My Midlife Musings
Australia
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 1 ต.ค. 2011
I gained a lot of weight in my late teens. Then after decades struggling to be healthy & not knowing why it was a struggle, I received a few diagnoses that helped explain why. Knowing about them & learning how to live my life to avoid exacerbating them, or how to mitigate their affects as much as I can, has finally seen me make slow but steady progress on my journey to lose fat & gain better health. These videos are me figuring stuff out as I continue the journey.
(In my 30s I found out I had Sleep Apnoea but most likely I'd had it for decades because I've snored my whole life, even as a newborn premmie baby.
In my 30s I also found out I had Multiple Sclerosis (MS) & again I'd had that for a long time as so many weird instances and things finally made sense. My migraines in my 20s had actually been optic neuritis.
Hit my 40s & cue type 2 diabetes.
Just recently I've learned I also have Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder, (PMDD) & again have likely had it since my first period.)

No A/C! Only pedestal fans. Temps inside the house reached 26°C/78.8°F. Yuck temps for anyone, let alone someone with MS. Can I keep my 10K steps per day streak going, or does the weather trip me up?

Did I mention it's hot? That it's gonna be hotter? Iced water, cold pizza, lychee sorbet and a nap made today much more bearable. I wouldn't have even dreamt of doing this shopping trip last summer. Today it was not only easier than I thought possible but I also enjoyed it! (Also...I REALLY NEED TO LEARN HOW TO DO THUMBNAILS!)

Recorded this three weeks ago. Slowly getting through my back log of videos. This is a rambling one but I had a lot to share about what I've been learning and how I'm making progress despite the scales trying to tell me I'm making zero progress.

Some days are easier and some days are brutally hard. Breaking them down into smaller walking sessions is definitely helping. How small did I need to go one day this week? Check out the video to see.

My neighbor has 2 huskies. They both hug me when I get home from anywhere. They are so sweet.
Aww, how lovely. Huskies are adorable, and talkative! 😊
My keys need a tracker lol
I hear ya!
RIP Cherries 😢
I was so sad. They're available only when in season, so every cherry is precious! (I dislike food waste too.)
Those look amazing! Good job!!!!!
Thank you!
It certainly does mean that you should... more and more and more till your knees and abs crave it.
Oh I'm not giving up entirely! Will try again when I'm a bit stronger and have a bit less fat to cart around. Will be interesting to compare how I go next time I try. :)
Good job on getting steps in. Some days our bodies just need rest. ❤
Thank you! Definitely agree. 😴
That’s great progress!!!! 🎉🎉🎉
😁 Thanks!
That’s encouraging!!!
It really is!
Recording in your bag sounds like something I’d do. 😂
🤣 Glad I’m not the only one!
I love car washes. My kids do too. Ours still have the rainbow and it smells so good.
hooray! it really does smell good.
😊 I also get that childish giddiness in a strong wind or torrential rain 😅
☺☺ Me too! Extra special bonus points if it's a cool change in summer and you get that fabulous smell of rain on hot ground!
Looked so fun!!!
It was, I did it several times. Was a wee bit sore the next day but SO worth it!
I love to swing and at the height of my weight gain it hurt to sit in a swing, it’s still a bit tight, but I can do it.
Good for you! I bet it feels nice to do fun activities again without pain. I'll try the swings next time. I still have a bit to go before I can go on the flying fox though.
Good job!!!
Thank you!
Visuals can be so helpful! I’m so glad they are helping you!!!!
They are! Thanks!
I love the cubes! 😊
Aww, thanks! Me too!
Well done for completing 75 soft!! It may not have gone 'perfectly' but perfect doesn't exist for us mere humans!! Can see a massive difference between the two photos - well bloody done!! ❤
I wasn't sure if I was gonna make it, especially those last two weeks. Yup, it's so freeing to give "perfect" the boot! ❤ YAY! Thank you!
Everything fun is way too expensive
Certainly feels like it, lately!
I’ve had days like that. I stayed in bed on Sunday and slept the day away. I just couldn’t do anything
I hope it was restful and restorative for you. ☺
You could try thinning shears
🤦♀️ Ya know, I never thought to buy any...and the hairdressers have ALWAYS used them on my hair. Thanks for the suggestion!
PMDD is the worst. I can completely relate to the horrible fatigue that comes with it. I hope you feel better. Your hair looks great.
It really is. I'm sorry you also know what that level of fatigue is like. 🤗 Thanks! It feels so much better now.
hey, i wish you all the best. I hope you'll reach your goals, just keep grinding and working and believe me you'll reach your goals.
Thanks, you too!
Looks like a nice cool cut
It really is so much cooler!
This was interesting and I'm native American and I say that you are A Beautiful woman 😊❤❤❤❤❤ I'm A subscriber to your channel by the way
Thanks.
Your assessment of all the various things in everyday life is actually very good. But you never talked about the various thought processes that cause you to arrive at your various decisions. Are you an impulsive person? Or do you plan things vigorously? Are you influenced by others? Or are you a lone soldier? And lastly, who or what inspires you to do better?
Thanks. I wasn't really in tnhe mood that day for a deep dive. Sometimes. Often. Not really. Nope. My family and friends, and many people I find inspiring.
@@mymusings47 Ok thanks for the answers and i look forward to a deeper video where you go into deeper issues. I have enjoyed watching you personal life but allow me to point out that absolutely nothing is known about you between the years 1975 - 1998. That a 23 year gap. Whatever happened to you in those crucial years would have had a massive effect on you for the rest of your life Jesus went mssing for 18 years. Absolutely nothing is known about him during that time. Whatever happened to him in those crucial 18 years would have a massive effect on him for the rest of his life. Same thing with you. Those 23 years were and are massively important. If you are deliberately secretive about the years 1975 - 1998 there has to be a reason. Just an observation. If you were abused during that time then its probably best to keep it off camera. But otherwise, i personally think you should give people the history and background so they can put the many other things about you into context. Peace.
Thanks for your interest. I'm just as curious to see where the vlogs will take me in the future. I hadn't really thought about discussing my my childhood further on this vlog as I wasn't overweight until I was an adult and I've already spoken about being an athletic child and that I've had PMDD since my first menstrual cycle. So, to my mind there's no need to talk about those things as this vlog is about my current struggles with PMDD, MS, fitness etc. Again, thanks for taking the time to ask some interesting questions.
@@mymusings47 Ok keep up the good work. Peace.
Ill try the happy snack company, thanks. ❤
Hope you like them! They have savoury and sweet options. (And they're often on special.)
Good job! It’s always exciting to learn new skills.
It sure is! Speaking of which, how do you put the music in with your shorts or over the videos? Where do you get that from? (How do people use snippets of copyrighted music?? I'm so confused!)
I have oats with flax and chia in it…that helps keep me full longer.
I love flax seed but cannot handle the texture of chia seeds. lol I'll try some flax in the porridge and see if that helps too.
I just finished my dishes. I’m heading into my pms week and feeling awful. I figure I’d better get as much done today as I can.
Good for you! {sings like Lambchop} Dishes , this is the chore that doesn't eeeend! (and laundry!) Hope PMS week isn't too rough for you. Do you get cravings too? (When you're rationing are they harder to meet?)
Nice that you hit your goals to read the book. 😍
Thank you! 😊
Oh yeah I feel you about your brain melting when overheated 😂 NSV’s are actually so amazing - it’s great that you can see progress in other ways and I bet you felt so amazing when it fit ❤ It’s crazy how you adjust to new shoes isn’t it - the ones we have seem so comfy until we get used to new ones 😂 I’m glad you’ve put the binge behind you, you’ve accepted it for what it is and dealt with it well. You could have spiralled and let it continue (speaking from my own experience) so to pull it back and continue with your good habits is fantastic! Keep going ❤
Oh wow, I thought it was just me that didn't cope with the heat. NSV's are awesome! I did indeedy! Thanks, it's easier to put them behind me than it used to be for sure. Hope you're having a good week! ❤
Looks like a nice walk.
It was. 😊
Haha, that’s a funny surprise! Yay for a victory!
I gave in to a few Oreos today…I’ve been in bed with a headache all day though. I’m feeling better now.
Glad you're feeling better, headaches are awful!
You can do it!!!!
Thanks! I hope so!
I love non scale victories! It’s a visual confirmation that you are on the right track.
Me too! Have you had any lately?
It's going the opposite way for us. Our light nights are getting darker earlier here - I love cosy evenings but I also love nice light evenings too! Least being distracted on your walk hopefully made your walk more eventful and go quicker lol. Oooo the smell of McDonalds is divine lol!! You're doing so well - keep going 💖
LOL Yes, I was surprised how quickly the walk went after all. The light evenings make it better, I imagine there're not many hours of light during winter where you are. Yeah, takeaway smells SO good.
Crazy that there wasn't much difference between the salad and the burger! Car picnic is cute - I love having a little drive and sitting in the car to eat my lunch 😊
I truly was gobsmacked at how little difference there was. But, also amazed at the difference the two meals would make in the length of time it would take before I got hungry again.
Congratulations of your weight loss! You're doing so well <3
Thanks! I'm waiting for the PMDD shoe to drop though, I must admit. {sigh} I wish I could keep doing it like this all the time, it would make it SO much easier!
I need to go shopping also…I’m completely out of fruit.
Get anything fun, or good bargains?
Wraps are yummy! I had a bbq pork sandwich on keto bread today. It was good. I’m about to figure out what supper will be in a little bit.
Yum! Sounds delicious. What'd you end up making?
I’m very close to being out of the obese range with my bmi. I think I’m .3 away from being in the overweight range. It’s been fun to watch it drop this year.
Oooh, congratulations! That's great to hear.😃
Congrats on the weight loss. I’m working on that too. I’m down 23 lb this year. I’m trying to get to 25 lb down by the end of September. I’ve lost it slowly so that hopefully I can keep it down.
23lbs down in 8 months is impressive! Another twolbs by the end of September is a good sensible goal. It's taken me six years to do 57lbs. I'm also hoping that super slow and sort of steady works for me. I'm tired of yo-yoing, 🪀
You sound chipper even if you are distracted.
I was definitely in a much better mood with more energy than I’d had in awhile. Thanks for noticing. 😃
If you missed the "Cheekun Good!" movie reference in the title...here's what I'm meaning: th-cam.com/video/jAx67gfWU50/w-d-xo.html
I hope you can get rest and feel rested. It’s miserable to just feel tired all the time.
Thanks! The good thing is that it does pass...the bad thing is it comes back every month,
My great Aunt used to make fried salmon patties and bring them to my Memaw. They were always so yummy. It’s still my favorite way to eat salmon, but mine never taste like hers.
I love salmon patties too. Love that you have that memory of your relatives. (I can't make my Nanna's stew or rissoles taste right either, despite having her on video teaching me how to do it!)
Very nice 👍👍
Thank you 👍
Insomnia is awful - watching the clock slowly move towards morning and the then exhaustion that comes with it 😔 Hope you manage to sleep better in the nights that follow ❤ It’s great that you’ve found a way to satiate your cravings without giving in to temptation xx
Sounds like you've experienced it too. {hug} I had a few more nights but it seems to be less than it was the other years where it was almost half my cycle every month.
It’s so hard to not give in to food cravings! You honestly have done so well to avoid & resist temptations and impulse buys ❤
It's not easy, easier, but still not easy, especially since the shops are set up to produce just that reaction from us. (Smart for their business bottom line, of course.) Thanks!
