    Our extension service recommends removing all flower buds the first year to increase the growth of the plants. Over the next year or two, the plant will more than make up for the “lost” year of production. Same goes for most perennial berries. Nice and concise videos. Thank you!

      Thats interesting... I think I'll give it a shot on some of my strawberries and see the difference. I'll report back :D

    I green stock value wise is the Best Buy as given there is so much more one can do. I purchased 3 green stalks with rolling bases, freeze covers, pest covers, water reservoir covers, seeds, and fertilizers for $634 during their Black Friday sale and the use of an affiliate code.

    Great video! I want to get a Garden Tower but am def not a fan of the cost. I am curious. Do you get cold winters? If so, how have your worms doing? Edit: Disregard. I just read you are in Zone 10a.

    • @CompactGarden
      @CompactGarden 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yeah, I am in zone 10 so I haven't had to worry about weather. I also have another worm bin (Hungry Bin) which I leave out as well. I have read other owners moving worm bins and the Garden Tower indoors during the winter in colder climates. For the most part, if it's cold enough that the worms aren't going to do well, the plants are also likely not growing. This however does mean you need to buy the wheel system or have your own way to move it. Hope this helps. Edit: Something else I thought, another thing you could consider is to also wrap/cover the garden tower to help with the cold weather.

    Great video! Thanks for sharing your insights. You bring up great things to consider. One thing you didn't mention was build quality. Did a cheaper system mean it was cheaply made? Thanks.

    • @CompactGarden
      @CompactGarden หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thats a great question and in hindsight I should have mentioned it a little at least. To answer your question, both systems are quite sturdy using food grade plastic that is UV resistant, and they feel very similar in terms of quality and thickness of material. They both also have a 5-year warranty, but I'll be honestly surprised if I run into any issues (if I do, I'll also definitely be making a video on it as well). When I mentioned cheaper, I was only referring to price. Hope this helps!

    That spinner base is $70 the other base is $50 and the supports are $24 each or 3/$59.

    • @CompactGarden
      @CompactGarden หลายเดือนก่อน

      You’re right! My initial price was based on the version I have without wheels, which cost about $40, so that number was stuck in my mind. However, the fully loaded spinner with wheels, plus the multi-pack supports, does add up quickly. I still think the main focus of the video stands, as it shows how each system lets you choose which features to include, but I agree that once you start adding accessories, the price gap narrows significantly.

    I love that you are doing this review, and the garden stalk too! I am newer to tower gardens, your info is super appreciated! I'm curious which would be better for perennial herbs, like chamomile thyme, etc...We are very interested in both, but agree with you the price points are extremely different. Can't wait for your further updates, thank you very much!

      Thats a great question and this is a scenario I am hoping to do a video on one day, but I imagine it will take a bit of time to observe differences. If I had to guess right now, long term the Garden Tower 2 should perform better with less effort. This is because the composting should provide nutrients longer while you would need to amend the soil in the GreenStalk. How often the amending needs to happen will be interesting to track.

    They do sell a lid that you can buy for $12 w/o the automatic watering system.
