Oh my goodness. This duet is so very fabulous!
I adore the teacher part too and a fun way to breath life into this loved classic!
Do these just sit on the keys? Or are they adhered in some way?
They sit on the keys. They are not stuck on.
My teacher said that
Thanks for your videos!!! :)
I would really love to see previews of the flashcards and those sorts of resources, especially for level 3 (chord inversion and progression cards; practice strategies). Thanks!
Can an adult teach one's self how to play piano using Piano Safari, without taking formal lessons from a teacher?
Is there a goal for how much material to do for each 30-minute lesson?
A variety of Follow the Leader Pieces, Rote Pieces, and other activities are done in each lesson. With young students, changing activities frequently is very helpful.
This is absolute GOLD and SO many music teachers still “teach from the book”. It really resonates with me as I’ve been struggling to get this concept across to peeps over the last few years. I teach “music” as opposed to a specific instrument so this might be a very good book for me ❤
I am absolutely flabbergasted that the piano Safari books haven’t taken off so much that they’ve out shadowed the old-fashioned and difficult John Thompson books. I teach a “keyboard” group on a Saturday and nearly every child has turned up with a John Thompson book 🙄
Thank you so much for posting. I was looking forward to this webinar.
hi I am an Australian mum looking at this amazing method currently 24mins in - wondering whether the colours for letters are for a reason ? We have a few things in the boom whacker colours already. - Oh my!!!! this method makes so much sense. How can I find a teacher for this method in Brisbane Australia?
Zoe, so glad you are enjoying learning about Piano Safari Friends! We just chose the colors to make it more colorful! If you would like to email me at julie@pianosafari.com with your email address, I can post on our Teacher Facebook page and see if there are any Piano Safari teachers in the Brisbane area.
How does the young student practice this at home? It looks like that it might be hard for the parent to help them with practice at home unless they were also learning at the same lesson. Any suggestions?
The students can practice the Rote Pieces at home using the Reminder Videos at pianosafari.com under Videos. They may also listen to the Audio Tracks (download code provided on the title page of the book). The Follow the Leader Pieces are designed to be used mainly in the lesson, but if students would like to play them at home, we have videos for those also, which can be used with the help of a parent. However, we designed these pieces mainly to be used as musical experiences at the lesson.
@@pianosafari Thank you.
Very good question. At age 5, certainly they would appreciate songs that they can play entirely by themselves.
I have the same question. What do we assign for them to do at home, if anything?
I found my answers in the free Teacher's Guide on the website.
How do I buy a Piano Safari book
Hi, I’m looking for someone who can teach Piano Safari for my kids…we are in Virginia.. they love the pieces in the book but I don’t understand how to teach the animal techniques. (I can’t play the piano) Thank you in advance..
Very interesting!
Nice job!
You really do have students play with wrists below keys?
The flexible wrist is used in Lion Paw, as this exercise is working on arm weight. In general, the arm and wrist should be level with each other. We often teach a motion in an exaggerated way and then refine it to be more subtle. So no, in general, we absolutely do not have students play with wrists below the keys.
love it! Thank you so much Sally!
Thank you
I want those rhythm cards!
They are here: Roaring Lion, Crouching Lion pianosafari.com/teacher-resources/teacher-resources-level-1/
This might have blown my mind....
This is composed by Gurlitt? I've never heard it before!
nossa... estou completamente fascinada!!!!!!! marvilhoso!
If the books are for 6-10 years old, is it a bad idea to begin a student on book 1 if they are 10? For instance, they will outgrow the series by the time they should move on to the next levels.
Wonderful
Oh my gosh!
Who composed this?
So awesome. I love this method book
Wonderful teaching!
Awesome

So helpful, thank you Julie & Katherine!
Juan Cabeza tem um material maravilhoso...vale muito a pena
Totalmente de acuerdo! De calidad, útil, claro en la presentación, fácil de utilizar, versátil...! Qué más s epuede pedir ?
Hello there! I am new to your curriculum and am very excited to start some of my students on these! For older students, would you recommend having the student look at the music on the page? (specifically the Charlie the Chipmunk one?)
Megan. Welcome! The Rote Pieces (like Charlie Chipmunk) teach different concepts than the Reading Pieces. Rote Pieces have the benefit of memorizing instantly, developing pattern recognition at the keyboard, aural skills, etc. You can read more about our philosophy at pianosafari.com under Resources (where you can find Teacher Guides and Mini Essays). For students ages 6-9 we teach in the same way, focusing on the keyboard for Rote Pieces. As the students progress, we do start to make connections with the score (later in Level 1 and in Level 2). But for the very beginning, we may have the music on the piano so they can see the score, but we don't make reference to it. For older students ages 10 to adult, we have our series, Piano Safari for the Older Student, which uses the same pedagogy.
It would be nice to see the RH action viewed from the side also, so that the student can see the shape of the finger as it hits the key and holds it down. The side view of the LH obscures the playing finger.
