Your low E string is out of tune...Probably a good idea to at least make sure your guitar is in tune before you make video thats going to be seen by a ton of people....Just saying.....( and I know its suppose to be tuned to D).
I was looking for a video covering this song, thanks a lot, and well played!!! 👏👏👍
I've been playing that lately..I love that tuning but Isn't it crazy to think Mr. Y came up with that lol
Sad to see the demolition of Filbert Street. I remember going with my Dad to home matches on the 45 bus. It was 5 shillings for adults and 3 shillings and sixpence for me. A bit different to today's prices! I recall seeing Bert Trautman play in one of his first matches after recovering from a broken neck which could easily have ended his career. I went with my parents to the 3D cinema demonstration which I think was in a marquee on Welford Roads Recreation Ground but it is only a vague memory as I can't recall any details of the film. Another vague memory was queueing for ration books in Granby Halls. I would be about 4 years old and didn't like having to stand around for what seemed ages. I must have had a paddy, as Mum got cross and smacked my legs.... that's why I can still remember it over 70 years later! Thanks for bringing back the memories! Leicester was a good place to grow up in those days. Dad worked at John Bull rubber company in Evington Valley Road for over 20 years. Long before Dunlop took over and moved everything to Birmingham. I went to Gateway School and cycled there past the Foxes Glacier Mint factory. We always knew whether they were making mints or Glacier Fruits by the smell in the air when we got too school. They were good days even if we didn't have a lot just after the war.
Hours to destroy and a lifetime to build a community. With the right attitude these communities would still be flourishing. It happens where there is money.
just come across this video the lady mrs baum is my grandmother haven't heard her voice in years can you tell me when the recordings were made
Yes, the recordings were made in 1994. Mrs Baum was recorded with her friend Mrs Hickling and the tapes were deposited with the East Midlands Oral History Archive a few years later.
Thank you for this informative video, my grandparents were raised, as i was & my son and nieces in Aylestone St untilI was 20, I would very much like to know if Mrs Hickiling ran a Public house (cant remember the name) in New Bridge Street and had a daughter named Susan? ... many thanks, Norma Jenkins ...nee Lenton @@clhyde
Nice one Mr H! How about a Pocahontas next? All the best, Lewi
Thanks so much for this. When I was about 10 or 11, some of us had come down to Aylestone Reccy, I don't remember why because we were from leafy Clarendon Park, Stonygate and Knighton, and we joined in a soccer kickabout. There was great excitement because apparently some of the grownups were City players. After the session a gang of us trailed down into a terraced house in Walnut St. (I think, or maybe Filbert St) and got the autographs of the mighty Derek Hines, what a nice bloke. Of course nowadays this wouldn't be allowed to happen, I despair. One other memory I have is that when I was a toddler my mother would often walk me in the pushchair from North Avenue to the Welford Rd cemetary to watch the trains. I remember on market days, cattle being driven down Welford Rd (I think from Wigston) to the cattle market. Some were loaded live onto trains just by. Great post, Colin. Very important archive.
Thank you so much for this upload! I'm passionately interested in the history of my home city.
