7/8 Time Signature A Minor Backing Track

Test your solo abilities in A Minor over a jam track formatted in 7/8 time signature. This will help with your phrasing and help with melodic ideas. For beginners, 7/8 is 7 beats per measure, the 1/8th note is the division. You can count as 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 per measure, but it is sometimes easier to count 1,2,3 followed by 1,2,3,4 and keep alternating back and forth. i.e. one group of (3) 1/8 note...

    Do you adjust height under tension or do you loosen the strings off first? Thanks

    • @ajlsoundwave
      @ajlsoundwave 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I definitely would "loosen" the set screw, move the main height adj. up or down, then snug the set screw. The intent of the set screw is to help keep the post from moving if you remove the bridge. it basically pushes from the body up into the center of the post causing the threads of the post to be under tension. If you try to move the post while this is under tension, it could damage the threaded insert. I hope this helps.

    • @ErinBlueBird
      @ErinBlueBird 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yeah the set screw thing I got it, I mean the string tension. Do you detune your guitar to minimize knife edge possible damage of you can adjust the height of the strings while on tension? Thanks ♥️

      @@ErinBlueBird Oh sorry... duh... It's been a long day... OK - I've owned many floyds' and Ibanez's bridges... I've done it both ways where detuning vs. just making adjustments. Hi Alan.. I have RG570 (1991) using Edge trem. I accidentally mixed the saddles. Any different between each other, in terms of the thickness? Also it has number under it. Is it for specific position to locate those saddles? Hope you can help. Thank you.

    • @ajlsoundwave
      @ajlsoundwave 24 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@pakuandpakis yes, the thickness will be different as follows: string 1&6 will be the thinist "thickness" vs strings 3&4 which will be the thickest. Strings 2&5 will be thicker than 1&2, but not as thick as 3&4. So there are 6 saddles, only 3 different heights as pairs. Does this make sense?

      @@ajlsoundwave Thanks for the input! I've been playing exclusively with amp sims since 2011 because I couldn't afford real hardware but now I could afford to spend $500-1000 on equipment and I'm just going for SS-11B to test how real tubes feel comparing to all digital. Today there's so many things you can do, you can even plug real JCM800 into a cab sim with load box /attenuator and record/monitor it directly into PC without blowing up neighbours. I feel amp sims are pretty good today but I just wanted to experience that authentic tube feeling and dynamic response on a crunch setting. I like the idea of using my hands to control gain from very clean to a bit overloaded sound.

    • @ajlsoundwave
      @ajlsoundwave 25 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@alpuhagame Again... RIGHT ON! So another really good signal path that is "in expensive"... get a really good amp sim w/ built in cabinet - I like the Neural DSP plugins; I think I paid 99$ for the Soldano 100, which they also let me upgrade for free to the Soldano 100X - which is really good... so I'll then plug various preamps or pedals DIRECT into my interface, then pick a "clean" amp from the Soldano 100x plugin and it's pretty amazing the results. I've not tried other cab IR's just yet... however, as said before, I too prefer a real tube amp to allow for the gain to be relative to how hard I hit the note... However, for loudness concerns or late night recording, it's definitely good to experiment with preamps / pedals etc. Cheers! Alan

    • @alpuhagame
      @alpuhagame 25 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@ajlsoundwave Hey Alan, I didn't mention but throughout the years I've been using all kinds of amp sims, starting from TSE, Amplitube, Guitar Rig, Bias FX, Mercurial, and now I'm rocking the Neural DSP (Cory Wong, The Amp Snob one). I was able to do all that because of pirating, and there are many "couch guitarists" out there doing the same, almost in every country. I promise I'll buy everything after I go out commercial but at least I can evaluate and do some research, which is a blessing in this economy. However, I think that even though technology progressed that far away, it still doesn't do the same as real tube. Specifically, I'm interested in what 12AX7 (and similar other tubes) can do compared to just plain digital sound. I'll totally try to use tube preamp + Neural DSP, however I think I wouldn't be using gain knob, only master (power amp one). Again, thanks for this demo - it gave me more confidence to commit to this purchase :)

    Nice song! Would you recommend this board for track recording?

    • @ajlsoundwave
      @ajlsoundwave หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Charlie - in short it depends on how many tracks you are trying to record at one time. It's an 8 bus board, so if you are trying to track through certain FX or hardware, you will be limited to 8 stereo busses... HOWEVER, this board comes with direct outs so technically, if all you are using the board for is the mic preamps w/ or without EQ, you can use the direct outs to feed whatever you want without having track limitations. This board has an EIN of -129 db which is actually much quieter than some high priced studio consoles. I use this primarily for summing, but I would not hesitate to use it for tracking. What would you be interfacing this with? i.e. what recorder / DAW or interface do you have in mind? Cheers! Alan

    • @ajlsoundwave
      @ajlsoundwave 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you are putting on the same gauge strings and going to tune to the same pitch, then in theory, the bridge will "level" to the same position you had prior to a string change. One trick I like to do if I'm just changing strings... do them one string at a time and this way, the bridge only moves back a little until you bring the new string back up to pitch... But if the bridge sits all the way down because you removed all of the strings, take the trem bar and use that to help move the bridge until you get enough string tension...

      @@ianmacneil556 now, if you REALLY want to challenge yourself... start the picking sequence using UPSTROKES!!! it took me years to get it with starting on downstrokes, but another comment here under this video claims the sequence really starts using upstrokes... so I decided to try it... I recco practicing it as it will actually make the downstrokes better.

      @@ajlsoundwave Ok great! I will try this too! I'm sure there is a "trick" here that I haven't figured out....after all, it's R&R! :)

    • @ajlsoundwave
      @ajlsoundwave 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ianmacneil556 the trick is getting a "cadence" between the L and R hands so it flows like a rhythm... but to do this, I'd start at half speed using a metronome... then start to increase the speed... patience wins in the end and it might take a few weeks for it to feel "natural". From what I've been told, JW actually created this lick as an exercise to improve picking... good luck!

    4:30 There is a rectangular indentation on the side of the Edge that's there to indicate the spot to level. If that indent is level, you're good.

      @@Billkwando right, hence why I use the top of the saddle as the "flat edge". All in all, there is no absolute; all players preference and I know some who prefer it to be tilted slightly back which brings the strings a tad closer...

      @@ajlsoundwave There IS an absolute, but whether folks choose to ignore it is up to them, haha. I do the same thing with sighting the bridge saddles on my Gotoh, but I have a couple JS guitars and on them you can clearly see the horizontal line on the side of the Edge. I guess the RG is just built different. Maybe something to do with it having a pickguard?

    I've just installed one on an original Edge trem that had a terrible, cheap replacement arm. The trem is removed as the guitar is still in the repair process, so installation was super easy! Even without playing the guitar, you can just feel the quality of this product! I currenly have 8 Floyd/ Edge equipped guitars, and I suspect most will be getting the same treatment.
