love the images and the travel videos, really enjoying them, thanks!
I love that not everyone is talking about this camera. I was looking for a reusable film camera that wasnt plastic garbage, but didn't cost an arm and a leg. On my recent trip to Japan, I found one of these in a camera shop and immediately fell in love with it. It was a massive struggle to find a battery to fit the Asahi models and am still looking for one. I'm currently waiting on a roll of film that is probably going to be completely under or over exposed, but it was an awesome way to capture memories and have fun learning.
Me: watching it while waiting for my Mamiya 645 super arrives to Sweden from Japan 😇
Hey, good stuff and I'm with you 100% with shooting medium format film! You seem to be like or some what similar myself; a camera collector(ie: 35mm, 6x6, 6x7, 6x9..., & large format 4X5 also) that takes a picture or two from time to time (but you probably take a LOT more pictures than myself.🤔). But I also get into the Darkroom too; which is good also. Digital is good also, but I find it to be a very different "animal;" not a bad animal at all, just very different from film as it relates to film cameras. Just very recently I bought a very nice Black Nikon SP 3 rangefinder. It's 35mm, but it's very nice, but I'll have to also stay focused on my 6x7 medium format Pentax cameras. I really love my 6x7's, I guess that's why I have three of them, eh? Maybe I'll add a Mamiya to my collection also? All in all, you made a real nice video, and thank you for your video about the 645, really nice work and thanks again.😎
Hei Lotte , hvet du om det går an å kjøpe portra 400 eller fuji pro 400 i Oslo? hvor mye koster å fremkalle og skanne en filmP Takk for info.
Nice Content! How much is the price for this camera?
thank you
You look a bit like Scarlett Johansson. 😊
Very inspiring video, I also have a 645, even a film in it - for over a year... but after your video the 645 will be put right back on the waiting list. Super beautiful pictures, really brilliant. I wish you happy holidays and all the best with the new arrival Andy
Fascinating photos with the Mamiya! I got the same one and I'm LOVING it! THing is, I don't dare taking it to a wedding, cuz I fear I will be too slow with it and if I rush the photos, I will ruin the focus on them. I see you manage this so well! How are you managing to create such çandid'shots with the 645? For example the shot with the hand holding the glass, spectacular! Was this like see and snap away, or was like - Can you hold it a bit here? then focus and snap?
I have the Pentax Spotmatic which my father bought in the 60Th.´s. and I´m still using and enjoying it. The light meter doesn´t works, but with the app "myLightmeter" everything is ok. We can take advantage of the new technologies ;-)
i once had the older version with 500ms shutterspeed. should have never sold it back in the 90s...
Lovey vibe, beautiful photos, great equipment and chill, approachable, clear narrative. Thank you.
Stumbled on your video by accident … serious question, are one or both of your parents American? Because to me your English is absolutely *flawless.*. I would place it as a Midwestern accent with maybe a bit of California. I would never ever have guessed you were originally from Germany!
Found my dad's old Pentax Spotmatic in the garage, went to get it repaired at the old camera shop by my house, but the curtain was broken... so it would have been a $300 fix. They said, just buy a new body and use the lens. That's what I did this morning and now I'm having so much figuring out how to use it. And I lost my dad almost ten years ago so it's really nice to have something to keep his memory alive 📷 🌲 🍂
Make a zine!
Nope Pentax 67 is the best MF camera
It was the title Medium Format that made me come to your channel. I've got the Hasselblad X2D and have fell in love with medium format. Great video and by now you should have your baby. Oh and I've subscribed.
Great video ! I've been itching to move into medium format. This seems like the perfect place to start. Thanks for sharing
First of all, Congrats on the baby! Huge life changer. Secondly, you said you dont use the internal metering. How do you meter your exposures? Thanks so much!
In the late 80s I used to have a full system of Bronica 645 ETRS. I sold them in a moment of madness in the early 90s for a song. I have quite a few MF cameras at present like Hasselblads, Pentax 67, and a few old folding cameras that use the 120 film. I missed the 645 so much that I have bought a Pentax 645, waiting for it to arrive from Japan. I just want to use it for urban photography with its 45mm lens. Lets see what I make with it. My brother and I actually had a good look at the Mamiya 645 1000s before we went for the Hasselblad in the early 80s. I remember hiring the 645 and then the RB 67, but although they were much cheaper than the Hassselblad, the Hasselblad won hands down.
A good reliable 6X4.5 option. The main drawbacks are a lack of interchangeable backs and a focal plane shutter. On the plus side though, it means lenses are cheaper!
Mamiya 7 and Rz def go wayyyyy harder lol
Where did you get it CLA'd and how much did you pay?
You may want to consider buying a few rolls of 220 film. That will give you 30 exposures on a roll instead of 15.
This model is not the best one even for beginners - Film magazines can not be changed. This is huge disadvantage...
Tolles Video. Ich wünsche dir alles Gute mit dem Baby ❤
Дякую! Ви, напевно, вже народили дитинку, бажаю Вам щастя! Ласкаво просимо до України після війни.
10:24 Beautiful print
Hi Lotta! Cheers, Thomas
Great work! Did you mention you developed the film and scanned it before printing or was it made straight from the negative? I had Mamiya 645 Super, loved that camera.
I hav one and it is not fully mechanical as the shutter speeds work with the batteries, Without the battery it cannot operate different speeds. Thanks for the video nonetheless
Its definitely not cheap however I find myself just wanting to shoot with mine. It’s such an. Interesting camera. I took it on a shoot for my niece and I had the pistol grip on it and a few people thought it was a super 8 camera lol. I love the images that come out of it. I’ve had to learn how to use it, focus with it and finding a PD prism finder. It’s the journey.
Keep shooting, thanks for sharing
I prefer the Bronica ETRs to the Mamiya 645. Although both are roughly the same size, the Bronica felt better in my hands while the Mamiya felt awkward. Not sure why since they are very similar.
Congratulations and great taste in music too
gold in 120 is just so good
O.K., you're right: for beginners. Another one could be a Bronica 645. I worked a little with the M645 in the mid-seventies: stunning well performing lenses, but the inconvenience when watching though a waist level or prism finder at high format (vertical, portrait) is awful. So you can get an even lower budget 'Praktisix' 6x6 slr if you're not afraid of its ugly design.
My wedding was photographed on film, too, by a friend, who worked as professional photographer for police.
9:33 Kodak Ektachrome E100 the most expensive film, but being a reversal film, one single frame properly exposed is in itself a piece of tangible art. I am not talking about the digital scan of the photograph, the 6 x 6, 6 x 7 or 4,5 x 6 cm frames themselves are pure pieces of art. The subject must be interesting and colorful, composition decent and exposure to be spot on. If exposure is not correct, the collors will not come out as vibrant as expected. Overexposing kills the colors.
🎊
Oh my god 😭✨💕
Medium Format in real film, is darn expensive! Will you or your clients afford the cost! It has a look, that's nice! But at what operating cost? Cameras are old, may need services ,where? whom? Risks of X-rays at security at airports! It's compact but digital so much better. I did pro work, major companies, major newspapers, major fashion houses, Portraits, but I could have done so much more with digital. If You scan an image, you have a digital file! DIGITAL. Film is not romantic. Period! Have you ever done real tests? Don't cause hardship. I used Medium format, miles of film..Studio, professional printer. I can take my SD card to a printer, download and enjoy a coffee as small job is completed.! Bigger jobs easily mailed or linked. I'm 80 and shoot every day! I still develop my own BW! But realty digital really is stunning..
ok.
This is my first time ever seeing your content, and I must admit that I really enjoyed it. I really look forward to viewing more of your content in the future. 😊
Oh thank you so much!! I‘m working on another video right now, I hope you‘ll like it!
I wondered where I've seen you before. You did some B&H videos, too right?
Thanks for the insights into the Mamiya 645. Not sure a camera that size would be an everyday carry for me but you're so right about the quality that medium format gives in print. Congratulations on your impending birth. I'm sure Milde Junior will be the most beautiful and most photographed baby ever.
Aw, thank you so much, that is very sweet.
Appreciate your content Lotta! Love the imagery here. The medium format quality is addictive for sure! I still have my Bronica SQ-A (6x6 format) kit that I bought new in 1990 when I was shooting 6-10 weddings a year as a side gig for 9+ years. I took it out of safe storage a couple of years ago and have been enjoying shooting it again. So crisp and detail for days! Best to you and congratulations on your baby! Blessings… 😃
Thank you so much for watching! 😊 Do you have a portfolio online somewhere? I always love seeing people‘s film photos
You are so right when you say that medium format has an impressive, unique look; the images you shared had an incredible rendering that can't be overlooked.
Thank you so much - I‘d love to be able to replicate that digitally so I don‘t go totally broke, but somehow that just seems impossible.
The camera isn't actually fully mechanical, it uses an electromagnetic shutter, run off a small battery on the bottom side of the camera. This is also probably the reason it locked up the first time. On mine a wire from the battery compartment to the shutter corroded and snapped. Camera completley locked up. I resoldered it and works like a charm.
It ended up working again after a CLA - maybe it just needed a little bit of love and attention 😂
