Making pool (billiard) ball shift knobs for Jeeps (pt1)
In this series, we are going to go through the full process of how we make our pool (billiard) ball shifters, which many of our fans have on their 5 speed Jeep XJs and TJs. This vid we go through how we mark them for drilling and keep everything lined up. Part 2 will be machining, final marking, and paint. Hope to see you back for the next one. If anyone has a source out there for bulk USA made pool balls... please let us know. Still looking to make these a viable run

    Curious how you wired the JK's gauge cluster to power-up on the bench. I'm guessing PINs 1, 6 for +12V DC of the C1 terminal and the bottom 4 of that to ground? And does Pin 5 need to get +12V DC as well so the cluster powers on?

    • @Azzysdesignworks
      @Azzysdesignworks 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you are looking at the back of the cluster, first connector on the left, pins 5-6 get 12v+, center pins on the bottom row get ground.

      @@Azzysdesignworks Thanks! Do you wind up connecting directly to the pins with leads, or did you build your own harness? Finding matching plugs of the right type is a hassle (so far).

      Different methods I've seen people note where their gauges sit at idle, so you can tell after install and setting the needles that they are running as they should be. More needed on the XJ and TJ than the stepper motor gauges. Some of this was also made before decent cell phones were available, and we also get a lot of older guys with bad eyesight upgrading.

      2007-2012 came without the chrome rings, at least on most models. The cluster housing itself is the same, but those bezels and the clear plastic cover are slightly different. If you wanted to remove the chrome, those do seperate, but it might be easier to use something like plasti-dip on them instead.

      We have one designed and made that fits the 242 + 4.0 ZJ, and are testing it with a few V8s. The biggest delay is getting parts made, our adjustment rod manufacture is behind, and rods we hoped to receive a month ago are just shipping this week.

      @Azzysdesignworks I was wondering, is there something fundamentally different about the 249? Or just different lengths? I don't mind buying an adapter and trying to modify it, or even making my own, as long as I'm not going to break my t-case from messing around 😅

    • @Azzysdesignworks
      @Azzysdesignworks 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Drivin_Sideways It all comes down to the movement of the input shaft on the tcase. We just were not able to work out a good solution for that case, and did not see the market in trying to make a more complicated one for a case that we did not feel was as popular for offroad applications.

      Not any longer. The relationship between the frame and the tub (where the lever is mounted) changes too much depending on a variety of factors. So what is a n easy setup for some will be hours of adjusting, even for the same model year and ride height. We recommend going with a good reputation cable setup for those (like Novak), if the linkage kit from Teraflex is no longer available.

    I own european 2.5 diesel XJ with manual AX-15 and NP231J t-case...today I lost half a day trying to figure out how to install it...what ever I tried I couldn't do it properly...there is simply not enough space between upper lever and bottom shaft that's coming out of t-case. I'm sure I did everything right, checked 100 times, I'm sure I set up the shifting handle inside the vehicle in the same position as t-case shaft but the golden link is too long (max shortened) I dislocated the blue part following your instruction by puncturing the middle pin and then I managed to install it somehow but now I don't have enough movement to engage the 4L...everything works fine, first three positions shift nice but can't reach the last one :S Looking from inside the car, when the shifting handle is down in 2H t-case is also in 2H, I pull it once and it engages 4H normally (it shows the AWD light), next position should be N, but the handle engages N in last position where 4L should be :\ Did anyone have similar experience?

    It’s this kind of care for what you do that got you a sale. I bought a knockoff on Amazon (didn’t know the history), had this very issue with my 5 speed manual, and found your videos explaining the product and where I was going wrong. I just ordered one from your site (under the same name as this comment, so you’ll see I’m not joking) and will be returning that other junk off brand later this week. Even if that other one would work, I’d rather support locally, and with someone that actually stands by what they make. Thanks for your dedication to your product! I do have a question though, and maybe this only pertained to my junky one, but I noticed that the part of the linkage with the three holes hits the housing of the transfer case, and is super snug to where it feels like it could pop out of 2H. Is this normal?

    • @Azzysdesignworks
      @Azzysdesignworks ปีที่แล้ว

      Mike, I remember chatting. thank you for this, I really do appreciate it. On the question of the lower plate : over the years we've had a few customers mention it touched. We think this is just due to variations in the casting of the transfer case bodies. The real indexing happens with the detent (see our video on cleaning that here th-cam.com/video/IoaF88uJ4ak/w-d-xo.html ) and you will feel this at the case when adjusting / installing. If it is still touching and not going into gear, let us know. -Bryan

      Yes, either kit will work with a dropped transmember. In our experience, running one of those puts stresses on the front driveshaft, and contributes to vibrations at the case itself. Still amazes me this was the actual successor to the XJ, but they only sold it with Cherokee badge outside of US and Canada. Lol. But hey, those nice rear disc brakes being drop in fit for xj is awesome. :)

      Look at you being all reasonable in your comments. Most of our comments are just me responding to me in an endless circle of self-flagellation.

    You know what this needs? More cowbell. That reference was still a thing in 2008, so shut up.

      We all know some executive green-lit this, and they were on the books for getting their money's worth with a buffalo rental; I foresee other uploads because of this.

      They probably had the same budget as "Birdemic".

    I drink, but I don't have a YJ. I do enjoy my self deprivation owning a JK and a TJ.

    Bought STOCK 1999 Cherokee off 88yr old man who NEVER used 4wd! I'm near 60- read intructions & crawled under it with few OPENend wrenchs & saws -all. 38 min. later.... DONE! GREAT product!
