Mini Model World gives you the tools to craft away the worries of your day and find happiness and peace in the small things.
I started www.minimodelworld.com in early 2021 as a way to do something positive with my two children during lockdown in the UK. In between homeschooling we made miniature accessories, fairy gardens, and renovated a broken down dollhouse.
I've learnt so much about DIY dollhouse renovating and making tiny things through trial and error so I wanted to share my experience on this channel. I thought making miniatures would be mindful and in many ways it is, but it's also often frustrating and fiddly!
One of the things I've enjoyed working on most is renovating a dollshouse with my daughter Joni. We stripped it back to bare wood and then had great fun choosing wallpaper, paint and flooring. We're now in the process of adding furniture and accessories!
On this channel you'll find advice and information on making small things.

How To Remove Dollhouse Carpet - DIY Dollhouse Tips

Today I'm going to show you the easy way to remove dollhouse carpet. My dollhouse had been stored in a garage for many years and the carpet smelt very musty. I am so grateful for coming across this video!!!If Of course, I subscribed and cannot wait to watch more of your videos!

Love the floor
You are so like me. I would have been struggling with that door just like you .
What do you think white sprits is in the US?
Hello, you make it look so easy. Unfortunately I am having trouble copying and pasting an element to fill the page. When I select copy I am unable to paste the element to the side as you show in your video. It will paste underneath the copied element. Is there a page setting to enable sideways copying.
ty😊😁😄😃😀
Oow thankyou!
What is the measurement of the rooms
Очень красиво,,🇹🇯👍👍👍
I loved your video. I too am just starting this world of dollhouses. I know I will be facing many challenges, but you gave me hope. You didn't give up. I look forward to seeing your dollhouse as you progress.
All great suggestions! That table protector would also make a lovely kitchen ceiling, for a tin ceiling look. 😊
I 100% agree with you. Hardly any flooring is showing once the room is furnished. You saved yourself a lot of precious time. It looks pretty in my opinion
really rather frustrating as you are saying click on elements here. but I cannot see where you are clicking
I love this video! So often we only see a before and after online, but not all the bumps in the road. I really appreciate that you acknowledge the cost of supplies (maybe they’re not expensive for professional content creators, but for most of us, it’s a hobby and resources are limited) and the emotions that come with “wasting” something expensive or valuable time. I have felt so silly getting frustrated and almost tearful at the simple little dollhouse I’m building (that was SUPPOSED to be inexpensive, but I think I’ve put about $50 into it now). The biggest part of the problem, I think, is having time and space limits, as well as constraints from my disability, but some of it is that I see all the successes of others who make it look easy, but not all the failures that led up to the successes or the advantages others may have (different tools available, different budgets, steady hands and a better grip, and, probably most importantly, experience!). I really appreciate your honesty and willingness to share not just your finished work, but the challenging journey to get there. I feel like the next time I work on my dollhouse, I’ll be able to laugh off more of my mistakes more instead of taking them to heart and becoming discouraged. Thank you!
Thank you for such an easy way to make a teepee that is gorgeous x
Thank you for the run through all of the different floors!
so Glad I found your videos, fabulous ideas!!!! Many thanks!
Do you have a Facebook?
I don't unfortunately, it's also about a year since I uploaded anything😬
Building 1:48 (or O scale, in railroad world) model of townhouse, and did nice parquet floor using tiny coffee stirrers: Using cutting matt with rule lines and 45° layout lines, lay coffee stirrers one by one next to each other along the 45° keeping their bottoms aligned horizontally. Lay about 5 at a time down with right hand while pressing them close to close up all gaps. Start pressing along bottom til fit is tight, then press on a piece of clear tape. Inch along, pressing out gap then pressing strips of tape across that 1st section of 5 stirrers til you've taped planks all the way up to ends. Then start again pressing another 5 or so stirrers against this 1st set of 5, and against each other, til you've got about 12 or 13 planks tightly bonded side-by-side. Flip the planks over so untaped side is up, and taped side is down. Now apply strip of Gorilla Tape to entire plank set, burnishing tape down tightly into permanently bonded backing for this section of planks. Flip over to clear taped side, and remove all clear tape. Repeat all of the above steps to make a SECOND set of planks the SAME WIDTH but with stirrers slanted 45° in OPPOSITE DIRECTION. Now, you're going to mark out 1/2 inch slices ACROSS EACH SET OF PLANKS so that you get diagonal sections of each of the two opposite sets of planks, so that, when a slice from one is aligned with a slice from the other, you get your chevron parquet pattern. Just keep laying out alternate slices butted up tightly together along their edges. Once you've made enough plank sections, and sliced them into enough alternating chevron pairs to cover your intended dollhouse floor space, make a slightly oversized graph paper template of that space to do a final tape-down on. You're going to entirely cover that graph paper template in strips of double-sided tape spaced about 1/2 inch apart. Then, using the lines to keep squared along a verticle edge, transfer each chevron slice onto the double-sided taped template, butting top edge of one section close up to bottom of previous one, vertically along lefthand side of template. Then, starting at top, lay the alternate matching slice close up to the 1st slice, onto the tape, but use butt end of steel ruler to nudge edges closer and close all gaps before really pressing slice down onto the taped template. Repeat each verticle section, like writing in Chinese--nudging and closing top/bottom gaps as well as side-by-side gaps as you go-- til entire template is covered. Trim off extraneous chevron points from edges to square off your floor. You can now sand, fill, stain, in whatever order you prefer. Finish with sealer of your choice. Do any final trim of edges to accommodate whatever fireplaces, walls, etc. exist on your layout, then lay your flooring in place (before or after the finishing, etc.). It took less time for me to do than it did to type it out! Hopefully, you could visualize process. But if anyone here requests, I'd be happy to take a few pics next time I make parqiet and post them.. of okay with the hostess. Also, I've customized this for my needs but it's based on a process I saw on TH-cam by a set designer who's name escapes me now but who I will look up and site here at another time (once again, if okay with host).
Omgg tysmm ur a genius ❤
A Roman blind would be nice made out of the striped place mat, also the most expensive one would look good on the ceiling
We have the same dolls house (plus spongey carpets). I have decided to make the stairwell into hallways and landings by moving the inner left vertical wall with the intention of adding interior doors… now I realise I have to dismantle the entire house… so your tutorials are very useful!
I stumbled across this video but I am so happy I did - I have several rooms in my dollshouse and 3 sets of stairs with the spongey carpet which I scraped until my arms ached but with little impact. Thank you!
Thank you, Sara for this video. Using everyday items is the best thing to do for doll house flooring, as you can have many options. 1) drawer liners are great because they are sticky on the bottom... I have used this in the floor on dollhouse bathrooms and walls. 2) fabric placemats work well also- I like them in dollhouse dining rooms and family rooms 3) Here in the US I go to home repair stores such as Home Depot or Lowes. They give you a sample of tile for you to take home to see if you want to purchase it. I use the sample to make doll house bathrooms and/or dollhouse showers. 4) Coasters come in different materials- I have used coasters made of cork and they make great flooring for dollhouses. 5) Cardboard- I get cardboard and create my own design on it. Then I glue it to the dollhouse floor with E6000 glue. 6) Pillow cases- Sometimes when I find a pillowcase pattern I like, I use that as the flooring. I just fold it over twice to give it the thickness I want for the floor and it makes it interchangeable. 7) Old bathroom rugs that I cut down to fit my dollhouse. 8) Black foam board and I glue on it different patterns- It makes great kitchens for your dollhouse. 8) At the Dollar Store they sell cabinet liner that is sticky and only $1.25- It makes great flooring and/or wall paper for your dollhouse. 9) A bath towel is great in a dollhouse for the living room rug. I love the bath towel as it has the perfect thickness for a living room rug. 10) For the patio of your dollhouse, I go outside and collect little rocks and pebbles. I wash them off. Let them dry. Once dry I can glue them in any pattern or shape I want and add them to my dollhouse. 11) For my dollhouse balcony, I had some grass runner (which I had purchased years ago for my Alice In Wonderland BD themed party), and I cut some of the grass runner down and put it on my dollhouse balcony. It was sooo pretty and reminded me of New Orleans here in the US. I added little pots with flowers and my dollhouse balcony looked like a "secret garden". 12) Sometimes I just want to paint a dollhouse floor, so I go to my friendly neighborhood Walmart and buy a can of spray paint for $5.98. That is a cheap way to do it also. Using spray paint I have to tape down areas so my dollhouse walls do not get paint on them. I always check to make sure the spray paint has a primer in it and is oil based so it will stick well to whatever surface I am utilizing as I like to build my Barbie dollhouses from bottom up. I usually build my Barbie dollhouse with cardboard and MDF. I also build them for my friend's grandchildren. The kids love them as I build them specificaly for them and they are OOAK. I am an old lady now, and it is a relaxing hobby for me. Thank you and I enjoyed your video.
This was so helpful. We are really tight on money and doing up a dollhouse my grandad made me when I was little for my daughter to use. I remembered I had a fabric table runner just like the placemat you showed and it's perfect. Thank you 🥰
Oh my gosh, this couldn’t be more clear and helpful! Thanks a bunch!
Yeah, it's a sad mess!
Hi there, I just wanted to say how nice it is to see a local gal (UK resident) doing dollshouse videos on here! I've been doing TH-cam for some years now (wackiwear) and like you, I've always wanted to show folk when things go wrong, just to show them that none of us are perfect 😁 I don't know if you watch other folks channels, but I try to give lots of tips as much as possible, so maybe if you flick through any of mine, it might help you for ideas to continue your journey and pick up the odd tip here and there, as I love trying to help others in this magical miniature world we create. Hope you're still enjoying YOUR journey! 🙏😁 Keep safe Richard
Never seen one like that design before! Do you think it's home made? Maybe keeping it in the '70's style maybe a selling point? Picked up my dollshouse from FB marketplace too, didnt realise it would be so heavy, my chap was suffering from a slipped disc so struggled on my own, used my shopping trolley's wheels without the bag in the end😂
I feel your pain. I thought dolls house/miniatures would be gentle & relaxing too, that doesn't happen very often yet....😁
I actually like this video because no one shows the “mistakes”. This way i can avoid extra pains. Thanks!
Excellent ideas. Shelf liner works so well. I might try some vinyl backsplash peel and stick tile, too. Thank you.
I Have a doll house from around 1930. Ish. Bubbles in the glass windows. This is how old it is. Serious collectors only. Thanks 4 yur input. God bless the queen of England.
Very useful, thank u so much
Thanks for sharing. It's like sewing - There is always a point (or two) where it is better to step away and come back later rather than continue on in frustration!
I had to do a google search for the website that you were using as I had trouble hearing what you were calling it, I found it and love it, for now I am just using the free version as I have a lot on my plate but once I am ready to design the wallpaper for my 1-12 scale dollhouse being built from scratch I may just get the pro-version. Thanks for sharing 🤗🤗
😹😹the pre-printed wall paper if the writing is left on by mistake as long as it’s either at the bottom or top of the wall it can be cover with the skiting board or the ceiling cornice and so it will cover it up nicely. I have been using scrap book paper but I buy from a scrapping booking shop as they have bulk copies of the sheets. I like the thicker sheets as it makes easier to paste up and put on the walls, but I have found that I need to use matte mod podge to go over the top of them to protect the surface of the papers for ware and tare but it also makes it wipe clean as well.
Great tips, I've discovered origami paper recently and this works really well as wallpaper
The table protector would work well as a copper ceiling panels, once painted in a copper colour. When I go shopping I’m always in the lookout for things that I can use for a dollhouse for a 1-12 scale plus a 1-24. But I have never thought of the table mats for use in a dollhouse lol, will have to look in the kitchen shop next time I’m in the city🤗 Thanks for sharing🤗🤗
Great idea with the ceiling panels!
That’s me raiding shops for thin coasters 😂😂
A fine craft felt makes wonderful carpet for a dollhouse.
Wow that’s adorable
Omg subscribed! 😍
Girllll...I feel your pain. 🤣🤣🤣I love you. I've been working on my dollhouse for 7 years. 🤣🤣🤣 it looks great
Great Ideas, thanks for sharing. Placemats make good flooring too, they come in so many fun patterns.
