I could not disagree more. This is not a sustainable way to run a business. Trends are trends for a reason. They fade into obscurity. If you’re a financier who always wanted to open a coffee shop, you should not rely on baristas for that. That’s how you get cookie cutter cafes. As time goes on you’ll be saturated by other espresso bars and other companies ripping from the same recipe book that every barista uses. Then you’re in trouble. Is it easier to open a cafe? Yes. Should you delegate the job of curating a coffee program to a group of baristas when you yourself have no vision or industry experience? No.

they dont make money on the coffee? Coffee is extremely cheap even the best . Ambiance and marketing and customer experience makes the difference. coffee itself is extremely overpriced at cafes but again ambiance and customer experience has an added value. every successful business sells cheap products packaged well.

Who told you coffee was a “low margin business”? You can source high quality beans from Colombia for $15 per kilo. That includes shipping and port fees. You get about 45 cups of coffee per kilo. 45 cups at $3 per cup is $135. It is far from a low margin business. If you have enough customers, you’re making money hand over fist.

depends on how you calculate it. The raw cost of the coffee is just a few cents, but you also need someone to actually prepare the coffee, maintanance of the machines so those are more expensive than the actual coffee. So it depends on the wage of the barista etc
