Veterinarian recommended sedation for this donkey. Watch as I trim the front hooves, without sedation, even while being pushed against the wall. I specialize in helping donkeys who are scared and resistant to the hoof care process. This was out second session together . What you see is 18 years experience in handling donkeys for hoof trims.

First Sedation-Free Hoof Trim for Mini Donkey
มุมมอง 7477 หลายเดือนก่อน
My first time meeting this miniature donkey that had only been sedated for hoof trims, because he was deemed "dangerous" by previous farrier. This is a common experience for donkeys. If the resist hoof care in any way, professionals will immediately resort to sedation due to their lack of experience and ability to communicate and connect with a donkey. As a donkey farrier for the last 18 years,...

BLM Burro Hoof Handling & Trimming

Hoof trim on BLM Burro/ Donkey at liberty. No halter or any restraints. Rocco was a former "difficult" and "bad" donkey. With only 3 sessions with me he was a willing participant for trimming his hooves. Less restraint = more connection. The focus in this video is my hands and how I use light pressure, even holding the hoof with only a finger tip.

You don't clean out the hoof with the knife?
Excellent tips ! Thank you ! Merci beaucoup ! 😍
You are so welcome! I'm glad you founs it helpful.
I have peeled my skin off so many times. I will be buying these gloves! Actually just bought them and the Cody James Rasp! Thank you SO much for the recommendations.
I have an amazing farrier that is working with me but I have a mistreated untrusting mini donkey that I purchased 2 years ago. I really love your techniques. They have helped me tremendously. We did have to really push boundaries this year with an extensive vet exam this year and we have been unable to trim her since then. She was never “great” about the trims. She will explode out of nowhere. She has not offered a kick directly at us but she will slam into fence panels and go straight over our heads. I did get her feet rasped out by myself using your technique but wasn’t confident enough to do the rears. I am also NOT confident enough that I will get a balanced hoof. Tomorrow we are taking another go at it as the farrier will be coming. Biggest problem is that I live a couple hours from any town so I usually only get one shot every 6 weeks for help. I know that i need to be working with her more and I have been spending a lot more time with her this summer to gentle her but she wants nothing to do with me and is NOT food driven. She does also have my mini male who is extremely well behaved and I never separate them as she will slam panels to get to him. Oh and I am totally going to give peanuts a try.
Oh wonderful! You are doing a great job. I'm so glad I am able to help from afar. <3

Haaay Meghan 🎉
Hi 👋 how are you guys?
why is there only a very small amount of frog there? Because of the white line disease or lateral loading?
that frog is riddled with thrush, it will come back eventually, once its treated and under control
Well done Megan!
I'm sorry to say but you didn't do I very good job on his hoofs not good at all you didn't take much of.
It’s more important to know what to leave on hoof, rather than how much you take off 😁
Your mule is so thin my lord 🙏 don't you feed him you can see his back bone I really hope you look after him.
This mule was not well cared for by the previous owners/packers. This was just a few days after he arrived to his new home. He does not belong to me. I was simply helping him after years of being forced to have hoof care with sedation and restraints. We would later discover after a full veterinary work up that he had a debilitating condition in his pastern joints - his care turned into palliative and we helped him cross the rainbow bridge a few months later.
Hes gorgeeeous! My young mule is like him but brown. Im gonna try the mini stand i have with him . He hates my farriers big tall stand. Too much strain .
Yes try a mini stand for sure!
I LOVE Donkeys. Thank you for sharing..👋❣️
You are so kind
What a CUTIE!!

donkeys give the best hugs
Beautiful place
Kiss him! 😊 ...after he lets Kim get hers. Pls don't say "get outta here" in a far too serious tone after your sweet baby voice to him...pls stay consistent if you want him to learn. ❤❤
thanks for your comment. I've been doing this work for 18 years with donkeys. Did you see his hoof trim video?
@@donkeyhooftrimming - I see; this interaction is the result of GUlgpPLM-xQ I suppose. What do you think was all his honking at the start of this short? I rather think it's his "accusations" 😂 over his fear. I do see this short clip vision happened because Jefferson(?) is as terrified of hoof trimming as alpacas can be of shearing! Crazed sometimes! And then it becomes a tussle of wills due to their (unwarranted) fear. What you need is generational donkey preschool: your foals 😊 need to get peaceful early hooftrim training with their momma there. Then continue (as you now do) their regular trimming ea month as foals. Also you deserve some protective hooking-on contraption at the correct elevation for you, so you don't need to bend down so much, for your back. Treats won't always work, nor can they be the only thing in yr arsenal; although of course you want to keep them free-range for less stress - as you do; I've seen that already. Giraffe keepers train their charges with precursor partial behaviors - see B_ah0yv5Ehg. They have even more intense relationship training every day, which is not practical for you, but you can adapt that for your role as health professional which donks 😊❤ can see you as! I think donkeys are smarter than giraffe. So you have a good chance with a bit more expanded relationship training with them. I wish you the very best; you are a kind, happy hoof trimmer. THANK YOU for all that you do. One secret really is the ear massage from their earliest ages. They should not fear you, but love & trust you. 😇🤎👌🏾
You have nerves of steel!!!!
😅😅
Donkeys are the nicest
Yes they are!
New Subscriber, Hope To Enjoy Your Donkey's In Action..
thank you!
I love watching you interact with the donkeys. What is the siren in the background, I'm thinking a call for firefighters or a dam releasing water.
Thank you!! I do believe that is out fire dept siren
Do you think they are more conducive to women?
He had the lick maybe chewing later lol.
Da baby is blissed out from the modalities. OMG. My fave moves were the eye circles. In your baby voice! 🥰
😊 thank you
Good Job ! Dangerous though, be careful. Do you charge extra when animals aren't trained?
Thank you! Yes this session was $150 but only took me 25 mins. I feel really good about this. I expect him to be even better on the next trim, and we will probably sedate his friend Kim for her first trim. I may take a colleague with me on the next round to help with Kim. Overall great progress
Whom is training whom? Appears she's being trained to feed apples!
I don’t mind being trained. After vet evaluation- it was determined this mule was indeed in a lot of pain, and was not being “bad”. I was able to help him when others would not take the time to listen to him. My approach and trimming kept him comfortable during the last chapter of his life, and I can feel really good about that.
😂 Guess you did not see those Ears = not very horse like.?😊
Yes this is a mule :)
That's awesome!
Thanks!
Hey hay, it's our JJ! 😘
Sure is!
He does like you because you’re nice ❤
I think donkeys are the cutest
Me too!
He gave the best show possible by showing his trust in you.
I always feel honored to be able to earn their trust !

💗💗😆
That’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever seen
The massage is wonderful. The "modality"-related hippiedom: not so much....
