eco Walking Meditation: Trash Cleanup Exercise
มุมมอง 31ปีที่แล้ว
Part of my art practice is to clean up trash I find left in the landscape. To me it is a meditative practice, to deepen our awareness of our relationship to/within nature and the land. * Just an additional note on the 'Plastic Bags and Gloves' shown in this video: It isn't desirable to generate waste, while intending to clean up waste. The plastic bags and gloves shown are compostable bio-plast...

    I have read so many places that you can not use masking fluid over an already dry oil painting surface, but, I just watched you do it! Did you remove the masking fluid in a few minutes, hours, days ??? What worked?? I am using very thin SPRAY paint that is just rustoleum 2x cover-- very common in hardware stores. I have decanted( taken ALL the spray paint out of the cans and de gassed them, by letting it sit for days)! I have used this paint in 2 ways, through an airbrush( worked very well!!) and just painted with a brush and it worked with no problem! The idea of decanting IS-- to be able to use the spray paint in a THINNER manner( as spray cans shoot a LOT out in large volumes ) With this NOW thinner solvent based paint---- would the masking fluid work? I have very small areas that need to be done( small as a dime size of smaller!) ANY ideas or info would greatly appreciated, thanks for this video it does give me a lot more confidence it could work!!

    Can this be used as a transparent watercolor ground, like a fixative?

    • @katpaints
      @katpaints 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It does seal the paper somewhat but I’m not sure if it would allow for painting watercolor over something not absorbent. It would be interesting to experiment with that.

    • @zacskinnerartprof370
      @zacskinnerartprof370 ปีที่แล้ว

      I second what Kathleen said. You can paint with watercolor on top of this gelatin ground. You do lose some of the absorbency of the paper. But if you are asking if you can apply it as a sort of fixative layer, you may be able to spray it while it's warm, and that in theory would create a transparent fixed layer (although I might recommend looking into casein fixative with a grain alcohol vehicle, because the alcohol won't activate the watercolor, and it would sort of do the same thing... Brushing it over would likely re-activate the watercolor paint, because there is water in the gelatin mixture.

    Heyy Zac. Why is it that when I do it, the ink falls to the bottom of the water and does not remain on the surface?

    • @zacskinnerartprof370
      @zacskinnerartprof370 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Isabella, I can say that there is a lot of variation in sumi inks, and I would stick with a name brand sumi ink that has been around, and is very consistent. I used Yasutomo Sumi Ink, and recommend that as a pure, consistent one... Sometimes an ink can be marketed as sumi, but not have the traditional binders and pigment, and that could effect whether the ink floats. Many non-sumi inks do sink to the bottom (but you can find some that will float). India ink for example sinks right away. One other possibility is touch- touch the surface of the water very delicately so as not to break through the water's surface tension.
