It was not overclocked in this video. I don't play the game anymore at the moment, but be sure to not have supersample antialiasing turned on as well as ultra shadows. Also I think I lowered the amount of players which are shown on screen in same time, because this eats CPU resources a lot. It's true that for some reason, I forgot show game settings there, shame on me.

Huseyn Mammedov Hey. I believe you can overclock the CPU by 100mhz using Intel XTU program, however I don't think it's needed. Overclocking your Gpu provides you with more performance boost.

Hey, I've pretty much learnt to live with it. Got it for more than 2 years already, and whatever I do, my first 2 cores always reach 90+ degrees, the other two are at 83-87°C max. So, I was unlucky with the silicon lottery. I underclocked it to 31x when 4 cores are active for specific games, but no matter, if the cpu sits on 3.4ghz or 3.1ghz it always reaches 94-95°C on those first 2 cores. There's not much you can do, if you have similar chip. You shouldn't worry however, your CPU should be fine even in these conditions. Anyway, I plan to return to desktop at the end of this year, most likely.

sm4sh3d Ye, seems we and many others got one of the worst binned chips. However, it's not just about the cpu, it's about the fact that Asus is going primary for silent fans over low temperatures. I understand their choice, because people don't like noisy fans in general, however other people would prefer to have an option to speed up fans in order to reach lower temps. They made such option in their newer models, however their cooling system as a whole is so obsolete that it just simply can't compete with cooling MSI provides for its top models at the moment when it comes to internal hardware temp(if you choose higher fan curve on top Msi models, your Cpu sits at around 70°C and Gpu even less). Asus should learn and improve in this regard. Anyway, I bought the laptop because I used to move a lot from house to flat and so and I didn't know if I'll have to travel in my new work often or no. However since I see that I'm not really traveling that much in my work as of now, I plan to invest into desktop later. For now I will just wait and see how the fight between AMD and Nvidia will continue after Vega comes out.

I dunno about MSI, unless you spend $5K on their Titan with SLI and extreme unnecessary bullshit, I see they have the same problems. The MSI GT62VR with GTX 1070 is so bad even the GPU throttles at high loads. Didn't read good stuff about Razer and Sager has the same issue. Not making this a budget issue, but I don't need and don't want SLI systems and 5K seems too much when half of that does all I need. Don't need a 4K screen as well on 17 or 19 inches, that's just a waste of horsepower. I dunno, guess I just to accept that 90+ degrees is ok and the system will hold up at least 3-4 years, before I change it.

Ye, I saw it some time ago. However, I have a non G-Sync GPU which was upgraded to support G-Sync by the Asus upgrade program. Need to ask Prema which mod should I use in order for it to work properly.

GPU goes to 1262mhz with locked vbios without issues indeed, however I wouldn't call that +800mhz on memory stable since you are getting green/blue artifacts all over the place. Try to run Firestrike benchmark and you will see, if you pass. Anyway, I am waiting for thermal pads to arrive, then will repaste by using them, and in case I get good temps on GPU, I will unlock vbios and go for 1350-1400mhz on core, to see how it goes.

Ye, you have got nice temps there indeed. The cooling mod seems to be effective, though you have different processor, I have 4860hq which generally runs a bit warmer but still, if the temp is under 95°C, there is no throttling, so there is no difference in performance if you run at 90°C or 75°C, but it certainly feels better to have cooler temps anyway :).

Base clock doesn't matter since you are utilizing turbo boost in games/applications what is 3.4ghz when all 4 cores active. Your custom made cooling might be better indeed, however, visually not really atractive like other mods here, but since its effective, its all that matters. Mine doesn't go down to 2.4ghz, where do you have that information from ? Both 4720/4860 go to 3.4Ghz when all 4 cores are active up to 95-96°C then they start throttling down, or if they reach power limit, what happens in stress tests like Prime95, you can see it for yourself since your cpu was at baseclock during the Prime95 stress test. However, in games there is no throttling, therefore performance is the same. Just chill up and be happy with your laptop :).

Your CPU temp in Crysis 3 is 80°C after few mins at 40-45fps what is not something impressive with the custom bottom. Choose medium settings, turn off v-sync and check your cpu temps again. Your DOOM video is capped at 75fps so its obvious your CPU won't reach high temps since GPU is not 100% utilized like in your Crysis video. Best would be to turn on Prime 95 small ftt benchmark combined with Furmark. Run them for 15-20min together and then check temps. These should be the max temps you will get. The mod you did to your laptop is certainly impressive and helpful for GPU without a doubt so good work on that. My GPU temps are higher since I didn't repaste it for a long time, but actually gonna do it tomorrow so will see the difference. Cheers.

You are most likely playing with directX 12 enabled. I've been playing on win 8.1 back then. Also, this part of the game is not really that intensive on your GPU so you get more fps than let's say in the soviet area or later areas in the game. FPS drops in these areas to lower 40 on my laptop as well.

I'm also on Win 8.1 DirectX11 and yes, temps are ok, and nothing is throttling. Btw this error disappeared by itself and i get good frame rates now. The problem i had before is lowered fps after 15-20 mins of gameplay. As i said before, no hot temeperatures and no reduction in any frequencies. It all stopped after i tried overclocking graphics card, and then set all frequencies back to original settings. Sometimes you never know, what helped and why :D Anyway now it's fine. Strange, though....

Hey, how much fps are you getting ? Be sure to have MSAA antialiasing set to x2 max not more because it will reduce your fps a lot, if you set it to higher number.

Heya, the laptop is great. Didn't have any major issues, only thing that worried me, were the CPU temps, however, this partical chip is simply running hot and I've got used to it. There is no performance drop caused by the CPU temp so it's all good.

Heya, depends from which angle are you looking at it. If you know how to do it, it's safe. Anyway, overclocking a GPU, indeed, shortens its lifetime, however, we are talking about reducing the lifetime of modern GPUs from like 10years to 9 or 8.5 years. Question is, if you are even planning to keep the laptop for such long time. On the other hand, if you plan to unlock vbios and overvolt + overclock the GPU even more, then the lifespan can be reduced to like 5-6 years but still it should not be problem. Need to remember that GPU is different, however, the most important thing is to watch, if your GPU is not malfunctioning somehow (GPU driver crash / some random colorized pixels on monitor and such) and also need to watch your GPU temperatures. They should be always under 88°C in all cases. Regards.

Heya, you can download MSI Afterburner program which let you OC your GPU. Maximum you can get with stock vbios is +135Mhz on core and +1000(set +500mhz, its doubled) on memory.

Yes, you can use it and it really helps to get few more fps in your games. Yes, I've tried quite few of them, but in the end, I've stayed with the original vanilla lightning. It adds the right atmosphere to the game in my opinion.

+Lee Henderson (sXeInugami) Thanks a lot mate. The MSI laptop is definitely faster, however, users report high GPU temps which cause the GPU to downclock therefore reducing its performance. If you could, stress test the laptop as soon as you get it, to see what GPU temps are you getting, so in case you have got the "warmer" model, you can return it and get another and/or get a free repaste from your retailer. Another choice is to wait a month or two if Nvidia annouces new pascal GPUs which should be way faster than the current Maxwell based GPUs. Regards

+BoXiS oh I definitely consider having the Arctic silver thermal paste in there actually, temps worried me as well, I figured it would take a longer time for nVidia to release something like that, plus they'll probably be pretty expensive, after all 980 laptops are still being released, who's to say the 980 SLI isn't next for laptops instead?

+Lee Henderson (sXeInugami) Ye, there is already MSI GT80S 6QF Titan which has two 980's in SLI, however, I don't like it at all, since it is too expensive, GPU/CPU is overheating and they give just 330W adapter with it. Asus teases new laptop with new gpu (pascal 1080m most likely) which is faster than Titan X in 3D mark 11 benchmark. It should be revealed at Computex on May 31 - June 1, 2016.

I couldn't disable v-sync in this beta, so GPU was not fully utilized(therefore not reaching 99% usage). It would reach around 70fps in the beta, if I could disable v-sync.

+barack obama Since the game is not really CPU bound you should be getting 60 fps all the time. Which drivers are you using ? Try to use 362.00, if possible. Also you can check with MSI Afterburner, if your GPU is not downclocking itself in the game.

+Kiano Uy (Moop Stark) It does not make it any louder. The fan speed depends on your CPU/GPU actual temp. Overclocking GPU will increase its temp by like 2-3°C but that will not make a difference in the speed of GPU fan. You can check your how loud your laptop can be by using prime95 small fft stress test combined with furmark, but it's not needed. Regards.

Heya, I have tried using one but it doesn't help with this kind of a laptop, because it has no holes at the bottom and the cover is thick, so, if you have fan here, it does absolutely nothing.

+ThatGuy34 Default overclocking is easy. Just download a MSI Afterburner program and you see just 2 sliders there which you can move - Core Clock/Memory Clock. Adjust these two settings as you prefer (I am using +74 Core clock +150 Memory Clock on daily basis, maximum which you can get with stock vbios is +135 on Core and around +450/500 on memory, you can use these settings, your temps on GPU should be good still). After adjusting the slider click on apply and you are good to go. Be sure that you have checked "Apply overclocking at system startup" and you don't need to open the program anymore, just if you want to adjust the overlock. You can also make more profiles with different clocks and save them as profile 1-5. Then, if you click on the particular profile it will auto-load the overclock for you, but this is not needed.

+Rivayne Heya. Overclocking settings are locked in Bios so it is not possible from there. However, you can download Intel XTU program and raise the multiplier when 1-4 cores are active by 100-200Mhz (depends on how much you can raise the bar, I can set +200Mhz on my cpu but yours may vary). As for GPU you can easily overclock it in MSI Afterburner program. Just move 2 sliders there (GPU Clock/GPU memory clock). Cheers.

I've been thinking about upgrading to gsync for a while by trading in the laptop and getting a gsync one. Thank god i don't have to do that. Just a question, do you factory reset when you turn the laptop in? That's what i've been doing and i'm wondering if it's necessary or not.
