy here… WTF happened to make him do suicide though as I lost a friend to suicide in 2000 (the widower has been A PRICK towards my existence but I don’t go into that here😕) so I’m just still perplexed over this. I’m not alone eh???
a month after the 96 tour ended Emma announced she was quitting the band, supposedly Chris had suffered from depression during his live, the band breaking up contributed to his depression as he took his live a month later. Chris was known as one of the nicest most generous people ever, especially for a rock star. why is it the truly best people take their own lives and not the ones that everyone wish's would do it !
Walking is a stupid idea. Just bad planning.
1:00 😛 You are amazing Chris
immortal
I LOVE THEM.
Even in a crappy fidelity camcorder from the early 90’s you can still hear and sense the WALL of guitars and sonic crush of this band 30 years later.
Totally!
Only Lush could create a MOOD like this in broad daylight. I listened to Spooky countless times when it came out. I’m rediscovering it. Such a beautiful album. Long live Lush!
Discovered Lush some months ago and I’m absolutely in love! Spooky is one of my top 5 albums of all time, and it holds such a special place in my heart
This is one of the most mind blowing incredible live performances I have ever seen in my life
Split never received the attention and accolades it deserved. Such a great album from start to finish.
You’re right!
Thank you for this its so HD!!!!

r.i.p. chris
back when frisco was cool
too bad the audio is bad, the visuals are 90s bliss
does the banner say "live 105"? thought the bay area rock station in the 90's was 98.5 kome
kome was south bay. you've got kome on your radio.
i was at this gig. refresh my memory, did Babes In Toyland open up for them at this show?
Yes, according to Miki’s own gig notes Babes in Toyland did open at this show. I’m amazed it’s been 10 years since I posted this clip on TH-cam! Since then, I have put the entire show on my Lush tribute website, its one of my favorite Lush live videos: www.lightfromadeadstar.org/Video/Live%20Shows%201990-1996.htm#1992-Mar-23_New_Haven,_CT
There was a multi angle videos of this gig in better quality on here until a few days ago when the account was terminated. If anyone has a link i would be grateful.{Hope your reading this Roy Oh} Best version on youtube,Miki rocking out like there`s no tomorrow.Brilliant, brilliant band.
Still great.
Seen for a split second in this interview... "Eiko Select" directly on the red hair. Eiko is known as Ako, a super powered female seen in early anime movies.
"Project A-Ko" is what you are describing?
I wasn't even born at that time but I'm having mixed feelings of nostalgia and euphoria while watching this. Oh and I love the way Miki moves with her guitar
This is their best song and they don't play it on their reunion tour???
One of my favorites Lush songs finally made it live to youtube!!! Hoever all lush fans (forever fans) must go out and look for an enhaced live version of this song!! Everytalks about Miky because, well its Miky and shes awesome, but its fair to say also that Emma is the perfect shoegaze girl!! All four were great!!
Oh God, this brought a huge lump to my throat and tears to my eyes. I've missed them the most of any band I've ever loved and this footage shows again why I miss them so much. Just brilliant…..
well, how soon after seeing each of these bands, did they break up? all bands split eventually...
ewwww, no thanks..
Love it - I was at this gig right at the front. :D
this is one of my fav lush songs
you're so lucky :(
miki is amazing !!!!!! in every way !!! looks, voice , body rythmn ...just adorable !
I was at this show!
Yeah! One was in Portland, Maine! I was a t that one!
Just after they finished the tour with Ride in April 1991, they did 4 shows with Janes Addiction
I was at this show, Sam! amazing.
Believe it or not, this is my video recording. The very, very first thing I ever documented, in fact! This performance was legendary, to this day I still get chills thinking about it! I fIlmed with Sony HandyCam CCD-F70 8mm recorder (mono mic)...I still have the case for the 8mm master, but can't find the tape, but luckily I made a safety copy on VHS.
Thanks for it.
Miki was the Debbie Harry of the Shoegaze genre.
Great recording! You've captured the zeitgeist of the times with it.
they are one of the coolest band even now. i am so happy to watch this interview vid in tokyo. they are so nice in this film, arent they? im still big fan of them. miss them!! why broke up??
Sadly, they broke up when the drummer, Chris Aclund, committed suicide in 1996. It was devastating news to the band, families and friends, and fans. They did reunite - and if you haven't heard it yet, they released a 4-song EP in 2015 called "Blind Spot". It is FANTASTIC. I was amazed, usually when bands are apart for a long time their sound changes and often disappoints - but I would put "Blind Spot EP" up there with their best work ever. <3
I was bring on 2012
They opened for Jane's Addition./ I can't remember,...
Magic time in my life,...then!
oh yes, please...
