Not much to describe here, just a hodge podge of videos that I've recorded over the years of foods and hobbies that have interested me.
this may change, but for the time being, welcome to the chaos that is me.

How I Make My Turnip Cake
มุมมอง 416 ปีที่แล้ว
This is a Chinese New year tradition for me, where I go batshit crazy and make 40 boxes of Turnip cake and do a big fry up for friends and family. For those of you who don't know, turnip cake is a savoury dish usually eaten for dim sum in HK. The ones you get at the restaurants normally only contain turnip and rice flour, so it's not very flavourful. The one I make contains cured pork, Chinese ...

This is how I make my sauce, which from start to finish took about an hour to prep and cook. I love it saucy, I love it tart, I love that extra kick of spice, I love the smell of oregano and thyme as it infuses into the sauce. I decided to cook it in the oven just cuz I could, still tasted damn good. I know, I know, it's not actually spaghetti pasta, still tasted good. Recorded in 4K on my Sony...

Time Lapse of my composting worms
มุมมอง 12K10 ปีที่แล้ว
I created this video with the TH-cam Video Editor (th-cam.com/users/editor)
Dude, you can support a tank with that bench. I like it :)
Looks great! How is it holding up nowadays? I cant seem to find 4040 longer than 1m on AliExpress. You used some struts to extend onto a second piece?
The desk has held up really well, although i mostly use it as a computer desk right now. I had to ask the aliexpress stores for custom lengths, most do it up to 3 meters, but then the question is how would you get it shipped to you
Sir, what a genius idea. Very Cool! We must be "brothers-from-another-mother", for I do wood working also, as well as general tinkering and building. Watching your video just gave me an astounding totally usable idea for my towable bicycle caravan. I wanted aluminum framing but was struggling with the aspects of learning to weld or finding someone to do it for me. I never even considered simply bolting it together. What the heck was I thinking? You just saved my project, as it is now suddenly possible. So glad I found your video. Thanks for posting.
Glad to have inspired you, document and film your build as well
Awesome - and great, rational, function-inspired design!
Thank You For Showing This Video?Very Gooood Of You 👏👏👏👏
What kind of fasteners (screws and nuts) do you use for this workbench? Zinc plated, nickel plated or stainless steel?
I use M4 or M6 screws with T-track specific T-nuts, very flexible once you get the hang of using it. Also makes adding other M4 bolts type fasteners like eye rings to be useful too.
That is one sharp looking bench. I'm looking to build one myself, and this is really inspiring!
I can already see that they were too wet, if you take a handful of this earth and squeeze it, only 2 drops of water will appear, I see mud here
Thanks for the video. But, where du you buy the aluminium profiles?
I got my aluminium profile on aliexpress. Given how expensive it is now, I suggest you try and find a local supplier in your area first just to give you a basic idea.
Thanks for the video. But, where do you buy the aluminium profiles?
Thanks for the vid. May I know what’s the total cost of material ? A rough estimate will do. Thanks.
Roughly 1k usd in material costs, shipping extra
@@millanchoi that’s quite costly.
@@justsrad well, the idea behind it was something heavy duty that I could do DIY projects, use it as a beer brewing station (I can brew up to 10 gallons of beer at a time), plus I use it as my work from home desk. Even an Ikea work desk is nearly HKD4k or roughly 500USD, so 1kUSD for my workbench isn't expensive at all.
@@millanchoi I see. It’s for multi-purpose usage.. well, in long term wise, that would be a worthwhile investment.
@@justsrad yeah, if I only used 4040 for the frame, it would have cut the cost by about 25-30%, so it does depend on your usage and how you design it
This is great, thanks for covering Sketchup, I am using it model my 8020 build as well. What castors did you use?
If you search aliexpress for GD 80S casters, you'll find the ones I used. They are extremely heavy duty
To much water and not enough air..All that liquid in the bottom container ? The whole set up is just to small for you trying to make worm tea if that was one of your goals. If you can't judge the right moister then at least give them a higher ground area in the bin so they can get away from the wet zone if they need to.
I love how everyone is still commenting on my worm bins after so many years. So many things I've done wrong. Someday when I have more room (and outdoor space) I'll do better
So you are giving your worms a ton of anaerobic bacteria and nitrogen sources and very little carbons, so now I know why you had a bunch of dead worms. A healthy worm bin shouldn’t really smell bad most of the time .

Nice!!! I am actually thinking of using aluminium profile for my small apartment furniture as it will make customisation easier. You have given me quite a lot of inspiration
What are feeding them? Also, your worm bin needs aerating, so that it doesn't smell. Ease up on the food scraps you give your worms; that is why your bin smells bad. I can see your worms are alive. They just don't look healthy and possibly they are drowning. That is why are dying. Your bedding should not have nay pesticides, which can definitely kill your worms. Use your hands!
Thanks Vanessa, unfortunately I gave up the worm bin a few years ago. I'll try again in the future when I have more outdoor space.
Nice work. Do continue to make such videos. For a small time DIY person like me, with not much space to go around, a modular structure is very useful. And thanks for telling me about Sketchup.
Really great video
Millan great job!!
Nice ...I need you help ..how can I designed an enclosure with aluminium profile?how can I select the parts.?
Really great ideas. Thanks for the video
Great project! Is alu profile cheap in HK? I used to live in mainland China and it was cheap... back in Europe now prices are 10x.
I got mine on aliexpress shipped in from China.
Hi, great Video...but use next time for creating a design maybe MayCad :-) ?....if you have questions about, feel free to ask me. Regards
Hi, What's the thinkness of the wood panel and the border pillars?
The wood panels are 18mm thick, I couldn't find 20mm. The pillars are 8080 aluminium extrusion.
Thanks for this. I've been looking to replace two second hand computer tables which take up 75% of available wall with a large floor profile due to their leg mechanism, with something which runs full-length, has a sturdier top than their tempered glass, and has tiered storage at more sensible heights for the larger screens ive subsequently acquired. This is the first project I've seen in my research that addresses a lot of my strength/modularity/design concerns, and being new to the DIY space its actually using materials I hadn't considered (I was weighing up whether I could even get what I wanted without going to a fabricator as I assumed I was going to have to weld which I've yet to learn how to do). This 6 minute video has saved me a ton of time and money; I can't thank you enough for it :)
Thanks for the comment, my work bench has been a lot of fun to use, and I see 8020 aluminium profile bring used in a lot of industrial applications now (at least noticing it more now). Have fun building your table.
NIce!
Hi,Can you tell me, where can buy it in Hong kong?
I had to buy it from aliexpress
thanks for video. also - heart goes out to hong kong right now!
It's cool!! But it's difficult to buy the t-slot aluminum in Hong kong. Would you mind share where can buy??
I got it on aliexpress
Thanks for the video bud, cheers :-)
What a great video! I wondered why T-slot Aluminum was called 80/20. It comes in sizes 20, 40, 80, possibly more. Loved your work bench, beautiful and functional and a beast for weight. I would like to make cabinets in T-slot aluminum framing so researching how this works. You did a great job explaining, many thanks!
It's pretty strange why more people don't use it. The strength and ability to customize is fantastic.
@@millanchoi Yes, true. I had not heard about it until I saw cabinets in a DIY van build on TH-cam. So, people may not know it exists. Then it is a cost factor too, which is prohibitively expensive for heavy duty projects like yours. Wood cost would most likely be $100 - $200 max, not $1K. Finally, it is not clear what you need - how thick, how many slotted sides vs smooth sides, how you attach the wood, etc. The official 80/20 instruction videos are an insult to watch, and you learn nothing. Nothing comprehensive out there on this kind of material. I should do a video on it myself to learn it. Lucky you, living in Hong Kong, such a dynamic and rich culture. But space is so limited for people who want to build anything.

Approximately, how much did your desk cost?
Roughly USD$1000.00
@@millanchoithat's not too bad. Thanks for the response!
@@Tyrone-WardI think there is a good chance I can get you this same workbench for same or less. Check us out at Flexmation.com
Way too much food.
Thanks for sharing. Was looking into building something similar myself and thought the 8080 for the main frame would be too big, but after seeing your video it looks exactly what I'm looking for.
It's definitely over engineered, but I'd rather that over bring worried that it would break if too much weight was put onto it. If I wasn't also using the table for beer brewing, 4040 would be good enough.
Anntoin, I would love an opportunity to discuss your project. Check out or website/store at flexmation.com/
Milian, The original post of this was on 4-20-14. What prompted you to refresh it? Do you intend to try again? Were you able to re-establish the colony? In this video, I see extremes that caused the demise, and opposite extremes as recovery efforts. Rather than knocking your efforts, I'll just offer that constructive instruction is out there. In the comments, you mention you have stopped your efforts at vermicomposting. Success could be within your grasp with instruction- at NO expense. Interested?
Wayne, it's fascinating how this video I posted almost 4 years ago is still being viewed and commented on 4 years later. The big picture goal was to create an as complete as possible indoor farming ecosystem without using any chemicals. The goal of vermicomposting was to provide a good, nutrient dense fertilizer that was actually good for the soil. The problem I had was a matter of scale and time committed to my indoor farm. I had the space of 1 single bed to do all this, in an environment that got as hot as 40C in the summer. When I have time, space, and decent enough funding, I'll definitely do this all again, but as it stand right now, I retired the vermicompost and my little garden.
I love what you did and also want to build one for myself, can you provide more detail on design and implementation. thanks for the great work
bm830810 sure, what do you wanna know?
I don't know how much to ask is too much so here are some ideas and questions that I think haven't been addressed properly on the net. 1. different types of profiles and what are each useful for and how can you choose proper profile for your work (example why you chose this type of profile and how you chose the width) 2. different kind of joints and connections, and what type of joints you used and why 3. a short overview of how you model your workbench in sketchup and links to useful models and information (also there is seems to be a program called frame designer which by user reports is much easier to use) 4. a video of the assembly process maybe for your next workbench/project ;)
well, the honest answer is I did plenty of research on the Internet to really figure out the design of the workbench and which types of aluminium profile to use. Using 8080 profile seemed like a bit overkill, but after seeing the result, I absolutely would go for it again. a site that I found to be really helpful was 8020.net. They have a lot of info on the different types of connectors and why you should use one type over another. You can download my sketch up file here drive.google.com/file/d/1uS9JaehPiBeVvxoJ2LMbZQlOdZ9y6bwr/view?usp=sharing I learned to use sketch up through designing this table.
thanks a lot, I hope your channel grows and get the attention it deserves, maybe add the links to description so others can find it more easily
Thanks for the advice, still trying to figure it all out
When it looks like vermacompost. Harvest. New bedding, watch TH-cam. Smiles. It's a simple thing. They need new home / environment about every month or so. Yep it's a learning / experience curve. I've almost killed many. When the base even begins to smell. Change it.
Hal Steward thanks for the tips, I'll be sure to do better the next time I try again
Some of those worms look just fine. Ah, I see you saved them and the system.
Oh man... I had an old pot in which I just put some kitchen waste every now and then,( sometimes once in months) water it whenever I water plants(sometimes not.andsometimes flood them)... I never put worms in the pot, not even initially... I don't know how but they came from nowhere. I also have a number of very small snails in there (2-3 milimiters). I hardly take care of them but they both are growing from the past few years. Ants are there too. The max I do is take out dark brown compost once a year. The pot is out under the sun in summers ( about 40°C) and winters (5°C).they're out in rains too. Still no idea why yours died and why mine are still alive.
Next time add air holes, no pesticides, feed less, and more bedding. They will be able to eat the bedding and less food scraps. Things like this happen so learn from this mistake and move on. 😎
+AJwears CATshirts yeah, all good points, I may build a new setup in a couple of years
Spoons and chopsticks? I can't believe it. Use your hands man!
*shrug* I'm still a city boy, plus I work faster with chopsticks
Maybe he's a Tepanyaki chef.
How environmental of you
are your worms still alive
Jn. Yn. No, I had limited space and had to choose between worms and brewing beer....the worms lost out
Sorry bro...
Lol the earthworm be like PARADISE!
Way too wet. It should never have any liquid in the bin I don't care what others say. I have five Rubbermaid type tubs with only small holes in the bottom and no lids on. I have always had to add water. I have never had a drop of liquid come out of any of my bins. Whether you have a lot of worms or not you should lay a layer of newspaper or cardboard on the bottom. If in fact you put poison on your cabbage it may have killed them but I believe your bin just went anaerobic from too much liquid. When it gets sour they begin to die. I hate to see that. Hope you got it going again.
Catherine Fredericks I stopped about 2 years ago, became too hard for the small amount of space I had in the house. Would be different if I had a roof or balcony tho
I think you put way too much food
Eric Nguyen for the box size, yeah I did
Love the worm bin updates! Keep up the good work :)
