Bird Watching around Cairns, Australia
Join me on a tropical bird watching tour through Cairns, Australia! I'll take you to my favourite birdwatching spots where we'll encounter a wide variety of new and familiar bird species (with a twist).
In the search for birds, we'll explore: a beach, gardens, a wetland, an island and a rainforest.
Whether you’re a seasoned birdwatcher or just starting out, there’s something for everyone.
Some birds you'll see: kingfishers, fairywrens, butcherbirds, kookaburras, and many more!
Tip: you'll get a more immersive experience (bird calls) by listening with headphones. This video is available in 4K.

Honey eaters too but all getting plowed down for houses. Can still walk around the streets and see a superb fairy Wren on every flowering tree though. As well as a green honey eater looking fellows but too quick to photograph and ID.

    Surprised you never saw a crested pigeon, when we were kids we always called them Topknots and we get a lot in the suburbs (though not as many as I used to see in Eyre Peninsula where I grew up.) You also see Sulphur Crested cockies a lot, they love to gnaw at young pine cones. Or maybe those two species are too ubiquitous to feature?

    • @birdwatchingse-qld2253
      @birdwatchingse-qld2253 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I saw a few Sulphur-crested and Crested Pigeons on the trip, but they were too far away to get decent footage of them. I think they stopped calling Ocyphaps lophotes the "Topknot Pigeon" because that common name was already claimed by Lopholaimus antarcticus. My non-birder friends call the Cresteds the "Punk Pigeon" 😂

      Thanks Kirri. I use a Nikon P950, it's a bridge camera (x83 optical zoom). It doesn't have the incredible quality or focusing features of the bulkier SLR/mirrorless cameras + lens, but it's easy to carry around for long periods of time. There's also the Nikon P1000, which has even further zoom, but that is heavier and any additional gain is barely usable due to atmospheric distortion and minor camera shake. PS: I don't get commission from Nikon (I should, lol), it's just a great camera for birding. All the best with your photography :-)
