Restoring an original WW2 German M42 helmet shell to a war-time Wehrmacht helmet
มุมมอง 3.3K2 ปีที่แล้ว
In this video I'll be restoring and original WW2 German M42 Stalhelm helmet shell that I recently picked up from an antique store. The helmet shell had terrible grey post war paint, and no liner. I've wanted to restore a German helmet for reenacting for some time now, and i knew this helmet wasn't worth keeping in its post war condition, so I decided to restore it! Now after some struggles, cut...

Very helpful. I have a few pieces from the Battle of the Wilderness that I need to clean up. I look forward to trying your method.
How’d you get that m1 garand?
@@MrSlonkVR I got it as a birthday present, but it came from a place pretty close to where I live called the CMP(civilian marksmanship program). They mostly sell M1 Garands there, and I went there and spent maybe 30 minutes looking through them checking the serial numbers to find an original one from WWII

Cool outfit been working on mine recently
Im surprised TH-cam allowed comments on this video
I saw your comment on entomology spider Can you provide some more info?
This is what mens want to cosplay in school.
I have a soviet uniform
Just to tell you most of those flashlights, the reason why blue isn’t very bright, is because most of the time they were used for signaling traffic and stuff and high commanding officers, would have them as so as engineers too, but high commanding officers would have them to use them for maps And engineers would use them to obviously see around things and stop oncoming traffic and etc.

I found a 1942 enwell tricola in an old barn. Im "restoring" it. It has extra bulbs will it work off 9 volt battery?

i have found one in a forezt two dayz ago it look like yourz, but i dont know why i dont have manufactor name on mine, only have (43 ddl) on one zide, and other zide (4339 b) can anyone tell me why?
I'm not sure, although if I'm not mistaken I believe that not all manufacturers stamped their name, I could be wrong though

If you mix the chalk with 90% rubbing alcohol, instead of water, it will dry a lot faster. Less chance of rusting your helmet
Interesting! I'll give that a try sometime, thanks!
Nice but the straps aren't ww2 on the helmet
Yes I know, I believe the helmet liner is Vietnam era
Thank u i have learnt alot bro thx but mine says 9821
I tried to do a bit of research for you so I hope this helps, I was able to find a few K98 bayonets with the serial number being "9821" like you said is marked on yours, and here's what I found: German K98 bayonet with the serial number 9821 were produced 1943, and were made by E.&F. Hörster. If my research is correct then there should also be a "VV" stamp, as well as a "43 asw" stamp somewhere on the bayonet scabbard or the bayonet itself. If the stamps aren't matching then it's very possible that the bayonet and scabbard somehow got mismatched over the years, possible even during the war. I hope this little bit of information I've provided has helped in someway, and if you have any other questions please feel free to ask! I'd be more than happy to help out in any way possible!
Are you Australian
I'm American
Will this work with Ushanka?
It should, I'd give it a try!
Those pouches look soviet
The tf2 was hilariously
i just want to say in my opinion you should get m37 trousers and shirt and depending on temp. of where you live you should also get the usgi wool, high neck, five button, sweater and or the rest of the harsh weather gear or for hot weather/ tropical you should get the HBT shirt and or trousers it was very common on d-day to see HBT uniforms
Dont cut cardboard or paper with a bayone!!! It removes the blueing!!!!
Why are all the WW2 German Bayonets dull ?
Probably from years and years of being removed and put back into the sheath is my guess, it kinda rubs on the sharp side of the blade, also after the war alot of people used them for everyday things which would over time dull them. Although I have no idea why they wouldn't sharpen it 🤷
@@worldwarboy5619i have heard that the bayonets were issued like this and never sharpened thats why they should not be resharpened
@@RNLDishostin yes you're correct about that. When the bayonets were issued they came unsharpened, and needed to be sharpened by the soldier. If you have one that seems to have been issued but never used then definitely DON'T sharpen it.

I love people who arent afraid to wear somthing important to history, it doesnt make you a bad person unless you wear it for the purpose of making fun of or imitating the uniform your wearing (mostly just for nazi uniforms).
Next episode: wearing the fürhers uniform 😳
Where do u get the unifrom fro.
I got all the parts separately, but alot of parts come from ebay and antique stores
Are there any records of German soldiers using a green or spring color cloth in the warmer months? Or was this just used in winter?
I believe that they did. The german army issued cloth "pea dot" helmet covers to alot of SS soldiers, but I would be very surprised if other soldiers didn't take green or spring colored cloth and do it themselves.
@@worldwarboy5619 Thanks for the informative quick response!
@@yeatism2 no problem!
Pretty sure M42s didn’t use decals. (I could be wrong)
During 1942 and around 1943 decals were used. Post 1943 they were not issued but they still could be private purchased.
The leather string isn’t really accurate. It’s best to use proper cord/string but it’s personal preference. Not like anyones going to be inspecting your helmet. 👍🏻
This individual rifle happens to be the one that took a Germans head completely off with a 100 yard shot to the face.I recognize it.
7:06 Actually, the mask doesn't contain asbestos because it has an MI canister.
Not trying to be one of those "ackhually" guys, but I just peaked inside mine with a flashlight and it looks like asbestos to me.
@@duglife2230 The fact is that it isn't.

Hi. Nice review. I necro this just in case you still don't know about the detail regarding the slot at the bottom side (bulb in lower position, DAIMON brand name readable), where just a small amount of light emits through. In early WWII that slot (so called "Tarnlicht") was used as a "concealed" light, usually using the red filter added, for reading maps below at night in order to prevent enemy snipers from picking off higher ranked soldiers while they were briefing their combat groups. The leather strap of the lamp got usually attached to two buttons of the german field jacket, so it emitted light horizontally through the main lens as soon as turned on. To prevent enemies from spotting that light on open field the middle filter screen was put in position before (the bulb) to shut it, and let only light shine through the slot downwards from the bottom of the lamp onto a map held by hand, while shown to others around. Some later distributed lamps had special lamp covers or solid metal "filter" plates, instead of the blue filter, restricting the light for the same usage, afaik... A ton of these lamps are still in use today in a plethora of variations, by some armies, even in the NATO. I guess because of the simplicity of the construction and the ease of use and maintain. They are pretty easy upgraded by exchanging the bulb by a high power LED and the usage of a AAA-battery adapter. Looks oldscool, works like a charm. Cheers from Germany, Red Katipo.

Should also learn how to load it. Not necessary to pull back on the op rod handle. It will release all by its self if the rifle is working properly.
