Is it perceptively delayed? Do you limit to slower songs for this effort as workaround?
If you're not too far away from the other people you're playing with (say within 1000 miles), you can play uptempo music without any problem. See our "What's Possible With FarPlay" playlist.
Thanks Dan for the thorough explanation, super exited with Farplay. I am just a Jazz Guitar aficionado, actively studying and I am so looking forward to play with other people. Keep up the good work!
Beyond the technology achievment that allowed you to do that 2,200 miles away from each other, it is a beautiful covert!! Keep up the good work!!
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I really love the app for teaching lessons, better than Zoom. The only issue is the echo on the voices when we talk. Is there a way to fix that?
Hi Markita, glad you're enjoying FarPlay! If you're hearing echo, make sure that everyone in the session is using wired headphones, not their computer speakers. That'll fix it!
@@FarPlayAppThanks so much, it really did help! Your platform is wonderful. Would love the option of overhead view of hands as well.
so you're supposed to hear your own voice in the session?
You can use FarPlay both ways (hearing your own voice in the session or not). If you use the input mixer to bring audio (like backing tracks) into the session alongside your mic audio of your voice, then, you'll hear your own voice. If you're not bringing in backing tracks, you can drag the monitor slider for your sound all the way to the left, if you prefer not to hear your own voice through FarPlay.
Thank you for the feature, @FarPlay! It’s been a joy to work, session, improvise, and teach using this magical and affordable software!
Our pleasure. Thanks for sharing how FarPlay helps you too!
Will do next week. Thanks guys! Appreciate. 👌
Thank you for the nod!
Right back at you!

An original cover- not Heroes etc - how refreshing!
Love hearing Cecile’s lovely and expressive voice singjng French lyrics! And Dan, you’re very well attuned to Cecile here, even though it appears you recorded this remotely.
Thanks! FarPlay is ultra-low-latency, so even though we were in separate locations, we were playing together in real-time and it felt basically the same as it would to record in separate booths in a recording studio.
Achieving full synchronization is key, not just because of the minimal latency, but also due to the advice I consistently give to my students. “It’s important to have the motivation, drive and momentum. And completing tasks online is a breeze”. Right? 😊
🙂
👍👌🤓
I get 100-116 Ms of delay between Tucson and Dallas tx. How is it possible to get this kind of latency? Any tips on how to cut latency?
Thank you for your question. Yes, that's a really high latency for Tuscon to Dallas. Can you first make sure that each end is connecting their computer directly to their main router (not a wireless extender router, Apple Time Capsule, or Powerline adapter, etc.) using Ethernet? Make sure no VPN is used. Could you share what kind of internet service (example: fiber or cable) and what kind of computer (Mac or Windows) each end is using? Thanks!
Interesting following my recent interaction with Dan, as I remember Diana well from her stay in Scotland in I think the early 2000’s. A small world made even smaller!
I like it !
Thanks Bernd!
Does Farplay have an official Discord server ?
Thank you for your question. We currently don't have an official Discord server, but we'll let you know if we start one!
P.S. We invite you to visit our support forum at farplay.io/forum/, which is the fastest way to get tech support from us!
sounds great !
Very nice playing. FarPlay looks interesting. I'd briefly met Martin before Covid (probably Callander Jazz Festival) but didn't get to know him until lockdown and Jamulus. It really was a bit of life saver in that dreary period. I shall have a look at FarPlay.
cool!
how does farplay differ from jamulus? does farplay scale for large ensambles? how much latency?
FarPlay transmits data peer-to-peer (vs. Jamulus's hub-and-spoke approach) and transmits uncompressed audio (vs. compressed Opus audio in Jamulus). FarPlay has built-in video (Jamulus doesn't have video). FarPlay has a mixer for bringing in more than 2 channels from an audio interface (but each instance of Jamulus brings in only up to 2 channels of audio). Depending on musicians' internet connections, ensembles of around 8 participants are possible (we know of a group of 10 that meets regularly). Even though FarPlay has been tested with 8 Mbit/s of upload speed, we recommend at least 50 Mbit/s of upload speed. My friend (New York) and I (New Jersey) can easily get sub-10 ms one-way estimated latency. We're both on Verizon FiOS. With good connections, sub-40 ms latencies are possible between New York and San Francisco. There's more latency with cable internet than with fiber optic internet. Cheers!
@@FarPlayApp great! have compared using jamulus?
Yes, I (David) have used both FarPlay and Jamulus. With Jamulus, someone needs to set up/rent a server (unless you use one of the public servers). FarPlay can use native Windows audio devices natively (don't need to set up ASIO4ALL).
@@FarPlayApp ok. some difference in sound quality/latency?
If you have sensitive enough ears, you might notice the difference between the compressed Opus audio Jamulus uses and the uncompressed PCM audio on FarPlay. The hub-and-spoke approach of Jamulus will have higher latency (audio has to get from a user, to the server, and then to another user rather than directly from user to user).
Best wishes from the FarPlay team to everyone for a happy new year filled with lots of music making!
Right back at you guys! You changed our lives for the better!!! I've been teaching online and cannot imagine life without FarPlay!!! Thank you so much!
Thanks! This makes us so happy to hear!
❤️🎄❤️🎄❤️🎄
nice
Thanks Bernd!
Hi Dan! Thanks for the FarPlay! It's awesome possibility for dedicated musicians! I have one quick question: Is it possible to restrict any recording from the other side? Thanks in advance for your any answer!
I’ve used far play and we did everything the instructions told us to do and even connected Ethernet and nothing helped we can barely hear one another
Sorry for the trouble. Please, can you email our team at support@farplay.io so we can help you?
So do we have to have a zoom session going at the same time to have video?
No! FarPlay has had built-in low-latency video for quite some time now.
Im a studio drummer. A friend of mine is an engineer who lives 30 only minutes away, but we still cant find time to get together, set up, tear down, tune...etc. When I record, I like to see and speak with the engineer while tracking. So is there a way for me to give him 8 mic signals separately via Farplay? (He will also need to send them to his daw later for post production) If so, this will save us a lot of travel time.
Hi Jason, we're trying to keep our user experience as friendly as possible, and for that reason, for now we only send stereo. Sending multi-track is something we've been considering for a while, but we have some other features that we think are more important to more people that we're working on first.
@@DanTepferMusic thanks for the reply. Stereo can definitely work for some applications. Especially for oberdubs of live concerts.
@@JasonWelchMusic Happy to help. Enjoy!
Can’t wait to try this.
🙂
This seems truly game changing, could we get a demo with some music with a little stricter rhythm? This would be great for jamming over chords, but I'm not convinced it can handle a drummer and a guitar player trying to tighten up a section in a rock and roll tune.
Hi Jesse, this depends entirely on distance. For very demanding rhythmic situations, you want 20ms or less latency, equivalent to being 20ft or less apart. I suggest you try it and see! It's free.
is this this broadcast audio ? super !
Hey Bernd, this wasn't a live stream so Dan simply clicked "record multitrack" in FarPlay and mixed the audio afterwards. There are lots of examples of FarPlay's Broadcast Audio feature being used for live concerts in front of livestream audiences on Dan's TH-cam channel th-cam.com/users/DanTepferMusicvideos?view=2&live_view=503
Why activate publicity on this promotional video of your product. It only adds noise and may discourage few viewers :-P Your product seems to have lot of potential. (Y)
Hi Sarge, we have monetization off for our channel. I'm not sure why you're being shown ads - it isn't our intention. Having looked into it, it seems like TH-cam can place ads on videos even if the content creator has turned monetization off, so I guess we need to change platforms.
Excellent!
:-)
How many musicians can together at the sametime
For now (as of Feb 2022), FarPlay is for one-to-one sessions only, but we will be adding multi-user capability very soon.
Kristin ?? What a great vocalist ! Such a great unique voice......where / how can I find her recordings ?
She has a number of records - you can find them in the usual places by searching for her name, Kristin Berardi
BTW: We use a small remote mixer connected to our laptop computer for this.
