Why did you stop posting videos?
I still have problems I should know better already.
As a person long in the photo game (director of photography in publishing in NYC and then a commercial shooter since 2000) I'd like to give my idea of what editorial means or used to mean actually. Editorial meant shooting for a magazine. Usually the photographer was given more free reign creatively (and less fee) than shooting for a commercial client. Often it would be you and the crew but not uncommon for no magazine staff to be along. When I was a director of photography I'd hire a photographer, give him or her the shoot outline or shape of the job and then just pray and hope that when I opened the box of prints it would be a spectacular shoot. If the subject of a shoot was a celebrity then staff would go but the shoot style was usually decided before hand by input from the photographer and discussions between me and the creative director and the photographer. Covers would always have staff on hand. When I first began shooting I did a ton of magazine work but as magazines faded away I turned to shooting almost exclusively commercial. I think "editorial" is usually the way to think when creating your portfolio or viewpoint but it certainly won't pay the bills. The goal is to find clients that like your editorial work and then hire you for commercial...
Getting endorsed by Chloe Kardashian is huge.....Thats very lucky
Great video. You mentioned licensing your photo(s). Would like to know more on what is involved and what is needed in this business transaction. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge.
How do you go about licensing? I really don't want to mess up
Yep. I bet ocean gate is really glad they didn't hire the most skilled.
I am so glad that you clarified on this! Do you mind me asking what made you get into editorial photography?
Me: *robs bank* The guy: “keep going” Me *opens vault* Gets shot*
No I'm not
You’re awesome 🫂
are you sure
I’m sure ❤
I love how badly she did in the beginning but still kept going. It makes starting a business more approachable because most people don't take off immediately without making any mistakes.
solid advice. Spot on. But am curious if you have any sample photography contract forms that you could share or templates that you endorse? I have some but always looking for something more simple, yet very inclusive.. Thanks
Wow, such inspiration, we want to start a swimwear brand
Love the transparency
This is so inspiring, real and genuine!
That’s honestly pretty impressive! Great example Kevin.
Thanks, Tom!
Bruh I was like "graphics thies days"

Hahaha we’re not too far from not being able to tell
Jk it’s a real cat. 🐈
I too have just started to shoot video with my GFX100. The bottom line is that a person can create truly beautiful video with it. It is not a good tool for all situations. But if you have a controlled situation such as a demonstration video or advertisment, then it works very well. It is not suited to 'run and gun' or highly dynamic situations where AF is critical. The great number of video settings matter a lot. I have been shooting Hlog so far with in camera recording. Yes, a variable ND filter is a must so as to keep the frame rate and exposure correct. I have recently shot with the Zeiss Milvus 50mm and 85mm F1.4 lenses. Those lenses coupled with the medium format sensor create wonderful, beautiful video. They also allow for very precise manual focus which is important when using the lenses wide open. There are many lenses out there with an aperture of F2 and less. The number of Fuji GF lenses are kind of lacking in this regard.
Brother……we gotta talk.
Thanks for sharing your journey! I wanna start a swimwear brand too so it’s helpful seeing other people’s journeys and mistakes or things they’ve learned along the way. Appreciate it!!
All the best to you!
Thank you, very beneficial
Glad it was helpful, thanks for watching!
I am an aspiring Editorial Photographer, but I do not own a camera at the moment. I plan to save for a good if not best camera I can purchase. What do you guys think should I buy? What kind or brand of camera? I am a freshman college student and the camera price here in my country is quite costly. Need your tips about this.
what kind on lenses do you use for the photos you show on this video?
Thank you for the insights king 😍
Happy to help, my friend!
Thank you! I’m currently watching this before a test shoot. I’ve recently been using a speed lite and I’m lovin it. I’m currently building my portfolio. I want to come back to this video a year in and see how I’m doing.. thank you
So happy to hear this was helpful for you, Alex! Hope your test shoot went well.
if i don't put works on social media, where should i put them? send them to the editors?
Yes! If you're not on social media, the best way to get your work out there is to seek out editors and share your portfolio of work with them.
Umm website lol duh, Damn well u have social media...
It is hard to find anything on You Tube about editorial photography. Thanks for being here. I want to see more videos on editorial photography.
Thanks for watching, Lonnie. I'm glad you like the content! More on the way, stay tuned!
thank you for the tips Kevin!
Glad you found it helpful, Joe!
Nice Video Kevin :)
Can I ask roughly how much a license was worth?Ball park?
It was a few hundred dollars for a one-year license for social media use only. Two images total.
I’m not huge on college education. Though I love to tell stories, do you think college education is preferred by magazines? Or can I get by with experience? Thanks!
You definitely don't need a college education to tell stories. Don't let it stop you!
Great video and definitely useful tips. Some feedback here: I felt distracted by your voice in stereo, panning from one side to the other. Anyways, cool stuff, thanks for sharing your experience! =P
Glad you enjoyed, Daniel! And thank you for the feedback. Still trying to figure out the best audio setup to use. Any suggestions on how to keep the sound balanced?
@@kevintitus I would go with something simple like a Røde VideoMic Pro or similar with a boom kit, as close to your face as possible. As an alternative I would try mixing both stereo channels into one to have a more balanced MONO feeling, with a bit of compression to make it more stable it should be good enough. Cheers! =)
Does XT2 give the same results too?
I love amazon customer service too. i have been buying things from them over 10 years and always deliver exceptional service
Yup got me a 7' umbrella
Such a versatile and affordable modifier
Me too .... love that thing
@@jasonmedas603 I do too until I'm in a small space or windy day
Yeah .... haven't used mine in a while... I wanna get an ad600 to fully use it
@@jasonmedas603 i use it with the ad600. Thats a ton of light my friend even at low power
You have really great content! Perfect for me at this stage in my career. I hope you are able to keep posting, I really find it helpful!
That makes me really happy to hear! I've kind of fallen off my TH-cam game but I plan on creating more videos. Definitely check out my Facebook group too: facebook.com/groups/529340817833064
this is insightful
Glad you found it helpful!
Great video bro well explained
Thank you for watching! So glad it was helpful.
This looks great. Awesome work! I'm loving my Komodo so far as well. Quick question. Did you use autofocus for the gimbal in shots, or some sort of follow? If auto, what lens are you using?
Thank you! So I didn't shoot the video, but I do remember that my friend did use autofocus when he was shooting. I can't remember which lens they were using though.
Image quality murders anything under $15k
This camera seems to be making quite the stir.
with gimbal? wich model?
Original Ronin
Bro when did you get this?
I didn’t! My friend Ben owns one. :)
i am new to cinema cameras, this is absolutely great. Can i ask what lens you paired with the komodo?
Just from the looks of it, the Sigma 18-35. Thats just a guess though...
@@benfolsom361 I think you're right, but I wasn't the one that shot it so I'm not sure.
Great footage man, transitions were on point and the music paired well with these shots. 👌🏾
Thanks, Tim! I actually didn't edit the footage, but I agree Ben did a great job with the shot selection and music.
Well done and great pics!
Thank you, Randy!
Great advice Kevin! Thank you man!
Thanks for watching, Mark!
Great video Kevin! Would you recommend price anchoring for a test shoot with a “new face” from an agency? This is my first time contacting this local modeling agency so I’m just curious since you said this doesn’t apply to every shoot
What's up, Joseph! Nice to see you here, man. I think price anchoring is a great idea with model tests. When you contact modeling agencies, I would make sure to mention what your testing rate is but then offer to do one or two unpaid tests to get your foot in the door. Keep in mind that once you build a solid portfolio of model test work, you probably won't have to do any unpaid tests anymore, but offering one or two free shoots is okay if you're just getting into that world.
@@kevintitus Thanks for the response, Kevin! I'll definitely keep this information in mind moving forward. Great video once again 👏🏽
Thanks for breaking it down👊🏾👊🏾
Thanks for watching, Maurice
