The rainy river between the paper mill and Pelland is the best large pike water I've fished that flows. Lots over 40". Also black duck and elephant lake have 40"+fish. I've caught several there as well. Crane lake too.

Also, make sure you don’t grab them by the gills normally people do with fish but the bigger sturgeon are pretty heavy and if you grab there gills like that it can tear there gill and kill them.

I love the minnow net

First off, considering hes a kid, just grab the net for him thats dads job, net the fish. Second, if you are trying to teach and you want him to learn how to grab the net with fish in hand then when he goes to grab the line again tell him no, put the line down and grab the net. Third, dont toss the pliers angrily after you failed to do the first two things i said. Just keep it a happy environment because it will either be a good memory or a memory that leaves a bad taste in his mouth and that goes for every decision you make as a parent.

Shut up dad, I know what I'm doing! Everyone is picking on the dad here for not showing more enthusiasm. I wish I had a dad that knew more than I did about fishing by the time I was that age. To be fair I still wouldn't have listened. My dad helped me with the basics, I became an experienced angler by loosing big fish and making mistakes on my own!

If I tell a kid to not pick something up and they are looking me in the face when I tell them not to while they are looking at me they still do it, I would take the picture and then comely sit down after putting the equipment up. Then drive home. He would have fished no more that day, I promise you that. Apparently, this kid is the leader and this guy is the suggestion giver.
