How to Make a Dollar Tree Strawberry Tower | Grow Strawberries Vertically in a DIY Stackable Planter
มุมมอง 30K11 หลายเดือนก่อน
I made DIY Dollar Tree Strawberry Towers so that I could grow strawberries in my small space container gardening yard. They were super easy and cheap, but not perfect. This video has some of the pros, cons, and a how-to component for how to use these successfully. Dollar Tree Stackable Planters: www.dollartree.com/stackable-3-pot-planters/302624

I found one bigger than a golf ball didn't know what it was, the guy I was working with had grew up right in the area and didn't know either, thought is was some kind of potato. Tossed it, it dawned on me later what is was. Right in town next to a busy sidewalk lined with woods.
Amazing
What are those containers called?
That fig looks delicious!🍽
Thank you for such a great review of this fig!! I am hoping to get some cuttings this winter. Right now I am trying to root WM#1. My I-258 has figlets! Can’t wait 😅
Nice. Looks like the ones I've had from my potted tree last year.
I just watched a bunch of your fig tasting videos. You do a great job at describing tastes and keeping videos concise, fun, and informative. I'm hoping to get first year fruits from my own Campaniere and Figoin so it was nice to see that you enjoyed yours. RdB is a stellar fig most years for me (western PA). It's my #1 overall fig (based on taste, productivity, and performance) so far among the 35 or so varieties I have. In lots of rain and humidity they aren't as great as they can split a lot but they can still ripen a bit afterwards and taste fairly good underripe. RLBV is a great fig as well. I hope that one improves for you this year. If you like cherry flavors in your figs then I highly recommend Hative d'Argenteuil. It's early/mid season ripening, uniquely tasty, and doesn't split in rainy or humid weather.
Are you sure that was a main crop? The wood looks to be older wood. Main crop is only produced on new wood. Also, another observation that I made is, it’s very big for a main crop figoin. But would make sense if it’s actually a breba, as Brebas are bigger than main crop
Put masking tape over the holes and drill through a few at a time to prevent the cracks due to the grill and to do the job more quickly
I want to know about the irrigation for these things...
Is that olympion, ive only seen them with golden flesh and skin, i could be wrong
I'd describe the interior as amber in color.

Great job 👏🏼
I see that you don’t cover your fig fruit to be protected! Any reason why you don’t ???
I have 2 RDB fig trees in my garden. I am very happy and will survive in -15 to -20 in the garden
I just picked some of these up at my local $ store. Think I may grab some Matte clear acrylic spray and put a coat of that on the exterior of each so maybe they won't break down so quickly. Thinking bush beans over strawberries... Love this video, thank you.
What if you wrapped the tower pots in tin foil? It would stop uv rays from deteriorating the plastic, deflect heat keeping the roots cooler, and maybe increase light to the greenery of the pot near it . Just a thought.
If u place the containers on a flat board or plywood right side up then drill holes from inside they won't crack
not all the way ripe yet ... another 2 days
I’m definitely gonna try this. Thank you so much.
Oh my lawd I can’t wait. Like 86 more days for mine 🤣
I purchased a simple wood burning tool several years ago that I use for putting holes in all my plastic pots. You won't crack the plastic as you are just melting a hole through the pot. You need only purchase the tool not the entire kit and Amazon sells one for 12.99 which will last for years . Though I also have 3 Green Stock vertical planters I enjoy my dollar tree ones for herbs, strawberries and flowers like marigolds. I don't allow runners to develop on the strawberries and I put the planters in the garage for the winter in our zone 4 so I can water them lightly if the soil is drying out. We get a fair amount of wind at times but I have never had them blow over as I top with a nice size rock and only stack them three or four high. Also purchased an extra GS base so I can move them around easily on the deck and turn them daily to equalize the amount of sun they receive on all sides.
Very solid review! I just started buying these a few days ago when I ran into these by chance recently in my local dollar store.
Or spend a few bucks on a small soldering iron. I paid $5 for one ten years ago, and it's still going strong.
@@OldLadyInFLI don’t understand the soldering iron part.
Excellent 🎉🎉🎉 I subscribed to your channel 😀🙏 Great work..
I wonder how the strawberry plants will survive through the winter in zone 6
I’m in upstate NY. This is the first year I’ll be using a grow tower for my strawberries. They’re in a raised bed now and they’re looking good. I’ll probably put the towers on our screened in porch in the winter for a little protection while they lay dormant.
I use a soldering iron.. works great
Great idea!
You can heat up a nail held in pliers and melt a hole, easy peasy.👍🏻
Awesome thank you
Really early lol
Your towers look great, I want to try this for strawberries 😊
I had these and they never worked
You may want to look watcha "Like on Turkey Lane". To has a little self water tower that I will be trying. I will add the middle pole like you did.
New subscriber, I'm starting a new garden in a few weeks and have some of these in storage. Thanks for some great info ❤
😂 I’ve never seen a truffle up close! Nice find doggy!
Crazy how unassuming they look. The smell will make you do a double take though lol.
Good to know❤ thank you. I'll use my old gutters
So many great options to try!
Can you do a tour of your garden. I love the look with the containers but it was too quick for me to get ideas. Thanks in advance
Great idea! I'll probably do a garden tour this summer. Thanks!
You can slow the video down.
I haven’t tried it yet, but I’ve seen this in several videos. If you drill backwards, you will have less cracking. (Like you are backing the bit out of a hole.)
Thanks for the tip! Yeah, the ones where I only used one hand since I was holding my phone filming definitely cracked more and the ones with two hands were gentler and less cracking even without reversing the drill.
New subscriber. Great video. Thanks for sharing. Awesome.
Thanks for the sub! Welcome!
If they’re from the Dollar Tree, does that mean each one costs a dollar? (Sorry if that’s a dumb question but I haven’t been to that store in decades.)
It is $1.25 each
I got mine yesterday. It was a 3 pack for $1.25. I bought ALL of them. I’ll be doing strawberries, cucumbers and tomatoes
@@hydrangeaparadise674 thank you 🙏
@@BiscuitsWithButter thank you 😊
Dollar Tree is $1.25 now lol.
what an incredible dog!
I love her so much :)

What a fun day! Where in general are you hunting? Western Washington?
Yep, western Washington in South Puget Sound usually :)
I’ve never heard of a dog who hunts mushrooms, so cool!
I mean truffles* but I haven’t heard of a dog who hunts mushrooms either lol
She loves it!
What are the best types of forest to find them? Doug fir 10-30 years old? What are the key indicators of a good spot to look with my dog?
Yes, forests that are predominantly 15-30 year old Doug fir are best in this area. When scouting new areas, we usually look for sites with very little undergrowth--a few ferns are fine, but thick undergrowth rarely is very productive for us. If we see red dirt in the area, that's usually a good sign. A lot of times you can see squirrel holes in the ground where they've dug for truffles.
Good job Keta! Are the white truffles as smelly as the black ones?
The best little monster :) The white truffles are milder and better, in my opinion. The black truffles have more of a chemical taste/smell to me.
Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Please don’t doubt that champ 🙏
The dog is always right lol!
Na kolikoj nadmorskoj ste nasli tartuf? I koje je mesto.👋
