Chris Cuttriss - Mr Soul (Buffalo Springfield Cover)
มุมมอง 98ปีที่แล้ว
This version was inspired by the Rush cover of the Buffalo Springfield song "Mr Soul" on the "Feedback" CD. I interpolated the motif from "Xanadu" by Rush in the lead guitar parts. Not for monetary gain; all production/engineering/instrumentation by Chris Cuttriss.

    me and my partner used to go into the white swan in chesterfield every Sunday night, on entering one night it was packed out and i found out it was because Brian and his band were playing that evening, i mistakenly thought that the amount of people there meant i was in for a musical treat, boy oh boy was i wrong, though i never stopped laughing the whole evening made even funnier by one of Brian's fans telling me that Brian believed he was a great singer.

      This one was before I stopped taking as much gear on the road, I have got a VOX stack for the guitar on this but it was huge and heavy so I stripped it all down eventually to make the workload less, it was a huge job to transport, set up and strip down and I was largely doing it all on my own as well as at least 2 hours on stage, sometimes as many as 3. A lot of hard work involved in it all.

    Well said mate it was the gutter band that treated Brian poorly.

    • @chriscuttriss
      @chriscuttriss 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately circumstances changed the whole Brian & the Pit Props dynamic and my/our only option was to join The Gutterband simply to make a living; Brian was never an initial component of the deal I struck when Glenn and I joined them, but when he DID come in to the equation, it was largely beyond my control anymore. Whereas I had always stuck up for Brian and ensured he was treated fairly and with respect when the Pit Props saga was in full flow, the Gutterband was purely a money-making entity and the fun and camaraderie we had in the Pit Props was completely swamped by greed and disrespect. A shame, but that was the way it was and the modus operandi of those people running the Gutterband's "corporate strategy". That was the reason I quit in 1992 after 400+ gigs I did with them.

      I never contrived it. It just mushroomed from me on an acoustic guitar having a laff WITH Brian, not AT Brian, with a few of my mates. 6 months later every single WMC/MW in N Derbyshire had broken all bar takings records. Grassmoor was just one of many. Brian was an enigma and had the ability to entertain people, no matter what the critics said about it all. It was, fun. Pure and simple.

      It was only ever intended as an experimental production to iron out a few engineering issues. This last master though stands up quality-wise due again to Sonarworks' processing/headphone calibration. It would not be a song I would put on any "album", but it has good moments.

    This one carries off so well the deceit of the blissfully light FM feel; like a warm sunny day, hiding the true nature of the content of the lyrics; the Butcher Bird, that SHE is and carries away the theme of the Love Illusion aspect of this portion of the album! Excellent creative work!

      Of all the songs on the Pterodactyl collection, despite it's length and complexity, this was the easiest to complete-I reckon I spent 10 TIMES more hours producing Renegade, the shortest track on the collection! So if that equation adds up, the longer the song = the easier the production process!!! Non-sequitur but nevertheless a quirky paradox. Sacrificed started out as a "Trilogy" where the mid section starts (the part where I am doing the scat singing against the guitar line), I originally was going to call that part two "The Phantom Centre" - the phantom centre being a very mysterious concept in audio engineering - it is basically that sound in stereo is emitting from a left and right sound source, yet our brains interpret the sound as summing and emanating from the centre point of the stereo image...wacky eh? Anyroad up, enough of the Carl Sagan, the final part three of the trilogy starts at the key shift to F#, and is entitled "Manifesto Of Madness", because when I originally worked on all those guitar parts, I just kept riffing away one riff after another, each previous riff having a relationship to the previous one that was instinctively derived...so in the end I had a huge manifesto of madness to make sense of, a bit like Brexit lol

      I keep trying to placate your Blues-lust but it is kind of outside my remit except in a very fringe-fashion...there are aspects of the blues in this and a lot of my other tunes but I am no blues purist and when I try to sound like a blues impersonator I end up cracking up laffing at my ineptitude so I just stick to what I know which is often loud raucous rock bordering on Metal but not quite-the Everly Brothers-type vocal harmonies often pull the sound back from descending into Heavy Metal monotony I hope at least. Not that I don't like "Heavy Metal", but once that noose tightens around your creative neck it is a difficult extrication process...I try to incorporate a lot of my influences like Budgie and even the Nuge still permeates even though me and him had a tiff as ya know :-)
