Living aboard a sailboat is not an easy life. I don't know why anyone would want to limit himself in that way. So doing, does not free one from the reach of governments, taxes, laws, or other constraints. It is an additional constraint and a severe one. To maintain a boat is hard work. Something always needs attention, repair, maintenance, replacement. The work most often is tedious, arduous, challenging. It requires hard effort, skill, knowledge, and time. It is expensive. Replacements are costly. Sailboats not used for a livelihood, fishing or transportation, are owned by people with money, people who can afford to pay for the expensive materials that have to make up a sea-going vessel. There is a saying often repeated, "The two happiest days of my life have been the day a bought a sailboat and the day I sold it."
