Supreme Court should be allowed to remain independent of Government.

The collegium system is a curse on Judicial appointments. It is non-transparent ;it is a narrowly operated system and shuts out brilliant and qualified citizens from entering judicial service. It is clear case of nepotism with no checks as the Supreme Court claims it is law of the land. This system must be thrown out by the Parliament with no scope for interpretation by a bunch of present judges. Open the appointments to well qualified citizens with whatever length of experience in the judicial system is prescribed and put the applicants to strict tests and interviews and make the selection and pay them all welleven beyond what the judges get. The present judges could be given a choice to quit on substantial retirement benefits andalso tell them that the post of CJI will not be seniority based any more.

Kapil Sibal is too good to offer litany of praise to CJI Chandrachud. The CJI has in fact failed India and failed the constitution. These are revealed only through his last day as CJI of Supreme Court. Unfortunate
