Cement Train at Cresswell during construction of the A50 Tean by-pass
Such a shame it's gone, all for the sake of housing
I've been in this tunnel quite a few times in the 70s - attempted to climb through the collapse but chickened out 😅😅
Pretty sure that there was a diagram for a class 104 DMU working, Manchester, potteries loop line, Stoke, Cheadle .
Great footage Knapp.👌
Recorded with the internal mics?
Incredible. One of the most dangerous ones along with Bolsover & Burdale
Wow I love it
Mind truly blown....and my day truly made! I found this video by chance when searching as I do from time to time hoping to find anything about the old Cheadle railway and in particular the sand wagon trains which last used the line because I have vivid memories as a child of age 5 of hanging around in the station watching the train working. On one very special occasion I will never forget, the train driver actually allowed me in the cab whilst the locomotive was moved from one end of the sand wagon train to the other and he even showed me the controls and allowed me push the lever to move the engine!, how thrilled was I at only 5 years old! so that memory was forever firmly etched in my mind (hence I find myself searching Cheadle Railway some 45 years later) Well...amongst the collection of photos at the start showing the sand wagon train photos, I darn near fell out of my chair when at 2 minutes 9 seconds into the video I see a picture showing the then 5 year old me sat on the platform beside the train passing time. It was like the image had literally been plucked from my minds eye and I would say the photo was most likely taken on the very same day that the train driver let me help move the train! I moved to Ireland about 2 years later in 1979 where I have lived ever since and I will be 50 next month July 2023. My mind is well and truly blown, what are the odds of someone taking a photo which you are in and entirely by chance you find it some 45 years later? Magic stuff and thank you @Knappist for putting this content up!
So pleased you found this bit of Archive film and photos, makes my work and research worth it, many thanks for your comments
Cheadle Station was one of the ones built under the supervision of my 2nd cousin 4x removed George James Crosbie Dawson who was Chief Engineer of the North Staffordshire Railway from 1886-1914.
A remarkable coincidence! -
I remember steam at Cheadle Heath when I was three. I got asthma because of all the smoke.
The quality is not that good but an interesting bit of archive footage
Just be thankful any footage exists !
What uses a spring like that? It looks fairly light duty which is what I'm looking for for this project 👍
Hi Jeff , it’s just a small car coil spring, work very well
@@Knappist OK, thanks for letting me know, I would imagine it's probably a rear spring, seems to be what I see most with the tapered coils on each end.
@@bodeine454Hi Jeff it’s just tapered on one end and welded onto some old brake discs, the tapered end, I welded a large washer with a nut under so a bolt could be screwed into it welded to a pole the scarecrow is mounted on . There are many ways of making them have a look on Yuotub loads of stuff out there good luck and have fun 👍
Thanks very much for that. I worked there from 1984 for 18 years, what a place! But, for Marling Insulations....
The old Allotments in Cheadle Staffordshire gone but not forgotten 🥲
Cool
Interesting video! Cresswell looks very different now!
Thansk for this, i lived in tean for 20 years, excellent photos
You are welcome, I will post more of Tean in the future 👍
I worked there in the early 80s .
Interesting archive footage!
Suprisingly diabolical selection of 'hymns' for a church like this. Poor organist if he has to play that stuff every week!
I agree not the best choice but it dose get better, I was a server at this service.
