Hey, it depends. At one point it was 3 days a week because I was doing 2 placements at the same time (one online and one in person) but because of client availability, I had online clients on 2 different days. But right now I’m only doing 1 placement and I have 3 clients so I’m only there for 3 hours and I stay to make notes etc. So placement will normally be just one day and how long you’re there depends on how many clients you have, this should normally be between 3-5 clients in a day

Hey, thank you! I didn’t have to do an entry test, I didn’t know there was one lol. Once I’m qualified, I’m not 100% sure but it will vary for different groups of people so anything between £30-£50 when I’m starting out

@@ceethecounsellor it was a test to see if you could reference etc a certain style eg harvad style ..before you got on the course. You could do it however much times you could till you passed, then your able to start the course and 30 to 50 an hour isn't bad at all..how much clients do you realistically expect to average or do a day

I did a level 3 counselling diploma and then did my masters which I’m finishing this summer. The pay will vary depending on your experience and the job. Starting salaries for therapists will be around £23-£30k but can increase as you grow in experience and depending on the demand for that job

They fund any degrees as long as they are in the UK

No it’s not, a lot of people come into counselling from a wide variety of careers. You can study counselling on the side while maintaining your current career and you can see if it’s for you without having to drop your job. The classes are usually once a week, and for a few months so it won’t put too much demand on you. Thank you for watching, glad you found the video helpful!

Hey Kieran! Congratulations on completing your course 👏🏾. I think you could volunteer with a helpline like the Samaritans etc to help you improve on your counselling & communication skills for sure. If you want mental health experience, working in a mental health hospital might be helpful as a HCA but from experience, you won’t get to practice counselling skills much, but you could get to work on your communication with patients. But either way, as you progress through the counselling courses, your communication and counselling skills will also improve naturally even if you don’t do the volunteering or anything else. If you choose to do a masters, such experience will come in handy and increase your chances of being accepted onto the course however.

You can just do an undergraduate psychology degree, you don’t need to do counselling, that’s a speciality you can do after psychology

@@ceethecounsellor Our L4 tutor says you don't need a degree to be a counsellor...it is all really confusing. My degree will help, of course, but it is starting to look like an impossible mountain to climb.

@andic6676 your tutor is right, it’s not mandatory to have a degree but it does make your chances of getting employed easier because most places ask for a degree or masters or PhD. It just depends on where you want to work.

You can apply for a masters degree in counselling psychology at a UK university

Hi, that would depend on whether your university allows it and if they are partnered with NHS services to give them placement students from your university. My NHS placement was on our university placement database and then I applied, that’s how I got the placement

Hi Bub, once you’ve done level 4 or the master’s, you would be a counsellor and psychotherapist. The terms are quite interchangeable although they have small differences, but not so much that you can’t call yourself either one. What matters more is that your course is accredited. The route you’ve mentioned is the postgraduate route so yes, you would need a level 3 diploma and then you can go on to the masters degree (but you would already need to have an undergraduate degree). I hope that makes sense? The undergraduate route would just require you to do a counselling degree and you would become qualified. Accreditation is a higher level of qualification which you would reach at PhD level or after you’ve qualified at masters level (I hope that’s not too complicated to understand).
