I can't believe no one brought up the diesel heater. 😮 Ounce per ounce, diesel is much cheaper than propane. It can also be much safer than propane heaters. Unlike propane, diesel heaters put out very dry heat.

@@Matthew_Loutner I'll bet you stare at your cat's anus for it to fart out some perfume! Diesel heaters don't smell if you pipe the exhaust away from where you are staying. Dry heat vs very moist heat After the night of the propane heater, Your whole tent, camper, and RV will be dripping wet from the byproduct of the propane. Propane also doesn't ignite during extreme temps.

You can get new wood stoves, that have duel uses, Catalytic and old fashioned, they are "Hybrid wood stoves" and they can burn the same wood between 5 hours, and 48 hours roughly. Worth a look, but they can be spendy. (3500$) But given the time savings, and the multiplier on the wood, they are often well worth it. Look up the Blaze King "King 40" for reference, this is not an endorsement, this is just reference material.

I have one they run at about 30wh. For me the questionable electronics and ticking from the fuel pump are enough to keep it as a shop heater but not in the cabin. For reference both the diesel heater and this direct vent preform about the same as far as heat output.

I have an XF-605 but I'm not very happy with it. Stabilization is poor and autofocus is random. The use of a tripod is imperative and I often have to settle for manual focus. It's a good machine for the studio, but not for use in the wild.

Thank you for your awesome video. I’m looking at purchasing the 605 to film Aussie Rules. It’s played on massive fields 185 meters x 135 meters roughly, one remarkable detail to our game is that there’s no standard field size, they can be anything. I would love to get your opinion on its suitability for recording games. One last question is it possible to record directly to a SSD and then simply plug the SSD into my new MacBook (that I need to also purchase) 😬 Thanks

hmm as far as the ssd i cant say for sure maybe a way through sdi out. It seems like the camera has been a go to for a lot of field sports because of the lens. however i would say a gh6 with a long lens might also do both the things your requiring.

This is an excellent camcorder. But is it a cinema camera killer? The sensor is only a 1" type, and cinema cameras have Super 35 or full frame sensors. The difference in dynamic range, low light, and depth of field is still enormous. With that said, if you're an indie filmmaker, you could use this in a pinch. I don't know why you would when there are more cinematic options out there for less cash. The mirrorless cameras out there are shooting amazing video quality today. A lot of the issues DSLR and mirrorless cameras have had in the past for shooting video have been mitigated. The preamps are better, XLR adapters are available for many models, and the autofocus is excellent on the latest models. They still haven't put built-in ND filters on any mirrorless cameras, but I am hopeful that will happen sometime soon. Perhaps the XF605 could be used on set for niche kinds of shots. No, this is a camcorder. And there's nothing wrong with that for the appropriate use case. I see camcorders being the right choice for live event coverage, news gathering, sports, etc. I know the 1" sensor can give you a blurred background, but it's still probably too much depth of field to be considered cinematic.

@tailgatetinkerer7710 the 'look' for interviews is not as nice, not as cinematic, but the 4K is just so much better to work with along with 10bit 4:22 and internal stabilisation. Frankly, I am very very happy with the 605 and it helps me get much better shots than I ever achieved with the Mark two.

It’s so difficult with such little experience to pick what will suit the best. Howard how did you go with your purchase, are you happy with the Canon cf605. I’d love to hear before I purchase this week. Cheers

Just wondering if you had a chance to compare this to the JVC G-HC500 with SSD (in the Media Adapter)? The JVC, at least on paper, seems to edge out on specs - 20x optical zoom and the ability to record in-camera 10-bit 4:2:2 Apple ProRes (not just H.264/H.265) - at least to the SSD, which is the compact M.2 variety, so it's not like this bulky think hanging on the side.

Hi, thank you for this review, I would like to ask how the manual focus works on the xf605 camera, I own a canon xc10, and on this one it is quite a problem to use manual focus. I was wondering how to manually focus with the xf605 when the camera is on a tripod, wide angle (25.5mm), and from 50cm to infinity. And secondly it's set at (382.5mm), from 1m to infinity. On my canon xc10 camera, specifically for long glass, I have to crank up the wrist to re-focus from 1 meter to infinity. and at the same time the focusing is variable and not linear, so depending on how fast I turn the focusing ring, it focuses faster and slower and it is unpredictable, and I'm not very excited about it.
