If these companies were truly interested in doing well they only have to do one single thing: Pay attention to the consumer market and economy and make a VERY cheap, bare bones car that almost anyone could afford. if any of the big 3 came out wit a simple sub $20k car that isn't filled with every bell and whistle they can dry jam into it they would sell a HUGE volume of them. Even if they only made $500 profit from each one they could EASILY sell 200000+ per year. If they actually started to sell the cars that the consumer is screaming for instead of the cars they want to sell they'd sell a LOT more of them. But companies do NOT care about the consumer beyond how much they can squeeze out of their pockets. You are not important to them. Only your wallet is.
