These are great workhorses the B81 BullDog Mack’s 250 with a quad box nothing like it those gear boxes you can do a lot of different work with them especially curb pouring with a mixer truck

Listen to the spring loaded seats lol . The cab in those B models was tiny and the roof was just above your head so sometimes those spring loaded seats would send you smashing your head on the roof when you were bouncing around on a job site. Terrible on the back too but a real beautiful looking truck. Like a Tonka truck when I was a kid. I learned how to drive a truck on a 1967 B-81 10 wheel dump with this quadbox transmission. It was impossible to comprehend and I never thought I'd figure it out until one day it just clicked. When I went to take the road test to get my license, having been driving it for like 6 months, the registry cop that came along for the ride was dumbfounded. He never saw anything like it before. No clutch most of the time, strictly listening to the rpm's to shift her, feathering the peddle to bring the rpm's to the perfect place where the sticks would just glide right in and the 2 sticks were impressive to watch. He had my license written out before I left the yard hahaha. Thanks for the video and nice driving.
When I was a kid my farther drove a B 81 Mack dump truck I loved it What big loads of sand gravel go about 30- 40 mph and any hill 5 - 10 mph. Shift ALL the time. That's 50 years ago. Those where pretty trucks.

I'ma gunna b honest. Yeah. My first truck was the same beast in a '67. I am now sitting comfortably in the rear of a 2021 T680 in Mid Alberta. It's a chore and a skill to switch them gears and I did it. It's much nicer to pay attention to the idiot drivers around me. Things have changed a lot since '66

В остальном наш автопром и по сей день в жопе мира! Да и к стати Рогозин вместе с ними, который засодил всю нашу космонавтику.

My old had a H model mack with a 15 speed triplex we called it Honey mack he drove it till fell apart.wow my dad is 84 years old he was and will always be the best at the two sticks.

You can scoff at that all you want. If you have the opportunity to drive any two stick [two transmissions], get your ass in that truck. You'll end up addicted to it because YOU actually have "driver input" and what you input makes a difference because its challenging. You'll change your tune; I fuckin promise you'll have fun, AND once you get good at it, you'll skip gears. Then you'll go get in your automatic or auto-shift and be rite disgusted with it.
@@iBackshift These blokes don’t know anything about trucks... those old twin sticks would help these trucks pull big big loads up giant hills and not complain..... 4 positions per gear.... beasts of transmissions multiplying all the power from the Thermodyne Mack Engine. That coupled to a high ratio rear end and some Mack toploader axles and camelback suspension.... Pulling power at it’s finest! Sure it wasn’t fast, but the trucks could pull anything and the B81 was the most powerful and toughest Road Tractor out there!!!
@@iBackshift Years ago a truck driver told me he loved the old Mack Quadruplex and the 5x4 in the other trucks, because you had a gear for every speed.

It broke my heart to see it and one day I stopped to see it. A B Model Wrecker with a quad box sitting in a repair shop lot used to block an entrance at the Cranbury Circle in NJ I haven't been past there in years now but it must be a rare find if the right person cane along with the money to restore the old truck.

This is why every truck now is automatic: machine can make itself go with half'o'range disused. I call those guys "mountain bikers", cause they just keep playing with low-range, when you can pull to cruising speed in 3..
