Restoration done by Bill Childress AKA Doubleodude in his two car garage at home. I have had a love for old vintage VW's my entire life. I bought my first one in 1987 for $50 dollars and was able to get it back on the road and I was hooked. Over the last 30 years I've owned at least 40 different air-cooled Volkswagens. I've slowly learned to build engines, do body work and even paint cars. I want to share what I have learned and bring you guys along. Restoring air-cooled Volkswagens is slowly becoming more and more difficult as the cars age. Rust repair and panel replacement is becoming more common. We also face problems with quality replacement parts becoming difficult to find. But with a little patience you can do it. I hope you enjoy the channel and let me know how I'm doing. If you're interested in supporting the channel please reach out. Thank you to Super Clean degreaser products for support us with their many amazing products #restoration #vwbus #vwbug

Hello, Looks good so far, I think you're on the right track with the engine. Yes, the thing with 1000 subscribers will happen, I still have a bit of perseverance. Have a good start to 2025, I'm looking forward to new videos. Greetings from Germany, Mark
Thanks man. I appreciate it. I hope you have lots of progress in the coming year with your projects. I’m also looking forward to more videos. Take care. Bill
You’re almost there. Merry Christmas brother!
Merry Christmas!
Long, dirty work... but it will be worth it in the end. Keep it up, I'm looking forward to the result
Thank you I’m looking forward to getting back on the road.
Bummer on the engine, but looks like you got a plan in the works and a good shop to help out. It’s hard to find anyone with experience or even wants to work on a type4. Good luck!
Thanks I’m well on my way. Hopefully have it in this coming week.
Finally another Rusty Dubbs vid! Sorry to hear about your motor. Glad to hear you decided to move onward and get the beast back on the road!
Thanks man. I appreciate it.
Wondered where you’ve been and what happened… makes sense now. You got this man.
Thanks for watching.
I would love to have an early VW bug. A super beetle
They’re out there.
The white one was the car where learn to drive from 14 years old.looking to buy exactly same one
It’s very cool. The owner installed electric air conditioning running off a lithium battery.
@@rustydubbs if any like that is for sale, i will buy it.let me know please
❤❤❤❤❤❤
Me too.
Wow, top🫶🏻
I had a great weekend at the VW Harvest put on by the @vwlife crew. Fun times.
Another fantastic video. Pure perfection.
Thanks so much
Really fantastic video THANKS
Thanks for watching.
Good job 👍🏻
Thank man.
Is it a 63? ❤
I’m not sure. The cars name is Vader. It’s been in Magazines. When look at it closely it has a Star Wars theme.
I love the two toned engine. That clean and shiny bronze is pleasing to the eye. And the well tuned sound of the engine is nice too. Good choice of music as well. I like everything thing here
Thanks. If you like home grown Volkswagen restorations videos. Definitely subscribe.
You ask What the patch work to the cabinet was at 14 min. The cabinet is for a early bay and the fillerneck is right there. I love to see your videos. 😊👍
Cool that’s good to know.
It would of been sooo much easier to just pull motor. It only takes 1 hr
My problem was space unfortunately. I live in an HOA so I had to get everything in the garage and I’m just completely out of room.
It would of been sooo much easier to just pull motor. It only takes 1 hr
True
yes, there is always something to do... The shop is really VW parts heaven
I’m very lucky to have it near me. I’m looking forward to your progress on your bus.
@@rustydubbs Yes, now we're finally moving on by bus. In the summer there were too many other things that needed time. It's continuing now in the fall, I hope to get the beginning edited together for the weekend
Saw the Rotella T4. Is this what you use on the bus?
Yes for break. Very high in Zinc.
It’s always something with these VW’s but you always pull through. Good to see it back on the road.
I’m now trying to get rid of a lean pop. You have to love a Weber progressive.
That is seriously hard work.
I had a blast doing it. Thanks for watching.
Just make a new cabinet.
I probably will in the future. I don’t know what I was thinking.
That engine needs dual carbs.
I agree. I’ve put a couple hundred miles on it. It’s very sluggish.
@@rustydubbs 15:10 I wondered why you had such a regular, slow tick-over. Good luck trying to get that with twin carbs.
Hell yeah dude. I think you inspired me to set a goal of going to busses by the bridge. Its august now and hopefully that gives me enough time to get the bus ready.
Do it man. It’s a three day trip one way from here. But I’m going for it.
Oh man, what a story..... but in the end everything will be okay...... and something learned again.... never take the engine apart when it is installed 😂
I just didn’t have enough room. Type motors are big and difficult to drop without doing in combination with transmission. I’m looking forward to your next video.
@@rustydubbs Yes, I know the space problem all too well. and the type 4 is actually bigger than the type 1. But luckily you did it, even if it was difficult
Congratulations! Bus sounds a lot better.
It does. It’s still need Watts to lay hands on it.
Whoo hoooo! Congrats! That's such a good feeling when you hit the switch and everything seems good! And I hear you changed that damn battery in your smoke detector! Ha!
I was surprised to find out I hand two in the garage.
Good thing you got it back up and going. Good work sir!
Thank you.
WOW, I would have pulled the motor. Good Video.
It definitely would have been easier.
Original westfalia cabinets are made with a top layer of plastic laminate which is far more durable than any stained/clear-coated wood.
This is true.
Great video, but change the battery in your smoke detector please!!!
I know right. It's sitting on my bench right now. It had fallen behind a cabinet. I was hoping it was going to die. A week later I moved half my junk to rescue it to regain a little piece in my garage.
Lookin good!
Thank you sir.
Nice, it’s officially a roller! Glad you survived the storm!!
Thanks man. I had to spend VW parts money. :-( To get things cleaned up.
Sure, looks like a fun project. I have two VW bugs and I love them. It is a lot of work, but oh so worth it, when you're driving the car down the road, and you realize that you made it possible. Like you said take your time, don't rush. Thanks for the video.
I’m glad you’re enjoying the videos. I have a ways to go but I’m enjoying the journey.
Great information. Thanks for the video. I did the same thing after working on my bug today, except it wasn't a cigar and it wasn't a beer 😅
LOL in Texas is a beer and cigar unfortunately.
Odd to see the calipers on the front side of the rotors, normally they’re on the back side
I had someone else say the to me. These are my first Empi kits.
How many of these stinky Hitler car videos do I have to? Thumbs down before they stop showing them to me
Hate those dirty hitler cars.
Loving your videos, thanks so much for sharing your journey.
I’m glad your enjoying them.
I was wondering what year it was!! I had a 63 like this and really miss it now!!
I’m excited to get it together.
Killin it
Thanks man. It’s time.
Looking good dude!
Thanks man. I’m ready to button this one up. Ive gotten distracted with a couple builds. I hope things are good with your family.
*'PEPPER 'EM!'*
Big things coming .
For sure
This weld bumps are alignment knobs for the steering box. I don't think they are important, grind them off. Type 2 have them especially.
Good to know.
