A couple of games in the game Army of Ruin, have pretty good gameplay and are a lot like some iPhone games I've played before, very similar to the current trend going around of just killing things to gain experience drops and then power-ups. I really tried killing those guards at the start of the game, ill probably try again on a new save if that's a thing and see if I can after learning the game a bit more :), maybe there's another secret there with the guards, or maybe I'm just overthinking it too much bc of other games lol.
As of what i know i would recommend going sword or axe weapon class
