For all the officials commenting both good and bad comments, yes this is at least a 2 minute penalty and potentially a 10 minute misconduct which is what was handing out. The issue is not with the call that I have from the official its with the lack of other officiating skill this head official or the other members of his team presented. This is rep level hockey and therefore these are players that know the game and you can speak to that will understand when you talk to them. At three second of this clip this player is already tapping his stick on the ice you as the official are behind him can read his name and number, why is there not a verbal penalty issued here? A simple firm "Geary that's enough." or "Hey One Three drop it." gets you out of this spot with no penalty and the other team knows you saw it dealt with this initially and will increase action as it continues. Instead, we let him come in tapping his stick then watch him talk to number 4, which I'm sure was only pleasant conversation, then not till he has already left that situation and committed the third 2 minute offense do we upgrade to a misconduct out of the gate.
