Wondering if you’ve ever heard Andy Weir tell the story of how he originally published The Martian? It was free on his website. People asked for an easier way to read it, so (I think) he made a pdf or something. Then people asked for an ebook version. So he did that. But then people wanted an Amazon version so it was easier to get on their kindle. He was giving it away for free, but people would rather pay Amazon for it. That story was in my mind when you were talking about people preferring Amazon.

Love the narrator advice. As a non native English speaker I recognize the non contraction and cadence thing. Another entertaining and informative episode. The outfits are fun.

I so get Kirt his like wtf with a new narrator in the middle of the series. Oh wow and then the work on his jump in a new series. Maz, great that you have a good start in the new series.

I’m almost through the book. It’s great! I predicted something to a friend (Madame Askew) and boy did you deliver!

We started using ebooks when we counted and found we had 17 bookshelves and were running out of space

So, Kirt and Maz, this will be a long comment. One, my husband and I enjoyed V-Rising. So fun until we hit a wall where we couldn't defeat a boss. Onto mm romance. I'm a baby author, having published my novel on July 30th of this year. It was a long time in the making. I spent almost two years writing and promoting myself. I am an ownvoice author who LOVES the genre. I wanted more big boys to be represented as positive, instead a lot of what I've read. I've noticed a lot of authors jumping on the big boys band wagon, and I think some are doing it because it's new, a fresh market to tap, and that leaves guys like me in the dust of trying to get my name out there. I have been told people can feel the heart and soul I put into my stories. These stories reflect the life I've lived, the dreams I've had, and some things I wish I could have and be. They are me. I know it's getting bigger, and I only have one book out, but I plan to stick around. My second is with my Beta readers, my short story for an anthology is with my editor, and I'm working on a novella that should be ready for edits by December. I do A LOT of my own marketing. It's exhausting, but I need to. If I'm going to sell enough to supplement my teaching salary, I need to do something that doesn't mean getting a second job where I have to do it on a schedule. I can do this on my time. A.I. What can I say. I've been told using ProwritingAid is using A.I. and shouldn't be allowed. I use it for my horrible grammar. It helps me tighten my sentences so I save time and money with an editor. I'm not great with grammar (even though I have a history degree) because it's not the same as writing a novel. I'm learning though, and ProwritingAid is finding fewer and fewer things it needs to help me with. I love podcast and adore both of you. I'm here for the long haul with you. Cheers.

Part of the reason I chose my pen name (which there is a story behind), is that it's the only one I've seen spelled this way. So much so, if you put it in Amazon, they will autocorrect to Joel. haha.

I love your podcast. Also, if my book ever gets a chance to become an audiobook, Kirt is my first choice. No question. (If I don't get him, I won't tell the one who does it that Kirt was my first choice). But I honestly hear Kirt's voice when I read sections of my book. I know, I'm weird, and a big fanboy. :)

The only trope/story beat that I really really can't get behind betrayal between the protagonists. Even worse if the betrayer changes their mind and tries to stop the consequences but it happens anyways. It's almost an automatic dnf for me. I have to have a friend vouch that it's done in a way I won't mind to read one with that trope 😅 I love your podcast, thank you both so much for your hard work on it ❤

I agree about good reads. I m too private. I used to note paragraphs to keep track of where I was and now they publish them as something I especially notice. Ick

I agree about not releasing all the WIP chapters. I love being able to read Steal the Key WIP chapters, but I would like to save some for the release -can't wait! About GR and other book reviewing spaces, I use them to track my reading and to check what other people with similar taste are reading (for my reference). I read negative and positive reviews and they really help me decide what I'm going to read next (there are so many books I want to read, I need to prioritise xD). Gonna check the anime, apparently 'Baby Reindeer' is under discussion about if the end is really based on real facts1 I jumped back into Dr. Who again after missing the Peter and part of Jodi's period and find it okay. I might some info, but I do not mind that.. Maz & Kirt enjoy your days off.

OMG, yes to the hate channel! I watch that channel too and also yell at the screen for the same reason! Agree it’s much better recently but sometimes the rooms look beautiful even when things are a little problematic
