      @@cr2378 thanks for that comment, you sound like you not only are a master player, but one that goes out of their way to help other players. As you may have missed from the title, it was merely an audition. If you are unaware of the concept I would like to help you. It is what you do BEFORE you are accepted to the school where you then will learn, grow, and become better. Hello Mike, nice play with you jazz guitar assignment! I already enrolled for the jazz guitar 101 for next semester, but I am not sure whether I can handle to enrol for another guitar course at berklee online and study at the same time (they are having early enrolment savings for a lot of guitar course that's why I am considering also enrol for another one). Just want to have an idea of what level of intensity of jazz guitar 101 is, is this course alone will keep you busy enough? Do you think enrolling in another course at the same time such as rhythm and groove guitar will get me too busy and overwhelmed? Through the timeline of your posted videos on youtube, I found out generally you took two courses at the same time but only one for the jazz guitar 101, I am assuming this one requires more time to put into? Thanks for your reply!

      @@wuzhexi4845 I am not a jazz guitar player. So with that, jazz 101 was the 2nd hardest class I took at Berklee….but I learned a bunch! Rhythm and groove guitar was a fantastic course, but it will take some work to lock in those right hand techniques. I took 2 classes a semester and while challenging, it was completely doable. Also, almost all of the rhythm and groove assignments are on my channel!! Cheers!

    hello Mike, I really like your postings of these guitar course assignments, it gives me an overview of what each of these course teach, I just finished the blues guitar course this semester and am considering my next course, do you think classic rock guitar course is harder than blues guitar? Can you share what the Berklee critique was? Seems pretty spot on with the BMW version from Abraxas. Tone is good, sustain is good, vibrato spot on. all the things that I think make a Carlos piece a Carlos piece. Very good attention to detail IMO.

    • @MikeArwineGuitar
      @MikeArwineGuitar 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @Billvill61 I honestly don’t know what the criteria was. I did the interview, letters of recommendation, and the audition and then I just waited and hoped. Looking back at that audition now, it had a lot of room for improvement. I think they want someone who has a foundation but is able to learn and grow. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not speaking for the audition team, I have absolutely no idea what they are looking for. There is nothing that I have seen that lays out specifically what they are looking for. Your guess is as good as mine. I believe I just happened to get lucky. I am older, and already had college with good grades that showed on my transcript so I’m sure that helped as well.

    This is lovely playing - but I do understand the ‘all it takes comments’ NOT because this playing wasn’t great!!! But because some amazing cats have been turned down… Tim Henson of Polyphia was rejected from Berklee! And that is quite odd in context

      @@MikeArwineGuitar the examiners might have some kind of ideological hard-edge stance against scalar, non-melodic shred, which is what Tim was doing a lot back then. It’s still crazy to think based on his sheer skill level even as a teenager I don’t think you lucked out! Rather, they made a mistake declining Tim and they should’ve had both of you!

  • @selfactualizer2099
    @selfactualizer2099 ปีที่แล้ว

    I dont have anything against this guy, But the comments are hilarious, If almost every top comment is painstakingly defending (an audition) something is obviously wrong here, and im about to point it out First, complimenting an audition is like complementing someone for having good posture while doing pushups An audition is: you play and show the ends of your abilities, while showing where you need to work on things, A song thats difficult, but not out of your range. Thats what you should choose. Choosing a beginner song and just playing it clearly isnt really what an audition is for. Congrats you played the song correctly And i really need to add, youre all saying he played it "so amazingly" but honestly, there was a ton of mistakes through this video. The tremelo picking was hilarious, i didnt think that part would be difficult for him Aw i really dont want to offend the uploader, its the comments that are making me cringe. I dont really see anyone insulting this guy, just an army of probably terrible guitarists defending him profusely Probably, and likely because they know there was a lot of mistakes here And thats really ok, the instructors want to see where you need work However gwtting accepted for a beginner level song is a little weird, i will say, But if he can read sheet music, and complete all his assignments, he should be fine in music school Really i think schools should be set up in a way that anyone can come and benefit, without an audition, i think auditions should be reserved for real jobs. If someone is terrible at playing, i think they should still have a right to attend. Lots of terrible beginners became great musicians , Infact all great musicians were terrible beginners I forgot about what i was talking about Ohhh yeah, all the whiney defender boys on this comment thread are very likely terribly bad at guitar, they thought this was a great cover, im certain even the guy who uploaded this video new there was a ton of space to perform this wayyyyy way better
