Redshift "Toll" Eindhoven October 2004
I recorded this Redshift performance back in October 2004 and as far as possible the video/audio is shown as the realtime performance. My original video audio recording is terrible, so I've matched (where possible) the audio from Toll to the performance. This has required a few tweaks and edits to the audio track as the album version was edited in post-production and also contained a number of guitar overdubs to replace the original performance, which had suffered from feedback issues. The encore is also included (again redub of audio was extensive).
I hope fans of Redshift and the magnificent Mark Shreeve will enjoy this piece of memorabilia.

Its been a while since I managed to fire up the modular, but I managed it last weekend and here's a short 7 min improv using the modular in tandem with my ARP 2600 and ARP 1601 sequencer. The Minecraft world is mine (guess what I was doing in various lockdowns...).
Narcosis Hampshire Jam 4

The one (and only) live performance of Narcosis at Hampshire Jam 4, Liphook UK. Whilst the video and sound quality may not be the best, I hope its good enough to enjoy after all these years.
Journey to Oz

As usual, I decided to noodle around for an hour thinking I'd put a few Berlin School sequences together....but somehow things went (subconciously) towards an Ozric Tentacles vibe, which is maybe not surprising as I've been listening to them pretty heavily this week. Its a simple piece, but fun making it nonetheless.

Berlin school music was my first love and remains a firm favourite 50 years on. Today's improv hopefully captures some essence of those early sequence-driven days of the early '70's before mass-produced synths and reliable gear was available to everyone. The transition at 5 mins is clunky (sorry) but this isn't meant to be perfection..just a reminder of those blissful early '70's listening to h...

Second improv of the day - a short 4 minute piece using the New Korg 2600 FS and a Roland Sh-01A.

An improv based around my recently acquired SH-01A and integrating some modular ambience into the mix for a bit more interest. Two main sequences in this video, with the changeover around 09:00.

Lockdown continues and consequently I've managed to spend a bit of time messing around in the studio. Here's a piece recorded late one night that incorporates three new pieces of kit I acquired a few months back (Roland JP-08, SH-01A and TR-08) together with the modular sequencing a transposing baseline (Doepfer A-154/155 via A-156 quantiser, to one of my Haible LVCOs, then into AMS 8109 LPF an...

Its been many years since the inaugural Hampshire Jam in Liphook and the time seems right to unlock the archives and share the original performances of a talented group of artists that all gave their time, energy and good humour to launch what would become an annual feature of the UK's electronic music landscape. Next in this series is Headshock (Paul Nagle and Tim Rafferty) A big thanks to all...

Digging through the archives to find and post rare and unseen footage of me and my good friend Stephan Whitlan running through a late night pre-gig rehearsal ahead of Hampshire Jam 4, which was scheduled to start only a few hours later.... Video and sound quality aren't the best, but hope you enjoy the rehearsal in my living room...and yes, we did manage to squeeze all that gear into quite a sm...

Awesome performance! The near halfway point reminds me of Tangerine Dream's Ricochet and Chris Franke's Purple Waves.
With all due respect to Edgar Froese, this is the music what the original TD lineup should have evolved into. This show has become a classic. I cannot beleive it was recorded 20 years ago and I am still returning to this. RIP Mark.
Great video. I close my eyes and I picture early tangerine dream. Fantastic!
Good job. Thanks
Amazing ... just take a look at Magnum Opus Sinestesia
the mashiene park is a parable of the great city babylon , transcending nature throu logic .
Om 🎉 grande saund 🎉😊
Love the jazz chord Steve!
Uma das melhores bandas de música eletrônica estilo "Berlin School", de todos os tempos, ao lado do Free System Projekt, Kubusschnitt, entre outros. Faz muita falta, essa banda.
Oi, ouça Magnum Opus ( Ummo, Sinestesia, Trilogia, Imagens... )
Fantastic jam...RMI rules! Thanks for this recording...so good to see them play!😄😊😂
Bro you guys are amazing! So glad I found your channel! Any chance for a rig rundown? I’ve got to find out more about you guys. 👏🏼🙌🏼
PHENOMENAL!!! TH-cam algorithm is on point as always. That’s the largest modular Moog I’ve ever seen and looks like programmer/memory modules in the top. Thanks so much for this gem!
it's sequencers, actually
Excellent upload Steve. I still remember those first Moog bass sounds going through your body that day.
Enjoyed watching that, thank you for sharing it
you're more than welcome 😀
This is wonderful. Many thanks for posting.
English Berlin schule
Wow simply awesome just what I wanted tickling my inner Tangerine Dream.
Thanks for posting this Steve - it's absolutely amazing!
Red means distortion, a lot of it in this case. But other than that it is a very good impression of a unique concert. Really enjoyed it!
Can someone post a playlist for this show? They are KILLIN' IT! 💎☢💥
1. Stuka 18.03 2. Cast Down 6.26 3. Glide 12.59 4. Rock 6.12 5. Toll 20.45 6. Schlacthof Funf (encore)
Thanks for the playlist!@@stevenjenkins3447
This a more exciting and a classier act than the current TD line up (Raum). It brings me no joy to say it. This video is a more satisfying show than the current TD tour. Redshift is/was top drawer electronic musicianship, This band is truly one for future E-bands to look to for inspiration. Red Shift doing what TD used to be able to do.
I agree,as much as I love TD,Redshift & Free System Project are really pushing the genre forwards in a spectacularl way! I have all Redshift albums nearly, and the evidence is listenable on each of them! They are the new TANGERINE DREAM. TD are having now some cool tracks but many sound the same. One album is better while the next lacks a little of originality. Still good but never as good as the new acts mentioned!😊🎉❤
I was lucky to attend the current TD tour in San Diego California, with special guest Steve Roach, who brought a lot of his analog gear, and was assigned center stage. Man! When those analog synths started churning drones, sequences, atmospheric sounds and a few leads for almost an hour! It was fantastic! I recorded most of it before my phone died. It was a very nice contrast between the mostly digital sounds of TD and the analog dominant sound of Steve!
Have to agree. Redshift had been carrying the Berlin School mantle for years (along with RMI), even before Froese's death. They were always a little darker and edgier than the classic TD line up, some might say derivative, but derivative of mid 1970s TD. What else could anyone want? The current TD output is a pastiche of a pastiche of something they did in the 2000s. It wasn't even interesting then.
Diferent tast, since TD
But, super interesting!!
Stunning. Great. Love it.
At about 30 minutes, his music sounds a bit like his album Ether, I have all his albums and that was my favorite! You play too, I have listened to your music on Bandcamp.
Lucky is was there to witness a live music performance what gave the venue a blast for centuries. It was so good and powerfull driven❤
Absolutely fantastic and I still can’t believe Mark is no longer with us 😢
He was a master and will be sorely missed! Music is the language of the soul, he translated into sounds for us to hear, and for that, I will always be grateful.
fantastic!
What year would this be?
Thanks for making this available. Cheers!
You should have recorded this output! Lush
So euh, how does one make this profitable, I mean doepfer is a dream...but a financial nightmare.
Start small. I began building my system in 1998, picked up 2nd hand models as and when I could. I taught myself skills to build new modules too (DIY can be a very cost effective way to build complex modules nowadays).
I don't think I live for another 24 years. 😒
This system costs (at least) 30.000€
max 4000 per cabinet ! times x 3 your est. is a Buchla system
Quite schulzian / tangerinedreamish to my ears! BEAUTIFUL!!!
Thanks for this gem.
Stumbled across it whilst tidying up an old hard drive ! Thought it had been lost a while ago (>.<) but here it is....
Love the poly rhythms and rhythmic changes. Do you have a video outlining the modules in each cabinet? That would be interesting.
nice tangerine sounding music
@justin b thanks ! Never know what's going to emerge sometimes...starting with an empty system and loads of patch cables...sometimes it works, other times..well, guess they never make it here..haha
@@pxguru2329 Well you are sounding a bit tangerine so you must know what your doing. I have the Softube doefper collection which I really enjoy - it took me ages to work out where to place the cables. I was going to buy the doefper 100a , I still might at some point - I still have not had enough time to play with my softube version. Love to have a whole 100a at some point.
Some great sequencing going on, excellent improv track
Awesome!!! Great creation!
Really nice from start to finish. Particularly love those filter sweeps at the start - memories of Rubycon pt 1.
Thanks Grant - 3 de-tuned sawtooth osc (each an octave apart) coming from the self-built Haible Living VCO through a DIY Jupiter 8 filter and into the Doepfer Phaser, modulated by a slow LFO.
Hi Daniel !! Nice to hear from you after all these years. I put up all of the HJ1 videos to try and make lockdown a bit more bearable for anyone who liked this sort of stuff ! I should have almost everything on DVD / CDR I think - at least I know I have the recordings. I’ll need to check with the bands to get the OK to upload anything else - but everyone was super supportive of this set going online, together with Airsculpture, RMI, UtD and Headshock. Video/audio is not perfect, but hey....
Thanks for this! I was at all of the HJ concerts and would love to relive some more of them please!!
Yes but can you patch my phonecall to overseas? Kidding, this is stunningly beautiful!
Thanks
Nice!
Thanks !
Thanks for uploading this! Great memories!
Guess we should plug the better quality audio download of part of this... airsculpture.bandcamp.com/album/hampshire-jam-preserved
A very good album it is too...
Love it brother
Franke? who's Franke?
StrangeViper Chris Franke- Tangerine Dream Sequencing and rhythmic master.
THe more often I listen to the analog modular synth sounds and composition the clearer I see that this was a "bridge technology" without significant musical value. Sorry.
What?
LOL you said jehova
Where do you live and when are you going on vacation?

Nice jam! P.S. That Presonus mixer you got over there has reverb :)
